Prep softball: GRC defeats Nicholas County 10-0 in six innings to reach 10th Region finals.

[h=1]Prep Softball: Lady Cards blank Nicholas for spot in 10th Region finals[/h]TAYLOR MILL — The George Rogers Clark High School girls softball team is one step away from the school’s first 10th Region championship in four years following a 10-0 shutout of Nicholas County in six innings Tuesday at Covington Scott High School.

 

In the opener, Clark made Nicholas County play catch up after crossing the plate with five runs in the first inning, setting the tone for the shutout. Kolbi Mitchell highlighted the inning with a two-run double. The Lady Cards forced the 10-run rule with a three-run outburst in the sixth inning.

 

Sydney Anderson paced Clark’s offense with a pair of hits and drove in three runs. Mitchell collected a pair of RBIs. One of Anderson’s hits was a triple. Megan Terrell also had a three-bagger, while Jenna Edwards, Skye Skinner, Melissa Hall, Emily Harrison and Madison Norton each had a hit for the Lady Cards.

 

In addition to the team’s nine hits, pitcher Jenna Edwards got a hand from Clark’s defense. Norton made three clutch catches in center field, while the Lady Cards also turned a 6-4-3 double play to end the sixth inning.

 

Edwards went the distance in the pitcher’s circle and collected four strikeouts. Edwards scatted five hits and allowed just one runner past second base. Edwards walked one batter and had a hit batsman in the complete-game outing.
