  1. What about Mark Cantrall? Former girls coach at Elliott County. Led them to thier first two Class "A" tournament championships, their first ever district championship, their first ever appearance in the 16th region tournament, and were runner-ups to Rowan County. If I remember correctly, his named was tossed around as a possible hire before Wooten was given the job. He could be a darkhorse candidate.

Seriously, things got tough this year and he ended up quiting at Elliott before the year was finished.

  2. Shot Clock NO, NO, NO-- that forces teams into shots which in turn ends up with kids that shouldnt be shooting to rush one up to beat the clock.. Esp. since not alot of high school have 5 kids capable of being a scorer on the floor like college does.

Instant replay-- I would say yes too only for buzzer beaters, fights, or flagrant fouls (lol Demarcus Cousin type elbows).. The state should require schools to put the Red LED light on the back boards, that could help alot

  3. In this week of the 62nd District Tournament I have witnessed a parent of another player flip off the opposing side, a 35+ year old women tear a team sign down put on the wall to designate seating arrangments and walk through the middle of the floor beating her chest and flashing the sign (she ended up tripping and falling while doing so) during a timeout, a 40+ man waving bye bye to a student section multiple times. Why don't adults come an watch and leave the taunting and childish actions up to the students and the student sections? Anyone seen anything else worse or to the same degree?

  4. Timmy is good, don't get me wrong. A performance he has had to do for the entire year in order for them to win. But against who? They didn't go to or play Mrytle Beach this year, All "A", Anderson County, Mason County, or Ballard. Megan "Penny" Gearheart won the Girls a few years back and in order to do so had to provide a resume that didn't consist of just scoring because kids all across the state put up big numbers either career or in a season year in and year out. She had to show that she could win after they won the state in her freshmen year and that was by winning districts, regions, EKC tournaments (with East as a top 10 state teams also), keep the team in the top ten every year, and going to Lexington and Bowling Green and performing against top ranked teams. Elliott lose to Logan County, East Carter twice, Ashland, Madison Southern, and Fairview. Last time I looked those aren't top teams in the state. Timmy is good, good for the 16th region. Next year maybe. But they have to play an extremely competivtive schedule and he has to prove himself by winning region and performing well at state. It's all about Publicity. Don't take this that I'm bashing Timmy he is a very skilled and amazing basketball player.

  5. Rayburn did return but was limited to playing time, Webb mentioned on the radio that they wanted to ease him back into action with minutes increasing every game. Heard through the grape vine that Brown had a little bit of a knee problem and is not due to be out long. Should be fun to watch when those two can get on the floor together at the same time with the rest of the Comets, West started out 4-2 with the full cast on the floor at the start of the year.

  6. Riley played last night for Lewis. Didn't start but played and was effective. And if you're talking about Terrence Smith, who was injured in an automobile accident, as I understand it, he will not play this season at all. Perhaps I'm mistaken. And truly a shame, he is a fantastic player.

That would be true about Smith saw him about a month ago an was still in a full neck and shoulder brace (not sure if it's off now though). My understanding is that his career is over on the ball floor. The kid was lucky to be alive and to be able to walk on his own two feet after that accident.

  7. With over 600 students they are far from an A school. The touchstone All A doesn't hold this tourney to just single A schools any more(although that was why it was started). It's all about making money.

For a school to be considered an All "A" school they count the number of students from freshmen to junior, if that number is under the required number then they qualify for All "A" for the upcoming school year... which is why schools like West Carter and Russell (esp. West) bounce back and forth from being All "A" or not... for the other comment made, Russell and West Carter have always been either 2A (past) or 3A (present) together even though West has been in the All "A" in the past for basketball... None of this class stuff makes any sense esp. since it qualifies schools for different things in different sports.
