  1. Good perspective, Gator. One call didn't decide this game, though that won't make the hurt for the Wildcats any less.

I hear this all the time BUT at that time in the game the missed call did decide the game. You can always rationalize the other points in the game when things happen but when it comes down to the end is when things do have a major impact on the outcome of the game. The reason is that there is not any more time to make up for what happened...and that decides the game.

  2. I suppose I should you explain the basis for my previous comment.

    1. St. John's had a couple really bad fouls called on him. I know he's big, but if he establishes and holds his position with his hands straight up he should not be called for a foul if the offensive player iniates contact.

    2. I saw an obvious goal tend on a break away by Clay Co.

    3. One ref in particular was poor. He made a foul call on a what appeared to be a clean block for Clay. He was out of position and the other refs had better views of the play.

    4. The same official confronted Coach Spurlock in a very unprofessional manner. He looked like he lost his temper which is something that officials would not tolerate so why is it ok for him to lose his cool?

    5. The score keeper blew the horn when he noticed a Clay Co player was bleeding. I understand he may have been trying to do the right thing, but only the refs can stop play.

    6. Score keeper also allowed time to run off the clock on two different occasions.

    7. Clay Co. made a three pointer that clearly hit the guide wire. It souldn't have counted.

I could go on. I realize that calling a game is not easy, but at this time of year missing obvious calls or just flat out making bad calls is unacceptable. I hope it gets better as the tournament progresses.

I agree, for a big game I thought it poorly officiated all the way around.

  3. Good win for Mboro. The reaction of the players and fans you would of thought they won the district. They should win the all "A" without any problem. The Brown kid for Mboro is the quickest player I've seen in the 13th in a long time. Smith shot the lights out from 3 pt. range. Very physical game, 2 of the refs seemed lost most of the night. Should be a good district tourney.

  4. I think it is more off an issue with out of state teams. They are typically the ones with the complaints most of the time. IMO they are very warranted. They usually get the shaft just as Gaffney did yesterday.

Any teams from outside the 13th or outside the state that go to Corbin and Clay Co. can expect to get the short end of officiating if they have the usual suspects calling the games. It's a shame but true.

  5. I will agree that Middlesboro is on a talent scale under corbin. This talent scale is really far under Corbin. Middlesboro has a tough time getting their elite athletes to play basketball. Looks like it is more than just a coaching problem. Sounds like the attitude concerning middlesboro basketball could use something positive.

The ONLY problem Mboro has had is coaching.

  6. The All A means a lot, just ask the teams that won it.

I agree that Middlesboro should be the All "A" favorite with Lynn Camp not far behind. Middlesboro has improved under Jones, but this is a big year for him. The Jackets should win 17 or 18.

Mboro should of won the All "A" region at least 3 of the past 6/7 years with the talent that has gone through that school. Improvement under Jones is very debatable because last season was one of the most talented teams Mboro has had recently. Time will tell this season, if the past is any indication I wouldn't look for much.

  7. M'boro will be loaded with talent next season. This could be the best team they have had in several years. I look for them to have the most talent in the region other than Corbin.

Talent hasn't been Mboro's problem the past 5-6 years. If no coaching change ,than one can only expect the same as years past.

  8. Middlesboro has only had three winning seasons since 1990. I think the guys they have now have made progress. They improved by four games last year, and I pick the Jackets to win 17 or 18 next year and the regional All "A" Classic.

Is Mboro going to have a coaching change? That's a lofty prediction considering nothing has changed that I know of at Mboro. They sure have the talent to achieve better than you predict. I don't think people in Mboro believe they will do much better than last season unless a coaching change.

  9. You have to put M'boro over Knox an Harlan Co. to start the season. They have the second most talent in the region behind Corbin.

As long as MBORO keeps the same coaching they will continue to be a team with great talent that finishes in the middle of the pack in the 13th. I've never seen a bigger waste of talent than MBORO in the last 5-6 years. With all the talent I don't think they have even made it out of the District tourney.

  10. First off, I will clarify, I am not saying Middlesboro needs a coaching change right now. Jones deserves more time. But Middlesboro still does not play good enough defense to be a region contender.

Secondly, Middlesboro has not won a district title in atleast 10 years. I think they may have won in 96 or something, I am not sure. Bell has won 10 straight districts. Most years Middlesboro doesn't even make it to the region, so I really don't know where your going with this contending for a region title stuff. Generally speaking, in order to win a district Middlesboro needs to be able to beat Bell and Harlan Co. now.

Thirdly, there is no excuse, with the talent Bell Co. has had the past 10 years not to win a region. Coach Whitaker IMO had the most talent in the region atleast 3 or 4 years. Bell Co. has fallen short of their goals a lot. I believe Coach Morris did do a very good job with Bell last year considering what they lost through graduation and transfers.

I'm sure Bell, Harlan Co. and Harlan don't want a coaching change at Mboro. Why would they? All the talent Mboro has had and what has been acomplished? I wouldn't want a coaching change either. Give Morris a couple years at Bell and everyone in the region will wish Whitaker was back at Bell.

  11. The most important stat is over the last 10 years I am pretty sure Bell Co's record against Middlesboro is:

Atleast 20-1. It may even be worse than that. I am just estimating 2 games a year, although the 2 teams have played 3 times several seasons. Bell has only lost 1 game to Middlesboro. I am just going by what I have seen of Middlesboro last year and giving my assessment.

I agree there needs to be a coaching change at Middlesboro. Mboro has only beat Bell 1 time since Millett was the coach. Best I can remember when Millett was there they pretty much split with Bell almost every year, with 1 District Title. Bruner was before Millett and at the end of his run Bell was dominent(last 4/5 years). With Morris at Bell, Mboro better make a change quick or it will be another 10 years before Mboro wins.

  12. I agree with your post, BUT:

Don't underestimate Lynn Camp and say no way. They are a handful if they are hot. Gave KC fits after being down 23, cut it to 2 and had their chances to win, but the Momentum shifted with about 1:30 to go. Bell and the Cats both played similar games against Central. Do I think LC can win 3 in a row? Not likely. Do I think they can play at least one complete game? Yes. IF the Bobcats go in expecting to just stomp on the Wildcats, could be an interesting evening.

I agree! If Bell doesn't play hard with intensity on both ends of the floor they could get beat. Bell better not underestimate LC.

  13. O yeah this was definetly a great draw for Lynn Camp. Im predicting a Clay Co Vs South championship game.

Great draw for Bell, no way LC beats Bell (nothing aganist LC). Morris has done a great job at Bell this year and I don't see a let down vs LC. Bell will play very hard and very good defense. Corbin-South final, South wins again.
