NKYVC 16 Tsunami competed in the USA Volleyball National Tournament in Dallas, TX. last week. The team competed in the highest division, Open, by qualifying at the Northeast Qualifier in Philadelphia in April. The Open division is the top 32 teams in the country, all of which must qualify at a qualifying tournament in order to be eligible to play at this tournament.

 

The 7th place finish is the highest ever by a team consisting of mainly girls from Northern Kentucky. The team lost four matches over the four day tournament (all four teams that beat them finished in the top 6) and defeated teams from Nebraska, Texas, Iowa, Missouri, and California.

 

The team members are rising sophomores and juniors: Ashley Bush (Ryle Junior/Northwestern Univ), Kay Butler (Ryle Junior) Hannah Colvin (NDA Sophomore), Morgan Hentz (NDA Sophomore), Micaela Stephenson (NDA Junior), Abby Thelen (NDA Junior), Baylee Johnson (Centerville High Junior/Univ of Southern Cal) and Tori Hemsath (Mother McAuley Junior).

 

Morgan Hentz plays "up" on this team and earned All Tournament honors for her spectacular play.

 

This team has qualified Open the last three years (another first for a team comprised of players mainly from No. KY) and is excited about the future.
