Player of the Week

Quentin Snider, Ballard

Only one player of the week this week and that's because he deserves the spotlight to himself here. Snider scored 30 points in Ballard's 94-72 victory over rival Eastern on Saturday night. The tally put the University of Louisville signee at 2,280 career points, enough to take over first place in the Bruins' career scoring list. He passed previous leading scorer, Allan Houston, who had 2,276 points in his time at Ballard. Given the staggering talent that's come through Ballard over the schools more than 40-year history, topping that list is a great achievement. He can be expected to extend that record by a fair margin as Ballard finishes out the season and heads toward the Seventh Region Tournament.

Games of the Week

Friday, February 14

Eastern at Waggener, 7:30 pm

The Wildcats proved they belong in conversation with teams chasing Ballard and Trinity in the Seventh with their win over DuPont Manual last week. Should they come out of Friday with a win, they could genuinely be considered the third-best team in the region. For the Eagles, they've lost two in a row after winning 8 of 9 after Christmas until the beginning of February. The Eagles look to get back on track and continue their resurgence in the Seventh.

Lafayette at Trinity, 7:30 pm

A rematch of a game that took place in the first round of the King of the Bluegrass in December -- a game the Shamrocks won 47-43 -- both teams enter this week coming off a close loss but still playing well overall. The Shamrocks got into a deep hole in the first half but battled back before ultimately falling to Scott Counting (in a game coincidentally hosted at Lafayette). The Generals lost an 81-79 heartbreaker in the same event to local rival Lexington Catholic. Each team is still very well regarded and planted firmly in any statewide list of the top 10 teams.
