I'm so sick of hearing about, Tyler, Adam and so on. Lets stand behind the kids we have. A little encouragment cant heart
me to!

Negativity is what is pulling Russell down? C’mon sore looser…give ME a break…its not negativity which is pulling the Devils down…it’s the down year Russell is having which is causing the negativity. I honestly hope Russell can put this sub par season behind them come Friday night and give the Rams a run for their money.
I would think that Raceland, too, would like the Devils to have their cockiness back in full gear for this game…there is not much glory in beating up on a little brother.
Other than pure and simple optimism, what can you point to which Russell has accomplished this year which prompts your belief “There is nothing that this team is not capable of doing!”?
Look, you have to admit, whenever the fans and community are behind you and cheer the team on, the team seems to want to win or at least try. Don't get me wrong I know Russell is down to comparable standards of just the last 3 to 4 years. I know I am a little spoiled. I just want to show some encouragment to these young men and the coaching staff.
I am looking at these kids accomplishments through the years. Yes there have been some kids come and go, but for the most part they are the same kids. Doesn't seem to have the heart they use to have. I think it is there just trying to find it.
I won't pout if Russell gets bet, as long as they play hard all 4 quarters and play with emotion and heart.

I don't think bulletin board material is really needed for Raceland in this one. This year's Russell team is a world away from being as good as last year's team and is a galaxy away from being as good as the '05 and '06 teams. Let's face it. The stars are aligned for the Rams in this one. This game pits the best Raceland team in a decade against the worst Russell team in a decade. No bulletin board material is needed when you simply have the better team.
And darn it, I really wanted to come on here and give you Raceland guys a hard time about how Russell is going to win this week! But after witnessing this Russell team play again tonight, I have to say they are going need a turnaround for the ages to beat Raceland. And since I don't think they are allowed to bring back Tyler Jones, Adam Foster, Toby Hicks, Jonathan Cornwell, and Greg Bender from last year's team, the facts are the facts. Raceland should beat this team and beat them badly.
That being said, I voted for Russell in the poll just to make sure they had one vote. ;-)
Give me a freakin' break. The negativity is pulling the devils down. Look at what the Raceland fans are posting. All positive. If the Devils go out there Friday night and don't believe then they probably won't win. So come on Russell and be a little cocky and know what ability this team is capable of.
And yes all the players from previous years team were very good players. But, thats's just what there are, alumni. So make your own statement Russell players. I believe Russell can win and I believe they will win!
There is nothing that this team is not capable of doing!
SO ROCK ON RUSSELL!!! :ylsuper:

Ashland would not win a 3A champioship. Just realize Russell is down a bit this year and will still have a respectable year. I do realize that that's probably not good enough for most Russell fans, considering their past success.
I think Ashland could win in 3A. Not only that but they sure have a shot at winning the 5A.
-
Why not upgrade the non-district portion of your schedule instead of moving up to 4A? I know Johnson Central would love to get a series going with Russell.Other teams I'm sure would be interested are Ironton and Wheelersburg.
I think so to, Russell has Ironton on there schedule in 2009 and 2010.

Simon Kenton's has a great team. Lots of speed. Best back that Russell has seen in a while. Russell will be just fine in the next couple of weeks.
-
Playing quality teams help, IMO. Russell was competitive with SK last year – they are not “far” superior.
Russell’s starters are not used to playing a whole game due to the easy district schedule that they play. It appears that they can play with a good team for about a half and then get whipped in the 3rd quarter. If Russell is going to continue playing a lot of weak teams (because they have to in their district) then they need a better conditioning program outside of games. It’s late in the season to be so winded in the 3rd quarter.
Just what I was thinking.
-
Depends on how the coaches call the plays.
Depends on who wants the win the game more Russell or Mason.
-
Doesn't surprise me, Ashland has a great team. Very underrated.
-
As a Russell fan, I will have to go with Ashland. Not many teams in this area will stop Ashland. Very good young team.
-
Congrats to the young Tomcats! The future looks bright in Ashland.
Congrats to Ashland

Sam is a freshman. Last year as an eighth grader was one of the Tomcat Baseball starting pitchers.
Does this make him a good quarterback?

