  1. What example is the coach setting for his players. Most of the players on the team have played each other since the 7th grade and have had some competive games. The real problem is there are alot of kids in the WC school district that do not want to play for the coach and after last night I can see why. You pay $5 to see some action not a team to hold the ball and keep passing it around. Alot of people left the game with nothing good to say about the coaches game plan and he represents the school. There are upsets everyday so Bardstown was not guaranteed to win they had to come to play. I'm glad my son's are not part of a team were a coach tells his kids before the game they don't have a chance to win unless they hold the ball and take 1 to 4 shots per half. I wonder what St Catherine college coach thought about the game since he was in the stands and trying to recruit some of the players.

  2. Bardstown will be alright when they get all the players 100% healthy and on the same page. Coach Goode has to decide if he wants Hickman to sprint down court on the break or have him help bring the ball up the court to relieve some pressure from or other inexperience guards. Demarco Phillips is not mentally over his football injury and D Edelen still has a torn muscle in his thumb. Jordan Hickman had a severe ankle sprain the first day of practice and only practiced maybe a week or two at tops. He is no were in basketball shape and is trying very hard to catch up. Bardstown will be fine just keep playing and it will come together.

  3. Some good news for Bardstown is D Phillips has been cleared to shoot around after surgery and may be cleared to play in the next couple of weeks. Talked to Jordan Hickman and he said he looking forward to the season and the challenges of the 5th region and the King of the Bluegrass tourney.

  4. I wouldn't count Jordan Hickman from Bardstown out of the mix when you look at the best guards in the state. He is a smooth left handed guard that can take it to the hole or shoot the three. He opened a few eyes this summer in the auu circuit. He is ranked second in the 5th and I wouldn't count him out to be #1 by end of season

  5. I think Bardstown will surprise some teams this year. They have some big lineman with little experience. If they give the quarterback some time to throw the ball it will open alot of things up for the running game. Bardstown has some talented tall senoir receivers in Hickman and Phillips. Bardstown always have speed in there running game so if there line holds up and people step up in defense they will be fine.

  6. I can also say Bardstown has become a complete team as the season has went along. It seems like every game a differant player takes his game to another level. For example D Edelen has come on strong the last couple of games that gives Bardstown another option. He was moved into the starting lineup a few games ago when L Edelen got injured and has been on a tear on the boards and scored over 20 in the region final.

  7. Holmes played pretty well in the region final. I'd say where they were in that game is what you should see against them. I don't think the region final is a true showing of how good their bench really is though.

Dom Johnson only saw the end of the game and Pittman (6'5 guard) didn't play at all in the first half. Holmes has more weapons than what you saw in that game.

That was enough to impress me. Trying to get copy of your game against E-TOWN to compare the tapes and see if we can exploit ant weakness. I can be honest didn't see many in the region final.

  8. Which game did you watch?

Or did you just watch the clips that I posted?

Watched the tape of your region final game against Cov Cath looked real good. Bardstown will have there hands full and I hope they can handle the pressure. If they can break the press they might get some easy baskets. You are right they don't waste no time after opposing team scores we can only hope they make some mistakes by pushing the ball up the court. If both teams play at that pace they might be on empty come the fourth quarter.

  9. I don't think Bardstown has seen a team deep, athletic, and big as Holmes though. Also they haven't played a defensive team that likes to press like Holmes will. Their guards will see full court pressure the whole game.

But that is for another thread. I look forward to seeing the Bardstown players and seeing just how good Hickman is when he has Arrez Henderson guarding him.

I've heard great things about Hall and Hickman so it should be interesting.

Alot of Bardstown players have seen this size and bigger in the AAU circuit as they play alot together after the season. Don't get me wrong I would love to have your size but one big thing that might change the perplexion of the game is the refs. They might call it tight which could help Bardstown if you play in your face defense. Just like the regions games we had differant refs from another region and they let you play in the 5th they call it tight. So both teams will have to adjust to that but since you go 10 deep fouls might not hurt you as bad as us.

  10. Depth will be the key factor in this game as you eluded to because of both team's pressing the whole game. Holmes usually will go 10 deep, but has the ability to get 1 or 2 more players some time off the bench.

It will be tough for Bardstown to press though as after every made basket Holmes doesn't give the other team a chance to set up their press. They are back up the court very quickly.

Holmes starts 3 seniors (Avery, Henderson, Clark) and 2 sophomores (R. Johnson, J. Johnson-twin brothers).

