Somewhat of an unfair statement given Leach had spoken to the admin about leaving (on his own) 3 weeks prior to the big blowup. This has already been discussed on other threads. Reasons were never disclosed (as they should not be) other than they were personal.
Not true! This years coach had the same issues that other coaches have there...NO support from Administration and parents interference!

He is still on the team.
He played Saturday night against West Carter.
He practiced yesterday, too.
Why was he off the team to begin with?
-
...let them not forget. :jump:
Greenup County by 1 on a last second jumper by Eric Craft...
That will never happen!

No question in my mind that Raceland is great. Super schools, teachers, athletics, and adminstration. Which brings me to this point. Maybe Greenup Co. should hire a Raceland alumni to take over the boy's program. Maybe Coach Keeton Raceland 93' would move offices and provide the same stability to the boy's program that he has given the girls.
Blue Blazer, at this time in Greenup's time I would not wish this job on anyone! Regardless of a coach's track record somehwere else, until the other issues at Greenup is addressed and fixed...... coach's are fighting a losing battle.
-
The differences that I have noticed between Raceland and Greenup is that Raceland is a tight community that really supports their sports and academics, in a very serious way, compared to Greenup having Competition within its own County so bad that the School cannot prosper. JMO.
The vast majority of the Greenup community is great! The major issue, there are a handful of selfish people who are very vocal and bullish and the silent majority in Greenup has yet to take a stand with these few people. What compounds the situation is the administration has not held their ground either. The silent majority needs to put the troublemakers in their place, the administration needs to make sound decisions and support the truth. Until these two things occur, Greenup HS will continue to have turmoil and run off good people. As a result of all this “stuff” the kids suffer…….

The Talking Heads at Greenup County had this in the works ever since he got booted at Rock Hill. He's made it clear that Greenup is his dream job. So you can say that coach Leach ended up being a chip in the "Good ol Boys" power game. They don't care who gets hurt or if they destroy someone's life as long as they get what they want in the end. Coach Hicks didn't have attorney's from all over the state calling wanting to take his case for nothing. Once it gets to court it's easy money. Greenup County tax payers money! Coach Leach needs to do like many others have done, get out and get on with his career whille he still has a peace of mind. Good luck to him where ever he goes.
Great post!

Anyone notice a pattern here?
1. Last year problems within the basketball program
2. This years problems within the football program
3. This years problems within the basketball program
Three different individuals/coaches, yet major issues surrounding the programs. I don't draw the conclusion the coaches are the problem!
Could it be some parents, some administration, some players or what?
You make the call......

I have a points system that I use to rank the teams, based only on strength of schedule and points. It’s amazing how close our polls worked out. Here is mine poll:
Team Points
1. Elliott 985
2. Fairview 872
3. East Carter 870
4. Ashland 831
5. West Carter 792
6. Raceland 766
7. Rose Hill 759
8. Bath 757
9. Morgan 685
10. Fleming 673
11. Rowan 612
12. Lewis 587
13. Greenup 582
14. Boyd 546
15. Russell 410
16. Menifee 358

My prayers are with this family.

Any adult that would bring up a situation like this on an internet thread is NOT a functional adult in society!
I pity the organization/company that has to deal with this "employee" each day.
-
I was at the game also and then went home and watched it twice on video!
Now you are one die-hard fan................

I looked at a few of the Bath Co kids faces during this & felt really bad for them. I felt it was very demeaning to them. For their sakes I wish Coach Hicks hadn't done this.
I can only image how bad the Bath kids felt when they had to hold the ball..........
-
Bath Co held the ball on their hip for the final minute or so to prevent Elliott from reaching the century mark........
Can't figure out what this accomplishes for your team. I would hate to do this and run into Elliott later in the tourney, they may have a short memory!
-
Agree with all the above! You don't tell your subs to get in there and not play. Who does that help; except maybe soothe someone's feelings. I always thought it was no more embarassing to a team to get beat by 50 then it is to have the superior team send out its scrubs and do nothing but play keepaway on offense or give the other team uncontested layups when on defense.
Ditto.............
-
My bad on posting this then!!! I still think it is ridicules that a team beats another team by 40 or 50+!!!! Like I said there is no shot clock!!!! Yeah if a bench is better than the other teams starters, good for them, but u don’t have to rub it in their faces!!! The team I cheer for has never been beat that bad, but when you see all these score on here posted it look horrible!!! I don’t understand the point of doing something like this!!! Beating someone that bad will only do one thing is make people mad, and cause trouble down the line!!! Again I will say this, THERE IS NO SHOT CLOCK, you can pass the ball around a little bit!!![/QUOTE]
One of the coach's many, many jobs is to install an offense that can put the ball in the hole. If he has to try and change his offense during a game because the other team can't stop his team from scoring, then he's not helping "his" team for the future! Also, very, very seldom do you find a coach that "runs" up the score for the sake of embarassing the other coach/team/school.
-
Any details on this game?
-
I tried to tell everyone - this team could win a state championship in the next 2 years. I told you what would happen if Greenup tried to run and gun with them.
I said the big "E" would win by 55, I only missed by 13. The big "E" will do this to a lot of teams this year. Greenup could not have won with any style of play, stall or run they still lose. So I'm assuming the Greenup coach played his style and worked on the things he wants his team to do in the future. If the Greenup program is moving toward an up-tempo game, this game film will be a great teaching tool, Elliott plays it well! Go big "E"
-
I look for Elliott to have their way with Greenup just like they had their way with Morgan last night. Elliott by 30+ especially if Greenup tries to run with them.
The big "E" by 55. Can anyone stay with this team? Who will give them the best game?
-
Greenup travels to Sandy Hook tonight. Any predicitons?
I don't have a score, but the big "E" is the best of the best so it could get ugly! The big "E" is going to make most all teams look very bad this year. Greenup is still learning a new system, so they may be a year away from grasping it. Greenup is a program in transition but their future is very bright, the kids are hard workers and they will learn, sooner than later. The system they are learning is very good but takes time to get a handle on. They will be a force to be dealt with...........

mmmbc is not ignorant of the Greenup saga and Bath's coach, considering this post in the 07/08 Bath thread:

Be careful not to head down the slippery slope!
Oops my bad! I meant to ask about Bell County not Bath! I just got thru reading about the Bath and Paris scrimmage and when I posted my thread I apparently still had Bath on my mind. I was on the phone and typing at the same time, multi tasking is tough for me. You are correct Hicks is something else on the sidelines.......

What's the scope on Bath County boys varsity basketball this season? Any predictions on the season? Who's their best player? When is their first game and with who? Do they have a different coach?
-
Fairview 68
Greenup-52
Big Slick where you been? I haven't seen much of you lately. Fairview is pretty good.....I'll say Greenup 66 Fairview 61.

Brother you need to get in touch with the political riff between bball and football at GC before you post a response on here. The kids at Greenup are and NEVER have been a priority. All the main political players at GC are old football hero's at GC. None were ever sucessfull in sports so they moved to administrative positions within the district including the Superintendents postion. GC needs a good cleansing!
Well I'm betting Greenup does better than expected this year. I hope all is well in your world.

You have to be kidding me. How many other schools throw thier coach (hicks) and team under the bus three games into the season.[
You got to be kidding! No school admin. is going to throw the kids under the bus. Is there a chance stuff happened that you are not aware of that caused the riff with the staff and coach?
