Just a few points on West Jessamine. West beat South Oldham 8-4. It was 8-0 with 15 minutes left when West pulled their last starter. SO scored 4 goals in the last 11 minutes against the reserves. Six weeks later in the regional final, West is now without two of their starters a D (rest of season ACL) and MF (out regional final, sub sectional and played at about 60-70% level in final 8 game) and they played one of their main MF playmakers on D in the regional final. West also played the same MF on defense against SHA (only two games she played D) and won 2-1. SHA scored on a great free kick from ~ 25 yards out. West had plenty of offense before the injuries to move some O to D. Against CC, West played a girl that had never played MF in the midfield most of the game. High school soccer is a lot different than club, you have holes and you have to move players to where you think you’ll match up best against a particular opponent. The past two seasons West was 39-4-6 playing a top 5 schedule. The past 3 years they have been knocked out of the State Tournament by the eventual State Champion (still possible this year as well). Were they overrated? Obviously, I am too close to the team to have an unbiased opinion. But, I don’t think you can judge that on one, or two, games (that were 1-0 win and 0-1 loss) either.
