  1. What happens when a kid is old for the 8th grade and would miss out on playing his senior year because he is too old. Is there any special rule for this situation?

Legislation was passed this year regarding special situations and kids with individual education plan and their age. It was presented in the House by William Milward Dedman and passed in Senate and was signed by the Governor in April. I think it is HB 380.

KRS 156.070 is amended to read as follows: blah blah blah

    Section E

    (e) Any student who turns nineteen (19) years of age prior to August 1 shall not be eligible for high school athletics in Kentucky. Any student who turns nineteen (19) years of age on or after August 1 shall remain eligible for that school year only. An exception to the provisions of this paragraph shall be made and the student shall be eligible for high school athletics in Kentucky if the student:

    1. Qualified for exceptional children services and had an individual education program developed by an admissions and release committee (ARC) while the student was enrolled in the primary school program;

    2. Was retained in the primary school program because of an ARC committee recommendation; and

    3. Has not completed four (4) consecutive years or eight (8) consecutive semesters of eligibility following initial promotion from grade eight (8) to grade nine (9).

    More confused now???

  2. Actually I understand the intricate technical details pretty well. I also understand that football is the ultimate team sport. Players and coaches are a part of that team. Your comments seem to imply that the fault is ALL with the players. 1)They don't execute, 2)They don't give maximum effort, 3)They don't hold onto the ball, and 4)They can't make plays.

Sorry, I don't buy that. You win as a team and you lose as a team. Everyone shares in the blame and everyone shares in the glory.

Yeah I like the articles where Jaggers blamed the senior leadership as part of their problem, only 4 seniors start and one of those seniors has never played football before. So I guess we need to teach the other 12 Seniors to step up and LEAD from the sideline? Leadership starts at the top, it's time for everyone to take a look in the mirror - coaches too!

  3. Specifics please. Mercer running the ball or more like knowing who is going to run the ball and where? I didn't make it to the game so I don't know what happended and seems like there aren't too many Titans fans who want to get on here and talk about the game.

We're just not feeling the love maddog. Afraid anything we say can and will be used against us (or our children). I'll plead the 5th :thumb: Not hardly~~~

Mercer Titans Football Players, especially SENIORS - we are behind you 110%.

Go Mercer County Football! Go Titans Team!

  4. Hats off to the coaching staff. Some necessary adjustments made a world of difference tonight. Good effort overall. Nice to see Titan football on display again.

Definitely had the "spark" tonight. Great effort from everyone. The adjustments made them play like a different team and gave opportunities for many different Titan players. Big success and huge effort on the field boys! We are very proud of you! :thumb: Remember the Titans, forevor!

  5. I wonder why Coach said in the interview after the Lincoln Co. loss that Senior leadership was part of their problem. "Jaggers thinks the Titans have one other problem, too. 'Our senior leadership is not very good right now'." (amnews 9/9)

I guess the other dozen or so Seniors are supposed to step up and lead from the sideline?

This message goes out as a challenge to Titan fans: whatever player(especially seniors) you may be in contact with this week or run into or see their parents, go out of your way to say something nice and encouraging to them, be positive and let them know you support and believe in the TITANS.

  6. Just going by what I've heard from some of the parents and one coach... that going to Watertown and playing them will be like playing Burgin (sorry, no disrespect to Burgin...they don't even have a team). 3-0 means nothing to me. Who knows what caliber of teams they have played??

I read last week in the big Harrodsburg Herald that Burgin used to have a team, many years ago, even won a state championship? :D

Defense will continue to be strong Mercer 14-7 Pulaski

Are they on different time zone than Mercer?

  7. It's rude and ungrateful to point fingers, talking negative, complain, etc. to a bunch of kids and a coaching staff that has worked their tails off over the past two years, going 17-1, winning a state championship, helping bring a community that has been split since it's existence, etc. .....the world didn't end tonite. Like Network said, Mercer lost a very hard fought ballgame tonite, and on the flip side, Mercer will also win.

Kids and coaching staff and you forgot PARENTS who have worked their tails off over the past 2 years and we parents get nothing but griping and complaining from other parents ad the community. Mercer lost and the world didn't end, but it rattled a few chains! And according to many, the community is still split ( a fairly recent article that referred to it as a festering sore, and the other reference of a wart.) Win or lose I will always support my child:thumb: But if you prefer, I will just stay at home.

  8. I know nothing about your situation but even if you feel that way, you are wrong for saying it, IMHO.

Please don't say negative things to your student-athlete about his coaches or teammates, that is only to cause problems for him.

I sincerely hope this works out for you.

Being positive after each game has become more and more difficult, words of encouragment and anything positive about the night are the words my son hears. And Mr. Network sir, I mean no disrespect in saying, not only have I earned a right to "complain" which I really meant "to be heard" but my son has earned it too and is owed an explaination. I do not encourage my son to give up on anything and he has tremendous respect for those Coaches who have earned it.

  9. Do I this year? No. The entire "skilled" position kids will all be new starters, except for Griffith, the rest are the J.V guys from last year. Also, not to mention the loss of few kids named Cory Jackson, Brandon Ford and Donald Walker. You might have noticed them?!:jump: :thumb:

And this year is the opportunity for those JV guys to be "noticed" they have earned it.

  10. Nathan is a great kid on and off the field. I am glad all is going well for him and hope that he is given an opportunity to show what he is really capable of doing. He took a backseat last year after stepping in big his sophomore year which had to be disappointing and frustrating for him. He has kept a great attitude and if anyone deserves a stellar year it's Nate - go #30 :thumb:

  11. A new source told me yesterday that the contract was never signed, Jaggers and Cobb had agreed to the game weeks ago. But with time running out no one in the administration at Mercer could or would forward a signed copy to the SHS AD. SHS grabbed the Metcalfe game at the last minute to ensure the schedule was filled. I do not know at what lengths they went to at the last minute to contact Mercer, but I was told that they had called several times wanting a signed contract and were told repeatedly over the last several weeks, were sending it but it never showed up.

I as a Jumper fan wish they were playing, but they are not, and I am ready to move on with the games we do have.

My source isn't looking at the Mercer Administration, but to Somerset's for not signing the contract. Mercer needed that game 2 - doesn't make sense that Mercer would hold up the process, wonder how many time Mercer's AD tried to contact Somerset, has anyone asked that question? I can tell you - MULTIPLE times -Mercer wasn't holding up the process. Somerset grabbed Metcalfe as a way out of playing Mercer. I was told that Somerset was dragging their feet on signing the contract to play Mercer, now I guess we all know why. Good luck Somerset against Metcalfe. Now that we are off that week I guess we can all come watch you play.

  12. But, I still don't understand why they backed out. I can't see Mercer finding a game now for that week. If their field was a problem they could have asked to swap home dates for the series. No doubt that Mercer is the big loser here.

Mercer is the big loser here. Somerset knew that Mercer had Metcalfe in the background needing a game and ready to play, but ONLY if Somerset backed out. Guess what Somerset did? Mercer is without a game week 2 and now Somerset vs. Metcalfe - you figure it out?
