  1. It will be hard just in the district, with BB and SH, but with Estes, Coffman, Franzen, Rief, Broering, they do have kids that can pitch and throw the ball over the plate, if they can work some of the underclassman into the line-up which should help them put up runs, they will be a very good team by region, just because they are replacing 5 to 6 starters does not mean that they will not be good by region, most high school teams have to do that year in and year out, CCHS always has to replace 9to 10 seniors, they do have Estes, Coffman, Franzen, Broering, Lauer that played last year, back this year.

That seems to be the thought every year but for some reason they play the seniors before they give anyone else a chance. This could be why they do not have success year in and year out and to why they do not compete until late in the season every year. They always seem to think that seniority has a right in baseball. IMO play the best players regardless of age. They don't seem to do that.

  2. Who returns strong for them?

Not sure to be honest with you. I know the Estes boy is supposed to be pretty solid. Other than that I can't think of anyone. They were Senior dominant last year and I think it could take them a while to get use to the Varsity level. Yes, they had a good JV team last season BUT there is an awfully big difference between JV and Varsity.

  3. Outside of Murray, who are they counting on in the pitching department?

I do know that the only guys who gave us trouble last season were Adtkins and Murray. I just don't see anyone else on that team giving anyone any big trouble this season. They will have good pitchers but not good enough to bother good teams.

  4. Scott's standout players will be EJ Murray, Zach Sowders and Taylor Smith.

EJ batted over .300 his junior year and Sowders batted just over .300 as well. Smith was about .270 but displayed tremendous amounts of power when he did contact as he was second on the team in HRs I believe with 3 or 4 homeruns.

Sowders will be your speed guy and Smith will be more of your clean-up/power hitter. EJ will be more of an all rounder. You will probably see Sowders bat in the 1/2 hole alternating with Hiller (also with tremendous speed but needs to develop his hitting (great OBP though with all the walks he draws, however)). EJ will most likely be in the 3 hole with Smith in the 4.

The big question is will these hitters be able to produce this year. They lost alot of their offense last year with graduation of Adams, Bianchi, Adkins, and Morrison. Last years team batted just under .300 for the year as a team combined. Last year, hitters like Sowders, Murray and Smith were able to benefit and perform well as they had some great hitters around them that were able to protect them so they were able to see more pitches.

Just going to throw some numbers at you. I believe Adams last year batted about .400, with 10 HRs, and about 40 RBIs. Bianchi batted about .310 with 1 HR, and 20 RBIs. Adkins batted over .300 while Morrison was about .290. In general most of the opposing teams concentrated mainly on Adams and Bianchi and not letting them beat them, if they could. Thats why other players like Adkins, Murray, etc benefited. Lots of questions to be answered for the Eagles but they do have some talent in the wings.

Well one thing is for sure. That average sure went up in the District game against Brossart last season. HAHA. 15-14 with 8 homeruns. I can't say I have ever watched a more exciting baseball game in my life.

  5. Mickey Sutton should lead the 9th region this year in every category. He's been lifting and getting his drive up and should be able to wreck the ball 300+ this season. Heard he might be attending the University of Alabama on a full ride.

Covington Catholic is in the 7th Region in golf not the 9th. With that said, Kyle Wilshire from Scott County, Will Bishop from Paul Dunbar, and Hunter Stewart from Lexington Christian appear to be the favorites to win the 9th Region. Don't know much about Adam Venci from Scott but he could be a favorite as well.

  6. Doesn't matter how many you return if none of them are any good :bunny:

Just pushin' your buttons  not trying to start a BB CC fight. I know nothing about Brossart baseball, but Ben Franzen is pretty good. Not on a D1 level or anything but hes a good player.

Any team can be dangerous. IMO ANY team can beat ANY other team on a given night. just depends on who's on or off their game, so essentially every team is dangerous.

I think for the first time we actually agree on something!:thumb:

  7. He might have been impressed but I am not impressed by a 10-0 win what-so-ever. If they would have scored a run maybe I'd consider.

Everyone seems to forget this is the same Brossart team who beat Harrison County 9-4 and then beat Clark County two days later. If thats not impressive I'm not sure what is.

  8. Brossart is one of the top defensive teams in the state. They do a great job of making you grind every possession and contesting shots. They don't give style points in the 37th District games. Scott, Brossart, & Campbell County are all very good defensively and extremely well coached. They all recognize that they are going to have to play each other probably twice every year and someone is not going to get an opportunity to go to regionals.

