  1. So, now that Perry Co. Central has have defeated Clay, I am guessing that NL has absolutely no hope of a playoff game. (I must say I truly question the officiating in this game.) It is virtually impossible, right? PCC now has 2 district wins, NL has 0. With PCC being the only district game the Jags have left on their schedule they are out.

What is up with PCC anyway, they get beat @ Hazard and @ LCC, both rather handily, then play host to Whitley & Clay and come away with 2 HUGE district wins?

  2. I'm confused by everyones assement of this offensive line then. The line is horrible when it comes to Wardup but they're fantastic when it comes to being able to allow running backs to run up the middle. If Wardrup is sacked then it's the O lines fault he's sacked, but if the running back has NO HOLE to run through thats their fault. There isn't any one thing wrong with this team, it's a combonation of many things but when a team is losing everyone starts to point at one thing and say thats the reason. This team doesn't have a Nik Balir and they sure don't have the line that allowed Nik to run it up the middle or even to the sides. EVERY run is up the middle unless they take Adrian to the outside to run...all I'm saying is run the ball to the outside SOME and that'll free up a little room in the middle if the defense has to guess where you're going to run it. The run calling is predictable, as well as every other call made.

AMEN!!! Preach it brother!!!!! Couldn't agree more. There is way too much petting and too many double standards on this team, and if you don't want to take my word for it, talk to the NL seniors, they will tell you without hesitation. The O line IMO has its flaws, but has many more positives than negatives.

  3. Turnovers, dropped passes, missed tackles, etc. just keep hurting the Jags. But the Maroons running/passing attack is packed to the brim, it's easy to see why they are undefeated. Good luck the rest of the season.

It was great to see Cam Cornett standing on the sidelines for a while tonight, thankful to see he is healing up and on the way to complete recovery.

  4. What does their schedule look like the rest of the season. I know we are 0-5. Next on our schedule is Henry Clay, Shelby Co. Open date, Scott Co. then North Laurel. It is very possible by the time we play NL we could be 0-8. Just wanted to know the possibilities of a win for them in the upcoming games.

They have Pulaski 9/28, @ Corbin 10/12, Perry Central 10/19, Clark County (senior night) 10/26, @ Leslie Co. 11/02.

  5. Looking at the roster for NL in the paper, they have a ton of kids playing. The Middle School program is very good as well. Also, looking at scores, they have been close w/ everone they've played, just can't close the deal. I think it was said in another thread that they seem to fade late in games. Are they not in good shape to play 4 Qtrs? Or, is it a mental breakdown late in the game? NL looks like they are on the verge of being a very good team, just need to put it all together.

They are usually a pretty good first half team, but costly turnovers keep the defense on the field way too long during the coarse of the game and towards the end of the 4th qtr., they are just spent. They should be in excellent shape as conditioning seems to be a priority on the coach's list. After talking to some of the players I think there is a lack of communication offensively with the players, but I don't know.

  6. What do you as fans of the Jaguars, and football fans in general think the Jaguars need to do to turn this season around? Their offense has spurts of greatness, but they just can't seem to keep things going. The defense which looked pretty tough the first few weeks has also seemed to start to fade away? Any thoughts, suggestions, etc. I just hate it for this group of young men, they work so hard and come so close, but it seems that the first win is always just out of reach. Now at 0-5 I'm afraid they have lost confidence in themselves.

  7. Regardless of the officiating, Whitley dominated the Jags from the get-go. Although the score was 14-13 at the half, North had basicly one drive and that was helped by a Whitley penalty (good call). Whitley was better defensively and offensivley. The best officials are the ones who you never notice during the course of the game. I thought that they called a very average game, which is not a bad thing. In the final analaysis I think that the kids settled the matter and not the officials.

