Week Three is now finished, and the big question is — do we know any more about our teams in the Southeastern Six?

I say yes.

Corbin remained unbeaten at 5-0 by blitzing South Laurel, 53-0, on the road. This is the same Cardinal team that dropped a 36-7 decision to Wayne County in Week One.

So what does the 53-point win for Corbin mean?

I’m not sure, but the Redhounds will have this week off to prepare for Week 6’s big match-up with Wayne County.

Bell County picked up a HUGE and convincing win over Knox Central on the road while Harlan County found itself down 36-0 to Johnson Central before losing, 36-14. Whitley County remains winless at 0-5 after falling at home to Clay County.

 

SOUTHEASTERN 6 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Aaron Caldwell, Bell County

 

Caldwell captures his first Player of the Week honors this season by running for 179 yards and three touchdowns during the Bell County Bobcats’ 34-12 win over Knox Central.

 

WEEK FOUR REVIEW

Corbin 53, South Laurel 0

 

The Redhounds won their seventh straight game over South Laurel by rolling up more than 550 yards on offense against an outmatched Cardinal team. Taylor Waddle continued his fantastic season by running for more than 100 yards on the ground while scoring three touchdowns, including a 72-yard run. Teammate Jake Coppock scored two touchdowns in the win, which included a 70-yard punt return that went for a score.

The 53-point blowout win, marked the fourth consecutive Corbin game the running clock has been used.

 

Bell County 34, Knox Central 12

The Bobcats hadn’t lost back-to-back regular season games dating back to the 2005 season and were coming off a loss to Middlesboro for the first time since 1997.

But Bell fans didn’t have to worry, the Bobcats brought their “A” game to Knox Central, and won with ease by 22 points.

The Panthers took an early lead on Bell County after a Jonathan Gist touchdown, but it was all Bobcats after that, as Bell County ran for 309 yards on the ground, including Aaron Caldwell's 179-yard, three touchdown effort and Chase Woolum's 119-yard, two-touchdown performance.

 

Johnson Central 36, Harlan County 14

Harlan County turned the ball over four times in the first half, and Johnson Central made the Black Bears pay, by scoring four touchdowns on the miscues.

The Eagles led 36-0 at halftime, and never looked back, while rushing for 217 yards on the ground, and outgaining Harlan County 297-228 in total offense.

Carson Whitehead led Harlan County with 93 yards rushing while Fred Massey added 81 yards on three carries.

 

Clay County 42, Whitley County 36

In a battle of two 0-4 teams, the Clay County Tigers managed to hold on and pull off a six-point road win against Whitley County. The Colonels are now 0-5 for the first time since 1984, but did have one bright spot with tailback Zack Mills returning from an injury and rush for 186 yards and three touchdowns.

 

Week 5 PREVIEW

Bell County (3-2) at Wayne County (5-0), 7:30 P.M.

The Bobcats will try to continue its dominance against district competition when the Bobcats travel to Wayne County in a District 4 showdown with the Cardinals.

Wayne Mills’ squad has won 31 district games in a row, and whoever wins this game will have the inside track of getting the district’s top seed.

 

Whitley County (0-5) at Knox Central (3-2), 7:30 p.m.

At the beginning of the season, many believed this Week 5 match-up could turn out to be one of the best in the mountains, but both teams enter the game struggling, and needing a win in a bad way. The Colonels are winless at 0-5, and Knox Central is riding a two-game losing streak for the first time since 2009, and the Panthers haven’t lost three straight regular season games since ending the 2005 season with a three-game skid.

 

Harlan County (3-2) at Greenville, Tenn. (4-0), 7:30 p.m.

The Black Bears will have another tough test Friday against one of the top teams in Tennessee. Greenville, Tenn. is ranked 20th in the state, according to MaxPreps, and the Green Devils have outscored their opponents 179-13, which includes a 40-0 win over Morristown-Hamblen West. Harlan County will be trying to avoid losing consecutive games for the first time in program history.

 

Harrison County (2-3) at Williamsburg (2-2), 7:30 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets had Week 4 off, and were able to heal some injuries, which will help them against a Harrison County team that has lost three straight games.

The bye week comes at a good time for the Redhounds, as they’re off to their best start since 2009 at 5-0, and they’ll get to see who comes out on top between Bell County and Wayne County Friday before their Week 6 road match-up against the Cardinals.
