  1. I tend to disagree with the comment that Greenup Co. has no guards since that is one of their strong points. They have point guard Prater back and their shooting guard Rees Justice is a fine prospect, one of the better shooters in the region. These 2 along with Williams, Lithcum, and Hampton will put them as one of the better teams in the region.

Prater has very limited experience. Starting only his second year of HS basketball. Justice is very limited in the athleticism dept....although he is a good shooter, it takes him too long to get his shot off.

What happens when they get pressed? Whose going to bring the ball up the floor and get them into an offense, one of their six centers?

But your right, they do have top five talent, but I think a very flawed roster with virtually no ball-handlers.

  2. I think the GC girls will be very competitive this year. They have nearly everyone back...plus a lot of young girls from the 7-9th grades that are NEARLY ready to compete at the high school level. Look for Coach Keeton and the relationships that he built through softball to carry on to the hard wood, with some additions to the roster. Should be a competitive 63rd District this year, I think all the teams are very even. Should be good for the Lady Musketeers.

  3. Heard just the other day that RH will be speaking with a potential coach this Wed...many things will have to fall into place to "nab" this coach...he's been in let's say, "semi-retirement" lately (by the way, he's not old, just been out of the profession for a while). This coach is an outstanding individual, probably as a good of a person as a coach. Good luck RH...I hope you find an outstanding christian to lead your program in the cut throat 16th region.

  4. to be 100% accurate...GC had "normal dates" with Elliott and West. The Elliott "normally" would be this Fri. and the West Carter date is usually under "normal" circumstances the last game of the year, senior night.

Both schools (Elliott and WC) wanted to change the dates and called GC to do so. GC obliged and changed the dates to early December (See GC v. Elliott Co. 12/1/2007) and West Carter to 1/12/2008.

When these changes were agreed to...The other dates were accidently not removed from the schedule when it went to print.

  5. this was not a cancellation...it was a misprint on some of the schedules that had been printed and passed out in the GC community...that is why it was announced at the game and why that all other schedules are correct (See the KHSAA schedule).

Also the same misprinted schedule had a West Carter date for February that is also misprinted...the WC game is this Sat.

  6. Success since he has left. I don't know how you measure success Zippi, but 0 District titles and 0 region titles and only 2 trips to the region as a runner-up. I measure success differently I guess.

    General,

the point I was trying to make is their is a regional championship and final four appearance before Ward, and yes, their has been a district championship since him (see 2006).

  7. Bath will be unquestionably a better job than GC. If you read Jesse Stuart’s book “The thread that runs so true”, you will see that Greenup County has been plagued for years. The only reason GC had a few good years in the 80’s and 90’s is they were fortunate to have enough talent to overcome the coaching and politics. I’m not knocking Coach Ward, as I think he was a very good defensive coach, but I didn’t enjoy falling asleep watching his offense work. He did win games….

I look forward to seeing Bath County start winning and being competitive in the 16th.

Good Luck to Hicks and the Bath County basketball team!

Slick, Slick, Slick...Greenup didn't have a few good years. 12 District Championships. 5 Regional Championships. 2 Elite eight appearance, and 1 final four appearances...that's tradition.

By the way General, Randy Ward doesn't have a monopoly on Greenup Co. basketball...there has been success since he has left (a little) and there will be more...patience.

  8. 16th While the whole area would like to forget about GC's problems we can't because they have not been concluded yet. Until the lawsuit is resolved the whole program is in limbo, I don't have a dog in the fight I still feel for the kids they are busting their tails and the results are not promising. Coach Leach may turn into a great coach but don't you build the system around the players, if you don't have the guns you don't try to outgun your opponents

What does a lawsuit have to do with this current team putting a ball in the basket and stopping the other team from doing the same?
