I wanted to take a second and as a parent show appreciation for Tates Creek Head coach Mike Harmon and his staff. Coaches out in tireless work that is mostly unseen and misunderstood. I think criticism and armchair quarterbacking from us as parents comes with the territory, but rarely do they get to hear the other side.

 

I've gotten to know Coach Harmon over the last 7 years of being around the program with my son through middle school all the way till now and I don't know of many coaches that operate with as much integrity and fairness as he does. People can question calls, plays or whatever, but cannot say that he doesn't treat his athletes with fairness and that he doesn't do everything he can for them on the recruiting front. And will never ask for recognition, or any type of acknowledgement.

 

There are always situations that arise, I have had my own, but I can honestly say, nothing he ever did didn't at least have my sons best interests at the heart of the issue. Coach is of the variety of coach that would rather lose with class and integrity, then to compromise his beliefs or what's in the true best interest of the athlete. He won't let a disciplined player play, or turn a blind eye on grades, or any other similar scenario. And for all of this, my son is a better player, and even more importantly, he is a better young man because of his time with Coach Harmon and his staff.