    Boucher,

The Wardrup kid is an excellant QB, one who has poise and composure and plays well. At times he made some bad decisions on throws, but some he was just throwing it down field to avoid the sack. He is the guys who needs to run the offense, the other kid did not appear to have much of an arm, as his two passes were way off the mark. He is a tough kid, as he took a HARD lick from Whitley and was shaken up played the next series then went out for one series, the half ended and he came back in the secon half, showing some toughness. He would be a much better QB (like a lot of them) if his recievers caught all the catchable balls that they had. North dropped a possible TD pass on the first play of the game. I still think Whitley wins even if it goes, because North had ZERO rushing offense and that allowed Whitley pin thier ears back and go after Wardrup with abandon. Whitley was able to contain Wardrup's scrambling thus taking away part of his game, which again hurt the Jags. It appears that they need a QB coach to polish him, much like Randy Sanders polished Woodson. (I am in noway saying Wardrup is a Woodson). Till North develops some type of identity for their offense they are going to struggle. The good part is that they do play hard and have loads of potential.

"The other kid" as you call him, until Wardrup was injured Friday night has not taken a snap with the varsity Offense since another Wardrup "injury" for a few series early last season. The kid actually has a great arm and extremely good accuracy if you actually follow NL football you would know this, and he'd probably rather eat the ball than throw it down the field, up for grabs than to avoid the sack. But from what I hear he told Abbott months ago he wasn't interested in playing QB, heard he wanted to go out for receiver or something like that. I've been hounded by you guys on here for downing players, but I guess that only counts if it's me doing the hounding and not you. North was outplayed, out coached, and all together beat by a better team Friday night, I do agree with that.

  8. Well after the way LC went into the den and tamed the Tigers of Clay, I'll have to say NL has a lot of work to do. Hopefully, Cameron Cornett is back this week for NL and that's a big plus offensively. However, if the Jag offense cannot get something going I'm not sure if Cornett's return will be as big a help as some people have predicted. It's not just dropped passes that are hurting the Jags offensively, there are other factors that need worked on. Though I think it will be a tough game I have to stick with the Jags for the simple reason they NEED the Win, and these kids want it bad, they have really worked hard and feel they have one coming. Also hope to see the Jaguar Defense of the first few games make a re-appearance this week at Letcher.

    NL 17

    LC 14

  9. Three of the four officials which called the game Friday night are from Laurel County, and one from Whitley County. Now can there be any doubt as to the validity or honesty of the officiating? I think not. Those persons who might think calling a HS game is easy, well, let them go through the rigors of becoming qualified and call a few; then let's beat-up on the officials. I'm not saying all calls are 100% perfect. But as soon as I become 100% perfect, then I am going to really lay it on the officials. Calls during any game usually balance out as good calls v questionable calls. Let's keep the focus on the game play and execution, and be constructive; if nothing else, to set an example for the youngsters playing the game.

The only thing I agree with in your comment is what you stated about setting an example for the youngsters. I'm not going to argue over the way the game was called. I have my opinion, you have yours. However, this is a game about the players, not the alum, the officials, grudges, etc. And by the way, just because certain officials Friday night were from Laurel County in no way means they were pulling for the Jags. I wish Whitley County and North Laurel the best the rest of the season, good luck to both teams.

  10. I really dont know what game some of you watching. Whitley took control of the game the 2nd 1/2 and was trying to sub out until their Coach kept the 1st team in and on-side kicked and recovered. Black decided to go back to the 1st team Defense and the results were the same for the Jags, O points. Even after that Black went with his Freshmen Offense the last 5 minutes of the game to keep the score down. He could have kept the 1st team in and added at least 10 more points. Whitley was the one who faced the most adversity and overcame it, while I thought the Jags lost composure and focus. We can blame it on officiating all you want, but both sides were hindered by it. Whitley found a way to overcome it. I also thought Whitley surprised North with speed and quickness. Some one also mentioned how North mixed it up in the game, I believe they had 1 rushing attempt in the 2nd 1/2 not hard to figure out.

I'm in no way trying to take anything from Whitley Co., there's always a little home cooking wherever you go. I also agree that in the 2nd half NL's play calling was easy to figure out, however I feel they did do a few things differently in the 1st half. NL has got to get past their offensive woes and the Jag defense of the first 3 weeks needs to return.