Its not that I think Fairview has bad coaches, but IMO they have not proven anything in this area or in their own district so far. They have a solid coaching staff but IMO they are not on the same level as Ashland, Russell, or Raceland's staff. You cant argue with statistics and Mcglone and Vanderhoof both have the district titles (not sure how many McGlone has total but Hoof has around 6 or 7 since he has been at Raceland) and in Mcglones case, state titles, to prove that they are very good high school coaches. McPeek may reach that level one day and I hope he does, but he's certaintly not there right now.
Very well said! McPeek won't be at Fairview long enough to prove himself. IMO, Rock on Rams, well until you play Russell!:fire:

I could not have said it better.

I am pulling for Russell. Advantages for Ashland - at Home and they are hungry for a big win. Russell advatages - 3-0(not reaslly been challenged yet, although Boyd is very underated) and Russell knows how to win. The "D" will be the BIG factor in this game. Russell has 1 more very large advantage and that is Gary Morris. Remember Russell players, Defense wins games!!

Huh?
In Region 15, test scores from 2007 ranked the top 3 schools:
1. Paintsville
2. Pikeville
3. Phelps
While it can be argued the first 2 have had bright days in the sun athletically, the only common factor of these three schools is their relative small size.
How does academic excellence lead to success in athletics ?!?
:bunny:[/QU
We are talking state wide. If I am not mistaken, Johnson Central has 1 of the top elementary programs in the state. Russell Independent has achieved many honors academiclly, for the most part both of these schools do very well in sports. Of course there are up and down seasons, but both have a winning reputation.
I think that a lot has to do with parent, teacher and community involvment. Kids who have support want to succeed and win. That makes a huge difference, even if you have a small school. :thumb:
-
Golfer Dad you are exactly right. Russell is the best team in the surrounding area and The Daily Independent hardly ever covers them. It sounds like that not only does Johnson Central have a football team, they also have a great school system. If you will notice schools who do well academically also do well athletically.
-
No excuses, but GC had most of the the jv in the whole forth qtr.
The only other choice Russell could have done not to score so many points was to put the JFL in.

If Russell beats Greenup this year it going to be the last one.Greenup will win the next four or five years.
This year's Russell Jr.'s wore Greenup's Jrs. out as Freshman. Unless Greenup has a lot of really good Sophmores or new players, I just don't see this happening. But good luck anyway.
-
Always a winning tradition. What will we see this year?
-
I think this year will be the last chance the Devils have at making a run for the title for a couple of years. Not very much depth in the upcoming Junior and Sophomore classes. While they have very talented players. There just isn't very many of them. (I mean numbers wise.) Didn't the freshman team only win 1 game? Plus after this year they will have to replace the entire backfield. The quarterback. Majority of the line, as I see mostly seniors winning the open positions, and the entire secondary. So after this yr, they will probably only return 2 linebackers and maybe 1 or 2 lineman. Its gonna be tough to come back from that, I hope they do though. Thats 2 years ahead anyways, I just don't like everyone saying they have no shot this year. I think they will be much better as a TEAM than the 07 team. Since most of these kids played critical roles on that team.
Sorry you feel that way, but I will have to disagree. The up coming Jr.'s have a lot of true athletes, such as Jones, Rice, & Smith just to name a few and much depth. As Sophmores these kids got a lot of Varsity play time. I don't know much about the upcoming Sophmores. But there is a huge jump in growth and development of the kids from a Sophmore to a Senior year. The kids seem to have to dedication to what it takes to be a champ, and certainly our wonderful coaches do also. That is not to say that we won't miss the Senior running backs in 2009! I also foresee more Juniors in starting spots than what you believe.
-
Russell has what it takes to win. In the next 2 years, I expect Russell will have another state title under their belts.
-
Although a lot of there kids don't live in district. I continue to wish Fairview the best of luck.
-
I will have to go with Coach Morris at Russell.

I think they were wanting the directions to Putnam Stadium. Lots of big games in the state tonight.
