If there had been 1 more minute in this game, Frankin County would have won. FC played a terrible 3rd quarter, but rebounded and outhustled and outplayed SC in the 4th. Good Game!

Tonight shows that not only the 11th region is wide open, but the entire state tournament. Pendleton county beating Newport Catholic by 3, South Laurel losing 3 in a row, and Franklin County losing to Shelby by 5. There arent really any teams that are dominating their schedule, and i cant even pick a favorite to win the 11th, much less the state tournament. Franklin County showed a lot of heart at the end of the game, and if they can ever put a full 32 minutes with that same intensity, they would be tough. This is one team that i wouldnt want to see in late February and early march.

SL has dropped two in a row.

Good showing by Franklin. I'm interested to see how they perform against PRP on Saturday.

That was a gutsy effort by the Flyers over the final 4:30 seconds of the game. It seemed like Shelby just quit playing when they got the lead into the mid 20's. I agree that Franklin would be a force if they could play that way for the entire game instead of half of a quarter. At the same time we can't forget that despite Franklin's gutsy fourth they still were beaten. For as impressive as Franklin's four minutes were Shelby's first 28 minutes were even more impressive and at times amazing. They showed the folks in Franklin for three and half quarters, that when they were playing hard, that the Flyers were just not on the same level. I believe that is Shelby's biggest problem is that they tend to coast when things are getting to easy for them. Had Shelby kept playing with the same focus the game would have been a 20 - 30 point blow out but high school kids have a hard time realizing that they must keep playing even though they are dominating the other team. I would be interested to find out what Slaughter's stat line was for the game. He had to have scored at least 20, he also grabbed a number of rebounds, deflected and stole at least six to seven passes and dished out at least 5-6 assists. I don't know this for sure but I would like to know what he did.

I am not sure what game you were watching, but the first half was a dead heat. Shelby got some baskets early, but FC kept it close throught the half. Shelby played a great 3rd quarter, and FC played a great 4th quarter.

While Slaughter is the best player that played in the game, I didn't think he played exceptionally well last night. He finished with 21, 8 off of FT, but he also turned the ball over alot. SC's problem is Slaughter is the only true basketball player they have. The rest of their players are great athletes who feed off of what in going on in the game. I think they are real fortunate that Scott County is no longer in the 8th, because their season would end in the regional tournament, and it might anyway.

No one in the 8th will come within 15 of Shelby in the region.

You might want to tell Anderson that. They lost to Shelby by 7 and had them on the ropes.

I think you took my assessment of the game the wrong way. Franklin did play hard but Shelby built an early 10 -12 point lead and the kids from Franklin did a good job of keeping them from running away early. Franklin was able to keep getting the lead down to around 6 points which is what they trailed by at half. In the third quarter both teams maintained the same level of hard play but Shelby's overall athleticism and talent took over. Franklin had no answer for either of Shelby's post play which is where the game was really decided. Wade, Chambers and Patterson dominated the Flyers in the post. There was dunk after dunk and easy lay ups for all of Shelby's post players. I am not saying Franklin is a bad team but there are a very long way from making any noise in the 11th. I am glad to see the Flyers didn't throw in the towel but suggesting they should feel good about coming close suggests that you don't believe, as I stated, that they are on the same level as Shelby.

No question Shelby Co. is a legitamate top 20 maybe top ten team and very athletic. They should win the 8th easily, anything less should be a disappointment. AJ Slaughter is the real deal.

Franklin County is rated exactly where they should be rated, about midway down in the 11th Region (check Cantrell and LIT Ratings) and should stay there until they prove they can win against a higher rated, quality opponent.

I will also add that the 11th, according to the power ratings is the toughest region top to bottom in Kentucky.

,

I disagree with you as to the post play being the difference in the game. In my opinion the difference in the game was in the 3rd quarter when Shelby went to the full court trapping press. Franklin County did not take care of the ball and made too many turnovers. Until Franklin County can cut down on the mistakes offensively and prove that they handle the pressure from a very athletic team for a full 32 minutes, they will stay where they are in the power ratings. It is simple math, if one team gets more attempts at the basket then the other, they have a better chance to win a ball game. If Franklin Co continues to be this careless they will only get close, and you know what they say about close.

Although dunks are impressive they count the same as a 10 foot jump shot. If I was the coach from Shelby County I would have much concern about having let a team back in when they were up 22 points late in the game.

If Shelby is going to make noise in the State Tourney they still yet have some work to do.

Hope to see AJ and his Rockets in Rupp where I'll be sitting courtside in the 3rd row!!!!

Good luck Rockets
