  1. Painter, you attempt to compare Russell's allowance of points with Ashlands, stating there is but one point differnce. Have you looked into when most of those points allowed by Russell were made? Many of our sophomores and Freshmen have had playing time against our opponents varsity players. For example, the game against West Carter, they scored their sole touchdown late in the game against our much younger kids. As I recall most of our younger kids played against Greenup's varsity. I don't think the scoring against Ashland was against your younger kids. So, if you want to make true comparisons, please compare the same things.

As for Sweet Old Rambler, I always enjoy your great retorts and quick wit.

  2. Old Rambler, you need to quit staying up until the wee hours on this site. You get cantankerous and mean to us poor Russell fans.

I don't think our boys need any more help getting up for this or any other game. They are also very focused. I really don't think any of them read these and take them seriously. I would hope they don't read them at all

Someone mentioned that we needed to have an answer to Carter. I agree. But, what is the Ashland answer to Bailey and Abrams. Also, as Drew Abrams has said in the DI, the line has been blocking great.

Best of luck to all this weekend.

  3. I hope our Devils use this as incentive throughout the season. Many times our team is rated lower in the pre-season than the collective talents of our players merit. These are just one person's opinion and the real test will be on the field. We lost seniors, but have many kids who are stepping-up to move into those vacancies. Just as any players, they will learn. Good luck to all in 3A.

  4. I'm interested in whom you think will be the team leader or leaders this year. We have some new folks coming into positions, particularly at quarterback. Do you think this group of seniors will have the leadership to help bring it all together. I think that leadership is important to set the tone of the team. I know these are hard-working kids, but what kind of team mentally are you looking at? I know last year, Tyler Jones would go from player to player to get folks into the game and had no qualms encouraging players or getting in their faces. Who do we have to replace him?

  5. I'm more than confident that the Principal, Asst. Principal, and AD will make a great decision on the hire. There will never be a consensus on who is the best person for the job in this thread. It seems that most who have an interest are supporting different folks for different reasons. I just hope they chose someone who will be a good role model, knows the game, has varsity coaching experience, and can work to build-up the Marv Meredith League.

  6. Look: As for the line, everyone is worried about Hutchinson or Lions (a tackle returning from last year), Dillon at end and Mitchell and Rogers switching at end. Blevins is center. Miller is tackle. The line? No worries (the running game is there). QB? Well I'm good friends with his father and here are some things he has told me. As a starting QB, his record is 25-4 (given team effort). As a passer over the last 5 years: 70 to 80% every year. As a runner he ran an 11.2 second 100 meter as a freshman on thetrack team. Longest pass recorded through the air: 53 yards. So I'm thinking we have the talent to make it to the carpet. The question is: Will they pull together as a team, or try to be solo performers? Those who've watched the games over the past few years know that when Tyler came out, the offense never missed a beat when AJ was in there.

I think the kid's name is Lyon but who cares

  7. This could be the game of the year in the entire state......both teams look really good. Grim is coming off a nice game at Ashland(200+ yards on only 15 carries,or something like that) but I am not puttin money on the eagles though. Belfry and JC, from what I hear, have playmakers on both sides of the ball. I plan on makin the trip down to the CAM from Russell on friday(if we don't have practice that day of course)

  8. I watched the replay of the game last night and the play-by-play and color guys both continued to mention what a great offensive line Russell has. They block, make great holes for those little guys to run through. Many times I think we forget those guys whose names are never announced over the broadcast system, but are in there making things happen on every offensive play. A few weeks ago Drew Abrams gave credit to the line when he was interviewed in the Independent. Another great job by our defensive and offensive lines last night.

  9. Wishful thinking that's why I always root for the other team, especially Belfry, maybe Breathitt County. Maybe Raceland, you all better not take them lightly.

I'm sorry, I thought this was a thread about your game with Lewis County. It's always amazing how you can maneuver any thread that has nothing to do with Russell into a Red Devil bashing. That green you wear Warrior isn't just for your school, it also looks alot like you're green with envy.

  10. We don't need to get our seniors hurt in a meaningless game, we need them when the playoff's start in 3 weeks, I agree let them play, but we don't need any more getting hurt, this late in the season, we just got #2 back, he has been missed. Plus Lewis County only has 19 player's, sure win the game, but don't emberass them, if we happen to put some pts. on the board, and try to run up the score, what does that prove.

You're assuming that you will win. Lewis Co. has a fine QB and a really impressive receiver. I didn't think your pass coverage was your strong point. Also, the kids from Lewis really play with a lot of heart. They have to with so few on the team. I think they can take Greenup, Lewis 14 Greenup 3.

  11. If it were me I would hold Jones out and let that ankle rest for a couple of weeks. Let Cordle take the snaps and gain some valuable experience. At running back I would give the bulk of the load to Bailey. Let him work it out and get Abrams some rest.

This game means nothing. Get ready for the playoffs. This is as good as a scrimmage to work on some different things.

I think the boys, the coaches, and apparently every other fan in Russell is taking every game seriously, including this one. Nothing is taken for granted and this game means much to both communities.

  12. Hey HCT, the are even going to cheat at that one :irked::D.!! All the groceries and stores are in their back yard and the Raceland folks have to drive out of town to the store!:lol:

You bet. Krogers and Pennington's have instructions not to sell to anyone wearing black and orange, or with horns protruding from their heads. We will have a grocery patrol checkpoint at the exits for all groceries and quick marts in gas stations in the area. You Rams won't even be able to buy candy bars from machines because those will also be patroled.:fire:

  13. Folks from the ADI told Coach Helton they were "understaffed" and could not make it to the game.

That must have been because they were all at the Ashland game so they could provide overwhelming coverage of the Tomcats' loss to take up over one-half of the front page of the sports section. I guess it's more newsworthy that Ashland loses and is out of the postseason than a great win by a highly rated local school.

  14. Yes, there will be a food collection contest between the two schools. With all food (canned goods, non-perishables) will go to Helping Hands. So be sure to drop off food at your respective schools. Lots of hungry kids in the County and with the holidays coming up, these contributions will be very much appreciated. Also, I have heard that there will be extra bleachers brought in to accomodate the extra fans that both sides expect. What a great time. GO DEVILS:devil::dancingpa
