Who let the Dogs out?

 

Dunbar is one states largest schools in enrollment and is home to a lot of Fayette County top athletes. But with constant coaching changes the program has struggled to find stable footing. In January Dunbar hired Paul Rains and Rains seems to have the Dunbar faithful feeling they have been let out of the dog pound. Dunbar had chance to beat Tates Creek in week 1 and has since posted big wins against East Jessamine and Woodford County. The road gets tougher for the Bulldogs, especially when district games hit against Henry Clay, Bryan Station and Scott County. But for now Rains seems to have the unleashed the Bulldogs.

 

Backyard Bowl II

 

Lexington’s two major south side schools play in what could be called Backyard Bowl II since Lexington Catholic and Lafayette already claim the original. The schools geographic districts cover the south and southeast side of Fayette County and the two schools are only a couple of ‘spokes’ apart if you use Lexington’s New Circle Road as a compass. The only thing missing from this great rivalry game is that is not a district game to give some more meaning to the season. It seems KHSAA can somehow create a ‘super district’ in Louisville but can not figure out how to put these two next-door rivals in the same football district in Lexington. Can someone buy KHSAA a map?

 

The BGC ‘Bluegrass Rankings’

 

In trying to cover all the top schools in Fayette County and a little beyond I am providing a run down of how the schools did each week. In terms of ‘ranking’ - its all best guess. No computer, no SoS comparison, just what I feel like. It’s pretty subjective right now. But it will get more objective as the season rolls on. So if you follow Fayette teams and want to debate how schools are ‘ranked’ below – have at it. Now is the time before things get settled on the field. I know there are some Creekers out there. There must be some lurkers following the other schools – jump in.

 

 

1. Scott County (3-0)

 

Beat PRP 63-21.

Elijah Bell – 205 yards on 12 carries, 3 TDs.

4. Lexington Catholic (1-2)

Overall the top Bluegrass area teams were 5 – 4 this week.

Really looking forward to this Tates Creek @ Henry Clay game. Has the makings of a classic. This will be a shoot out
