Montgomery County will have some strong pitching this year. Paige Compton a junior has worked very hard in the off season. Last summer she played with the W VA Dusters 18u out of Huntington and traveled out west to CO to face some of the best 18u teams in the country. She also played in NC,SC at all college exposure tournaments. They played some teams that were all college students and won. They played teams that had several Div 1 players on their teams. This has helped her to grow up so to speak and realize where not to throw the ball.
Also Montgomery will have sophomore Erin Charles who played with a Central Ky team and help take them to a world series championship in ISA sosftball in Ga. She as well learned alot from the great competition that she faced last summer. These two girls will be a geat duo for Montgomery County. Their hitting will not be as strong as far as home runs but they will still have a solid hitting team that can put the ball in play. It should be a fun season.
IMO it will come down to Montgomery and Clark again.

Tough one for the Lady Indians. This will focus them in even more for the final stretch of the regular season and on into the tournament.
Montgomery has played a very tough schedule this year. Usually if they get beat the officials are calling it close. Montgomery is a hard nose team and play very good defense. If the officials try hard enough they can take them out of a game,:taz: Like tonight. I am not taking anything away from LCA they are a very good team. Montgomery plays Rowan Co Friday and Lex Catholic Sunday. So coach Robinson has prepared them for the State tournament. If they make it!

The best player in SEKY will be Emily Gaines from South Laurel, but only a junior so will not be eligible. It appears to be wide open this year. This past year had 1 apparent front runner and several other solid candidates. This year, not sure who will step up and claim it. Should be an exciting year.
I agree I did not know of any clear cut favoites this year. I think next year there will be several girls that will be in the running.
-
Who do you think will be the Miss softball in KY this year?
-
South Laurel is the team to beat in the 13th Region this season .... then North Laurel ..... then Corbin. You also have to watch out for Bell County with ole J.D. coaching now.
How is Bell CO this year? Who are some of their best players?

I don't have a dog in this fight either but if a team plays it's best picking up full court , then they should play that way. I would not throw in the towel until the other team admits defeat and starts subsituting it 's players. Then I would put in my underclassmen and have them to play full court also. You have to teach them what to do even if you have a 32 point lead. If the opposing team can't handle it then that is their problem . But I would teach the younger players to play the same way my starters do. I would not like to run the score up on anyone because I have been there it's no fun. But you still have to coach to win the state and pulling back and playing into someone elses game is not the way to teach young players. I was not there so I don't know who subbed and who didn't in this game. Rowan does have a very good team I hope they win state but it is a big challenge. GOOD LUCK!

Mary is a true athlete. She not only was a terrific softball player but also a terrific soccer and basketball as well. But more than that she is a well mannered young lady who will do great at whatever she does. Congrats Mary and good luck in Med school.

Word on the street is that GRC has a new transfer in that is over 6 foot tall and throws in the low to mid 60's!
Wonder if she is playing Basketball? At over 6 ft she should play it too. What is her name? Where did she transfer from?

If Montgomery County in the 10th has the pitching I think they will have, they will be extremely hard to beat if they can find some offense. I look for alot of very low scoring games this year
Montgomery will have the pitching with Paige Compton and Erin Charles and I think the bats are going to be OK. The girls had a Great summer and alot of the girls worked very hard. Harley Catron should be a big hitter for them this year. They lost alot of Power hitters but I think you will see alot of RBI'S this year from solid base hitting.

In other softball recruiting news, Simon Kenton senior pitcher Kayla Morgan on Monday signed with Pikeville College.
As a junior, Morgan went 20-3 with a 1.16 ERA. She also hit .411 with 12 doubles and 31 RBI.
Pikeville is an NAIA Division I program.

Who is the pitcher for Conner? I remember a tall blond girl from last year. Did she gradruate and what grade is she in?
-
I know it is early in the year but I am having softball withdraws. Does anyone have any ideas on their own regionals this year. In the 10th and it will probably come down to Clark County and Montgomery County again in my opinoin.

Looks like a great chance for some future college prospects! Anybody know of any girls attending in the Central and Eastern Ky regions of the state going?
Several girls from Montgomery County are going.

Who is going to the ASA fastpitch state tournament this weekend in Owensboro?
Does anyone know which fields the tourneys will be held at?
This is for 16u not 18u right?
-
They played a pretty good schedule, but didn't get any really big wins over teams ranked inside the Top 25 or the teams in the "also receiving votes" group, so it shouldn't be a big surprise.
I thought Montgomery would have been there out of the 10th they beat SCOTT CO,DUNBAR,CAL,GARRAD X2,LAFAYATTE,LEX CATHOLIC X2 I guess sometimes the best team dont get to state huh.

GRC did not score a run in the state tournament what went wrong I thought they were better than that.

Article from the paper today:
Lady Cards win region title
By Keith Taylor/Sun Sports Editor
The George Rogers Clark High School girls’ softball team is headed back to state.
The Lady Cardinals claimed a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the Montgomery County Lady Indians Wednesday night in 10 innings.
The win earned Clark one of 16 bids to next week’s state tournament in Owensboro. The Lady Cards will take on the winner of the Region 8 contest in the opening round at 9 a.m. on June 6 in Owensboro.
It will mark the team’s second appearance in the event in three years.

Congrats to the Cards it was a good game except for Montgomery's 7 errors.
I wonder if the reason Montgomery counties pitcher was so tired was because Jackie McCLOUD GOT HIS WISH AND CHANGED THE UMPIRE BEHIND THE PLATE. It was supposed to have been the one on first who hadn't worked behind the plate in the regional yet. They have a 3 ump rotation and McCloud said he didn't want that one he didn't like him and his strike zone was too tight.Well the Clark pitcher threw 60 less pitches and Montgomery's pitcher who was not tiring but getting frustrated that the ump would not call her pitches strikes when the same pitch would be a strike for Clark and thats a fact. The ump's have a rotation and the other two had already been behind the plate BUT MCCLOUD GOT HIS WISH. I wish the team well but it is a tough draw.. The article also failed to mention Montgomery had the winning run on second and she got called out when she was called for interference to the short stop and she never touched her she ran behind her.Good luck to the cards and represent the 10th region well

All games at GRC
Bracken Co. (24-11) vs. George Rogers Clark (25-12)1:00
Montgomery Co. (29-6) vs. Scott High (18-14) 3:00
Harrison Co.(19-10) vs. Mason Co. (9-14)5:00
Bishop Brossart (17-16) vs. Nicholas Co. (19-8) 7:00
Should be a good tournament. Montgomery has a bullseye on their back for winning it last year. But providing there are no injuries they should win it again. Clark will have a good test with Bracken the first game. Bracken has been playing good ball as of late. They should be able to hit Clarks pitching without any trouble. Harrison is a very good hitting team as well. Every team will have to play good ball from here on out.

I don't know if it was a question or not. She might be a D-1 prospect and no she probably won't be player of the year.
At the 5 star prep classic tournament this past weekend, I think she found out what it would be like to face some tough competition. This tournament had several top 25 teams in the state in it. She got pounded by several teams. She is a good pitcher but needs some work not a D 1 yet needs to keep it down out of the zone. She gives up some big rips. Just my opinion

Mongtomery beat Scott didn't they?

Yes Amber played first base and continued her great hitting. She can knock the cover off the ball. She hits the ball with such power and has a beautiful swing. I hope she continues her home run chase for the national record.
