  1. In all honesty, Coach Feldman has not won when it really counted. He got beat in the All 'A' Regional his first year by a much weaker St. Patrick team and then preceded to lose big time to NCC the next two years in the All 'A' State tournament and then lost to a much smaller and less talented team in Danville this year in the All 'A'.

I'm not sure where that remark about St Patrick comes from but the st pat team I remember beating BB in the 2011 All A was not a team I would classify as a "weaker" team. They went on to play NCC in the first round of the All A State and only lost by 7 points. They played within a few points throughout the game. BB, on the other hand lost to NCC a couple of weeks prior, losing by 19. I wonder why someone would take a shot at a team that played their heart out and had plenty of talent (mostly juniors). On Jan 15, 2011, on that night, the better/stronger team definitely won (SP) and by a fairly wide margin. I think you owe that 2010-2011 St Pat team an apology. Those girls brought their "A" game when it mattered, and that is something only the girls can do. The coach can't control that. The same applies to a team that has a bad night. The coach can't make the baskets for them. Leave the coach alone.

  2. Randy, when I saw your prediction on this game in an earlier thread, I thought you were way off. Giving bracken County the nod by only 4 points. I thought it would be a bigger win for the Polar Bears than that, even though I wasn't sure what Bracken had this year. But it sounds like Crawford is a pretty solid player. Congrats to him on a well played game.

As far as food and concessions go....last time I was at St. Pat for a game the popcorn was burnt. And Hoops, mcRib with a peppermint mocha doesn't sound like a very appetizing combination, but to each his own!

  3. ^ Interesting. I thought that those decisions ultimately came down to school administration (whether or not to field a team).

I'm really not surprised that they let the girls decide. The administration at SPHS the last few years hasn't made some of the best decisions, and that is probably why enrollment is down, except they will tell you it is just "the economy". Might as well let a bunch of teenagers decide. lol

Aren't there fines to the KSHAA after a certain date if you cut games?

  4. In the past I have always looked at the previous year's rosters on Riherds to see what players from last year have graduated and get an idea what each team has lost, but I have noticed on several school's rosters the seniors from last year have been removed. Is there some reason for this? Is it Riherds or is it the coaches doing this?

  5. In Douglas's defense, the administration at St Patrick was not easy to work with. In 2008 they developed an attitude that athletics didn't matter and they treated her like cr*p. It's hard to build a program at a school that doesn't want to support the coach.

Funny how they advertise athletics as a selling point for parents to bring their kids there, but they don't feel it is necessary to be competitive. It's more recreational. They just recently advertised their school and they listed baseball as a selling point....there's no baseball team, they didn't even have enough boys sign up to field a team this year. I look for girls basketball to have the same problem next season.

Chambers is much better off at MCHS. Good luck to her!

  6. Clyde, I'm saying its the school administrators job to control the parents if they act like idiots in the crowd. If the parents confront a coach during or after a game and get personal and attack the coaches character and the administration allows it to happen then coach has to do something. Can't let the inmates run the asylum. I've seen coaches cut kids at tryouts because their parents are idiots and will flat out kill team chemistry.

As I'm reading this thread and come across this post, I have to laugh because the one HS game I can remember this year where a parent was obnoxiously vocal towards the refs, and didn't know when to shut up (and was so annoying, I had to move to another seat to get away from them)...... well it turns out the annoying parent was a school administrator, as a matter of fact, that parent was the schools AD. So I guess the inmate was running the asylum. lol

  7. The refs were also being filmed, so that didn'thelp either. Gonna be a long year if they try and call everything. Taking away the flow of the game.

I agree with cb4&11. If the girls are taught to play the game right them there wouldn't be so many fouls. I've noticed that HS girls basketball has gotten really sloppy over the last several years and a lot of girls don't have the talent so they make it up by being brutal and physical and there seems to be coaches that encourage this type of play. Teach them to play a clean game and there wouldn't be so many fouls called. Don't blame the refs for trying to do their job. Too many refs are overlooking fouls just because it drags the game on if they call them and that's really not fair to anyone.

  8. I believe that there will be a lot of excitement in the program with new Coach Chambers and the hopeful return of several seniors-to-be that sat out last season

St Patrick held it's annual green and white night on Friday. Of the twelve girls on their Riherds roster there were ten on the floor. Yeary and Fowler were not playing friday and it is my understanding they will not be playing again this year, despite being on the roster on the Riherds site.

Is St Patrick even hosting an elementary Saturday league this year?

  9. I believe that there will be a lot of excitement in the program with new Coach Chambers and the hopeful return of several seniors-to-be that sat out last season

"Several" may be a little optimistic. With two players from that grade that no longer attend st Patrick, that only leaves two that sat out their junior season (when comparing rosters from the last few years.) I'm not sure that it will make much of a difference.

The lack of interest to play with the lack of a good elementary - jr high feeder program combined with the impression that the administration does not feel like sports should be competitive, I would be suprised if St Patrick even has a girls basketball program after this year.

It's good to be otimistic and I know I may sound harsh, but that's just how I see it.

  10. Chambers was a name that I never thought of when this job came open. I thought this job would take someone young and energetic and she would fit that bill. The question would be how long does she plan on staying and building in this program? It will take a while for this team to become competitive again after losing the core of the team from this year. There was not much underneath that was developed. A person like Chambers needs to get into the grade school and middle school and get more kids interested and developed. Best of luck to Desarae!

I agree that the younger grades need to be developed. It may take several years to re-build that program. Will she also be teaching at the school?

  11. I think Mason will be above Saint Patrick. Saint Patrick lost Crawford to graduation, Stanfield is now at Mason County and not playing sports and Katie Hamm is at Mason also.

Plus Mason has everyone back that beat Saint Patrick twice last year.

I have to agree. I would switch St patrick and Mason. St Patrick brings back very little from last year. Some of the best players on the SP team last year were Crawford, Hamm, Stanfield, and Hamilton. Stanfield was good at almost any position and would most likely be playing for the Royals except she is not KHSAA eligible.

St Patrick brings back McKay and Ring and very little in the pitching dept. Many of the players on this years team haven't played softball for several years. Add that to the fact that Mason brings back everyone and add Hamm to the mix...and yes they did beat St Pat twice last year. I'm not sure I would even rank St Pat in the top ten. I would give the number ten spot to Scott. jmo

  12. There was not one article in the local paper about Coach Douglas resigning. Now maybe we can play St. Patrick again on the girls side. Pretty bad for McKayla Likins, Coach Douglas promised her the world to transfer to St. Pat and it cost her a year of playing. Likins plays one year, loses first game in District to Mason, and now Coach resigns and leaves her high and dry. Tough!!!!

Likins should have seen this coming. Everybody else did. Not only have they lost a coach, but they don't have much of a supporting team returning. I can't imagine who they would/could get to coach. On the bright side, Likins will really stand out.
