Huge district win for the Cards. They will finish in 2nd place in the district. This will give them a home game to start the playoffs.

[h=1]Cards reclaim jug, get home playoff game[/h]

Clark (4-5, 2-1 district) won its second straight district game and will host a home playoff game at Cardinal Stadium on Nov. 6. The Cards close the regular-season against Bourbon County Friday night at Cardinal Stadium.

In addition to a runner-up finish in the district, Clark claimed the “Battle of the Bridge” and took possession of the milk jug trophy.

Similar to last year’s contest, which went wire-to-wire and ended with a field goal in the closing seconds to give the Indians a 32-30 win, the first three quarters were tight, with Central clinging to a 27-26 lead.

But the momentum shifted in Clark’s favor in the final quarter. The Cards scored three touchdowns in the fourth quarter, including two in final three minutes to pull away from the Indians down the stretch. Will Somersall’s 31-yard interception return for a touchdown with 2:03 remaining sealed the deal for the hosts.

“I can’t say enough about the win,” Clark coach Mike Riddle said. “I can’t say enough about the defense, the heart of the team. I went in there and challenged them at halftime to play with emotion, passion and technique. They did it. This is a major turning point in this program.”

Somersall had nine tackles, a sack and a tackle for a loss for the Cardinals. On the offensive end, senior Luke Sharrock threw for 200 yards, completing 20-of-32 passes and two touchdowns. Sharrock also rushed for two more scores and led Clark with 114 yards rushing.

“This is a different program now,” Sharrock said. “We have a different mind set and we weren’t going to let this game slip away. I give all the glory to God."

Malachi Israel had eight catches for 73 yards and two touchdowns for the Cards. Korrion Crier rushed for 114 yards and quarterback Zach Hardin completed 15-of-28 passes for 249 yards and four touchdowns for the Indians.
