  1. I saw a tweet put out by Kentucky Premier on Monday 1/11 announcing that Justus Martin had committed to Georgetown College. She joins other 8th region top players who have committed to Gtown in Kaci Currens (Anderson County) and Hailey Ison (Walton-Verona)

Martin will also join former South Oldham stand out Abbey VanZandt who is the starting PG for the tigers this season.

  2. Of course it is well deserved but I bothers me that Joe B. Hall did not know her name! He kept calling her Marci! That tells me he has no clue about girls basketball! Donna Murphy presented an award, they should have let her present the girls since she was the 1st Miss Basketball! Just get the feeling that it is way about boys and they are just letting the girls tag along! Just saying! Also girls in the past 4 years have at least won the majority vs. Indiana while the boys are getting handled! Sorry to complain but when a girl gets the highest honor you can get you would think they organization presenting could at least get her name correct! Now I feel better!

Wow! Pretty bad that he did not say her name correct nor is he one that is that familiar with the girls game. Congrats to Maci- something she will remember for the rest of her life.

  3. it is a fundraiser/money maker. you pay to play. it gives the kids another chance to play....but is not an "exposure" opportunity. parents and a few high school coaches will be in attendance.

Thanks for info. Am curious as to how/where they got names to invite? Cost is only $10. You would have to get a lot of players to make any money.

  4. Wow, a 26-point turnaround from game #1 to game #2! When was the last time that South did not advance to the region tourney? This just might turn out to be Trimble's year.

It has been 10 years! Season ended poorly for the Lady Dragons- 6 straight losses. Oldham had a effective, well prepared game plan which they executed perfectly. They did not press and sat back in a zone which South had no offense for- just an ugly game for the dragons all around. Well officiated game.

Coach Bryant did a great job for Oldham. His energy on the sidelines was fun to watch. Championship game on Friday will be a good one. Give the edge to Trimble with their overall size and ability to score in the post.

  5. I recall watching Erin play earlier this season and she had a stellar game that night. Wasn't sure of her season stats until I just looked.......going by just stats, she leads South Oldham in practically every category. Seems that some coaches went the reputation factor IMO!! And No, coaches don't present a list to other coaches to consider!!

Interesting- which gets to thought process as to how do some of these coaches even vote for players if they never play against them. Yes I know they talk to each other but in this situation, with first year coaches, South was at a distinct disadvantage IMO, and averages do not always tell the whole story. Wilson leads in scoring then VanZant (both at 13+ ppg) then Jones with 11 ppg. But look at the shot attempts- how many more the top two take as compared to their averages. Jones draws the best defender in most games, especially within the district, which opens up the lane for driving. Kind of the Coach Cal analogy regarding efficiency and productivity and what you do without the basketball never gets tracked.

All three of these South seniors are top 15 in the region based on talent and skill but voting will never come out that way. Happy for those that made it and sad for those who were also deserving but were over looked. Go get em' in the district and region tournaments. Success there is more important!

  6. Well spill it who's not on the list that should be?

Erin Wilson from South Oldham has had huge performances of late and has numerous good games against region opponents Appears to be ahead of some on the list. Guess reputation may have as much influence as statistics. Does each coach present a list of their nominees for coaches to consider?

  7. The pressure SK applied to Walton just killed any chance for Walton to win. SK has good guards especially Neace and Bosse is a load to deal with. Out of three refs, one was pretty good but the other two guys were just flat out terrible. You just can't go to a Boys' or Girls' game and see good officiating anymore. Very sad

    Could not agree more!

  8. any stats?

    Wilson 24

    Ishmael 16.

    Jones 9

    Vanzant 8

    S Herold 5

    P Herold 3

Vanzant in foul trouble most of game. Career game for Ishmael. S Herold with her first varsity start. Wilson was relentless and got to the rim through multiple defenders. Jones had solid defensive effort along with S Herold. Lots of hustle plays all around for the Lady Dragons. Officiating was inconsistent.

  9. Typically the home team will call the game results in, provide box score, etc. Sometimes in tournaments, especially when out of town, both team will call in to their respective papers, tv etc. The Courier Journal has had very little coverage in games outside Jefferson Co this year. Not sure if schools not calling in or if CJ is really that bad.

  10. SK has a solid team as does Shelby so I cannot really disagree with those two being the top teams. I would give the nod to SK though due to defensive pressure and physical play. After those two, there are about 6 or 7 teams that are all capable. Now South Oldham played an absolutely horrendous game- all aspects, against Shelby Co (I know you are thinking I am crazy CM) but they are finding their stride and just beat a quality athletic Eastern team last weekend. They fall in that second tier with the likes of Gallatin, who they beat already, WV, and Anderson. Plus Trimble has the height but appears to have been in a funk lately. I guess my point is that there are more teams in that second tier worth considering than just the three mentioned above.
