DuPont Manual 75 Waggener 74

Featured Replies

Close game throughout. At one point in the third quarter, Waggener managed to stretch the lead to 10, but it didn't last through the next possession. Dwayne Sutton hit a free throw with eight-tenths of a second remaining to win it for the Crimsons. With about 15 seconds remaining and the game tied, Waggener was looking for its last shot when freshman guard Brandon Wells lost control of his dribble and turned it over. Sutton was fouled on the other end of the court to set up the game-winner.

Manual was paced by Andy Tillman's 25 points that included two three-pointers. The Crimsons also benefited from a significant size advantage which contributed heavily to their 27 offensive rebounds.

Waggener's starting backcourt trio of Joe Head, Brandon Wells and Semaj Ingram combined for 46 of Waggener's 75 points. Joe Head was especially notable; he found ways to create off the dribble and made open shots when he got them. His 15 points were hard-earned. Waggener was at their best when their press was humming and at times it gave Manual fits.

I knew I was going to go to one of the three games that involved two teams in the seventh region's top 10 playing each other last night. I didn't know that it didn't matter which one I picked, it was going to be a good game. Eastern and Atherton played to three points, Central and St. X went to overtime and Manual and Waggener (the game I picked) ended up a one-point game.
