What a crazy ending...

 

Two goals were scored 30 seconds apart in stoppage time of the second half, and Jenna Wolfe’s ended up being the game winner.

 

Senior outside midfielder Lauren Nemeroff figured in all of her team’s goals, as she netted a pair and set up two others as Dixie Heights edged Simon Kenton, 4-3 on Wednesday.

 

Most importantly, she set up Wolfe’s game winner with a minute left in extra time.

 

The Colonels led, 3-2 at the end of regulation, but in stoppage time, the Pioneers tied it when sophomore Mallory Valentine converted a penalty kick assessed after a hand ball.

 

Just 30 seconds later, Nemeroff fed Wolfe on a break, and Wolfe fired the winning shot into the bottom right portion of the net.

 

Junior center midfielder Madi Critcher added a pair of assists for Dixie Heights.

 

Nemeroff has five goals and five assists in two games this season.

Last night's game was one of the best I have seen at the HS level. Both teams battled until the final whistle.

 

That was my first time seeing SK and #10 (Jill?) is definitely a good one. Great ball control and vision.

 

Nemo played a great game for Dixie, as did Madi Critcher, Sami Josselyn and a host of others. Ellis McCarthy made some terrific saves in goal and Sims made some terrific runs as an outside mid, including the one that led to her goal.

 

As for the "stoppage time" aspect. I'm well aware that official time is kept on the field but I think it would be a benefit to all if the SK clock operator stopped the clock when the ref signals for it. Nobody really had a clue at the end of the halves how much time was left as it was a 3-5 minute differential between the scoreboard stopping under a minute and the actual final whistle. Typically at most high school games when the clock is stopped under a minute and the "official time is kept on the field" announcement is made, there is only a minute to a minute and a half of play left. Not the case last night with the continuous clock.