That leads to every game between these schools having a post season atmosphere. These games aren't going to be pretty but all of the coaches would take the W!

Scott comes back from a 10 point deficit in the 4th quarter to get the win. As good as Brossart as defensively and as deliberate as they can be offensively that does not happen often.

Not one of... They are the best defensive team in the league. They are leading the state in defensive average. Pretty impressive but nothing new for Brossart as they are the top every year in defensive average.

  9. Mutsch threw crazy hard. Coffman can mix in a curve ball, I hope he gets some mound time, he will use that arm very well behind the plate. Broering would be a big boost for the Camels, with JV kids moving up pitching should be no issue.

There is a big difference between JV and Varsity hitting. But only time will tell so we will just have to see. But the Camels did have a good JV pitching staff last year so they have potential.

  10. Covington Catholic beat them pretty good last year and didn't impress me one bit. OYYT is a CovCath fan so that's where she gets her opinion from. Top 5 team is more than likely a fantasy for Brossart. There are plenty of teams that are far more talanted than them.

CovCath beat them 10-0 and were only up 2-0 going into the bottom of the 5th inning. Brossart then switched pitchers and ran out of gas. I know Brossart ceratinly impressed some CovCath fans because TheOldGuy said he impressed them.

By the way I did not mean to stir anything but for people to say that Brossart is not going to be competitive and going to make a challenge to every team in NKY is just wrong. They held their own last year against most teams and they return practically everything. I guess it's one man's opionion though. Like I said I dont mean to stur anything I just do not agree with that comment at all.

  11. Yes this is true. But you also have to win. And I'm pretty sure that GRC lost 4 seniors (all starters) off the Region champioship team and went 22-8 winning their district and losing to eventual State champ Mason County last year in the Regional. Not 15-13. I'm not saying that Code is not a great coach, just not the best.

There is a difference between losing 4 seniors who all start and losing 7 seniors which are the only people who played. It's a little easier to win more games when you at least have a couple guys coming back. GRC at least returned a couple guys from the year before Brossart did not return 1 player with any varsity experience. Look at what Code has done with 1 year of experience. The Mustangs are now 13-2 and have beat a very good Highlands team and Holy Cross. That's just two notable wins. By the way they are leading the state in defensive average only allowing about 39 points per game. Sounds pretty good to me.

  12. When is the last time they won the region???? That's a huge slap in the face to Coach Hump at GRC and Mason's coach who won a state championship last year.

It's easy to win the region when you have the players that Mason County has had. A great coach is a coach who just wins championships but a great coach is someone who has a winning tradition yes but also takes teams with no talent/experience and makes them a competitive team by the end of the season. A coach who teaches flawless and fundamentally sound basketball. A lot like coach Code did with Brossart last year. They were a team who lost 7 seniors from the previous season and had no returning varsity players at all and he still went to All A State and upset an good LCA team and gave University Heights a very good game. Then missed taking his team to regionals because of a buzzer beater by Ccott in the district tournament. That sounds like a coach who deserves that title of best coach to me.

  13. Doubtful.

How do you figure? They were good last year and they only lost 3 starters. Do you really no anything about them or are you just trying to stir things up? i would suggest not commenting on them if you dont know anything about them.

  14. Harrison can play with Brossart. They have the coach to win them that game.

If were going to talk about having the coach to win them that game... Brossart's coach is absolutely the best coach in the 10th region and probably one of the best coaches in the state. He is top 5 every year in defensive average in the state and he always has his teams ready to play. I think Brossart, Campbell, and Scott are all close to even but I guess we wil find out since scott plays campbell and brossart coming up here soon. It is absolutely a shame that one of these teams wont make it to regionals but i guess thats what happens when you play in the toughest district in the region. But then again it happens every year so what can you do.

  15. Harrison returns all but one posistion player. They did lose their ace but they also return two starters from last year that also won some valuble games. They should be a junior dominated team and fun to watch as they grow into some great ball players.

I could not agree more. Harrison County is going to be very dominant just like they are every year. Coach Whitaker always does a great job with them. I believe they started like 7 sophmores last year, correct me if I'm wrong, and they still went to state. Its scary to think of what these kids will do as Juniors and even more scary when they are seniors. They should have a couple great years coming up.

  16. Beechwood and Newport Catholic should be in the top 25

Not to sure about either one of those teams. Both teams will be good but both teams lost some pitching and some offense from last years squad. Like I said they are both going to be good but I dont agree with top 25.