Coming off the bench Holmes plays 3 seniors (Nelson, Humphrey, Riley) a junior (D. Johnson), and another sophomore (Pittman).

Bardstown press is used to slow teams down and hope they make a mistake by throwing over top and they go and get. They set it up pretty fast since have been doing all season. Might have to press in spurts to give some players a little rest. Just watched tape of Holmes and it will be a interesting game to see how the coaches handle each other strengths and weakeness. On tape Holmes is good and Bardstown will have to bring its A game.

  11. Eta you better watch out, I bet tiger is lying to throw you and the Bulldawgs off!

I don't have to lie that's the good thing about Bardstown they are fun to watch because they may get down 10 or so but will keep fighting to the final horn. We have played alot of teams that are bigger but we seem to find a way to win. Size does not always win ballgames it might come down to which teams wants it the most.

  12. Can you elaborate why? Just trying to get a feel of what to expect to see at the state tournament. Thanks.

Hall is a deadly shooter than can handle the ball. Hickman creates matchup problems beacause he is left handed slasher that can shoot or penetrate. He also a good passer as he floats in the air and can find the open man. So if teams collapse on him they usually leave Hall open for a three or bigs for a open lapup. Before the regions Hickman led the team in scoring, rebounding, and assist but Hall came on strong in the regions and might of passed Hickman in scoring. Don't get me wrong on any given night Bardstown has other weapons the two Phillips kids and Edelen can play with the best. Bardstown is a junior laden team that has been playing with each other since middle school were they went 44-0 so they have seen alot of teams since then. The atmosphere at the All A will help but nothing like Rupp but I think they will be ready.

  13. From your first sentence, that is a mirror image of Holmes except the majority of their players are 6'4 and 6'5 with long arms and leapers. Holmes played in Louisville at the beginning of the season so I wouldn't really judge them from that. They were still getting used to eachother as they had two new starters as well as transfers in Ricardo and Jeremiah Johnson who had never played with Avery, Henderson, or Clark before.

Starting lineup wise I think Bardstown will be able to match up with Holmes but once Holmes starts using their depth, I feel that's where they start to struggle.

That's another concern Bardstown during the regionals only played about 7 to 8 players with Hall and Hickman playing the whole game. With both teams pressing Bardstown will need to steal some mins here or there and not make turnovers when they start to wear down. They have done it all season so there no reason to think they can't. One good thing most of the bench are juniors that have been playing together since middle school and know each other well.

  14. I'm interested in seeing how B'town handles Holmes press.

Holmes will have a height advantage in this game as Holmes has 6 players who are 6'4 or taller so rebounding will be key for B'town.

Defensively, I don't think Bardstown has an answer for Holmes. They will need to be smart offensively and work for good shots.

Bardstown has alot of guys around 6'2 to 6'3 with long arms and quick leapers so the size advantage not my major concern. I think the press and getting points from it and not making to many turnovers is more of a concern. I seen Holmes play in Louisville and if they play the same way Bardstown has a cnance to pull upset.

  15. I love it not many are giving Bardstown a chance and I to can say they are alot better since the Class A. The last few games Bardstown is lead in scoring by differant people so it is hard to focus on one guy. I hope Hickman finds his shooting touch but he always has a all around good game like the other night 13 points and 17 boards. The last time we seen a team all out press in your face we struggled so Bardstown has a week to prapare so I say they will be focused and ready to go. Bardstown first appearance since 1971, underdog in the game so nothing to lose so you never know what might happen.

  16. I'm not sure what you mean Tiger8 about part of your comment???? You need to give credit where credit is due. The team concept has been the outstanding thing about the Tiger team this year. They have "Gotten It". Hall & Hickman had a great game! Hall was HOTTTT! Rashaun Phillips did a great job of stopping Macon. But when Macon went nuts the third quarter, big man Logan Edelen was there to neutralize him! It was good to see him back on both feet! This was not one of Demarco Phillips' best game, but he has made up for that when the Tigers need him. He and Damien Edelen have really become stand-out players this year. It will be a fun 2008-2009 season. Hat's off to the Bardstown student section. They are awesome to watch! It is good to see them taking the high road and having fun. They don't have to attack the other players and fans verbally to cheer their team on. Congrats Coach Goode! GOOD LUCK Monday!

What I was saying is Bardstown always plays good team defense but any given night they can be lead in scoring by differant people. Got 47 from Hall/Hickman this game and the next might be Hall/Phillips thats what makes Bardstown so hard to defend.