I strongly disagree with your comment about NL losing composure and focus, those kids played their tails off the entire game.

By the way, WAY TO GO UK WILDCATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations Cats on the BIG win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Well, the game got a little to heated for me toward the end of the game. North fans basically calling for the refs heads by the end of the game. The North Laurel receivers beat Whitley county's secondary all night long but North either went to the run to much or the receivers would drop the passes, Whitley's run defense was awesome tonight though.

The North defense didn't seem like the same D that I've seen the last couple weeks. They couldn't seem to figure out that when Whitley put in #24 Labanon that he was running the ball and when #3 came in it was going to be a pass. I know they figured it out by the second half and then still couldn't really stop it. The North offense still struggled they only scored two touchdowns the whole game, Tyler Pennington took the first touchdown in off of a blocked field goal. I think IMO Adrian needs to learn when to eat the ball and just run, both INTs he threw were questionable throws on his part, but other than that he had a good game tonight throwing the ball.

Totally agree with everything you said. I thought this was one of if not the worst officiated games I have ever watched. However, on a positive note, IMO NL's offense showed just a little bit of variance in their play calling All in all, great game, my hats off to the Jags way to hang in there and play til the last play.

  12. I recall exactly which game you are talking about. That indeed was a memorable night with the comments directed right at him from one idiotic parent after a tough loss when he had the worst game he had ever played (and I had seen him play numerous times from middle school on). But it was only one who made those classless comments to a 16 year old kid and it was dealt with. The funny part was that the parent's child who was on that team, was upset and embarassed that his parent would make such a comment to one of his teammates. The very next week when he led NL in total yards and did his part to help his TEAM to the biggest upset in the state that season (per the Herald Leader) in the double OT win over Madison Central, that parent had absolutely nothing to say to him which tells me all I need to know about what kind of person would make such comments. But several other parents who learned what had happened, sought him out and gave him a lot of love.

I agree that Wardup has a lot of athletic ability, but the loss of Maggard and Asher from last year really hurt the Jags as they have very little running game right now besides Wardrup PLUS the loss of their #1 reciever Cornett from last season to a broken hand has left them shorthanded as well (but he will be back) However, there are a ton of young guys starting for these Jags and trust me, they will get better. The numbers are growing and they have a great frosh class. They will be a better team by season's end then they are right now. Mark it down! :thumb:

As far as your comments, here is an exact quote which infers more than just one person making one comment after one game, ...

Here's the point, only a few people around that incident you referred to actually saw or heard it, ... but a whole lot of people on here read all the negative remarks about a kid, .. including the kids. Just be a little more considerate of the kids involved in these sports. That is all I would ask. :thumb:

I absolutely will be more considerate of the athletes and I am deeply sorry to any of you whom I have offended with my wide open opinions. I know all these kids work their tails off and absolutely do not deserve to have people say or type things about them like I have posted and I am truly sorry, I can promise you it won't happen anymore.

  13. I did not say that Stuber was bashed or talked about on this site nor did I mean him any disrespect. I was at a game one night when a parent actually got in the kids face and talked bad to him. I was talking more about the talk from fans and such. Anyway I will leave the QB's alone. I think Wardrup is talented tons and has progressed and matured since last season. Good luck Jags!!!!

  14. Just a question or opinion. A few years ago NL had a QB named Stuber. The win/loss record was 3-7 the last two years I think. Anyway all you heard was how bad a QB Stuber was, yet the losses were always only by a TD or less. How is it that the Stuber kid got blamed for the losses and even ended up not playing at all his senior year and now we have kind of the same situation; a QB that has potential but way too many turnovers, a 3-7 record last year and so far an 0-3 record this year but everyone but the QB is sharing the blame? Don't get me wrong Wardrup does not deserve all the blame or even most of the blame, but some of this offense's woes are linked to him.
