Players of the Week

-Kelan Martin (Ballard)

This probably won’t be the last time his name will appear on this list, but Martin had as good a week as player can have. Martin put in the buzzer-beating shot that propelled Ballard to a 74-73 win over Seventh Region rival Central on Tuesday night; that shot gave him the final basket of his 22-point, 18-rebound performance. He followed that up with a 20-point performance in the Bruins’ convincing win over DuPont Manual on Friday. Ballard’s guard play alone would place them among the favorites in the Seventh Region. Martin’s continued excellence is what ultimately makes them a state championship favorite.

-Andrew Steggeman (Collegiate)

Steggeman was rightly named to the Seventh Region All “A” All-Tournament Team and was certainly the star of the tournament as he led the Titans to their second consecutive regional All “A” title. He began the tournament by pouring in 20 points in a semifinal matchup with Whitefield Academy. He followed that up with a 29-point performance in the championship game against Kentucky Country Day. His presence makes this year’s Titans squad a tough matchup for teams in the congested middle of the Seventh Region.

Upcoming Games of Note

All of them.

The Louisville Invitational Tournament tips off at Valley High School in Southwest Jefferson County on Monday. The tournament will feature all 10 of the Seventh Region’s top 10 teams along with 10 of the best squads in the Sixth. This week will be absolutely filled with outstanding matchups thanks to this tournament.

Some small preview for this year's LIT will be up later tonight.

Thanks for the update!
