  1. So you're saying they should've left a sideline uncovered? That would've been interesting for spots, eligible/ineligible receivers, etc.

I was saying that was bad that they had to move the Back Judge in considering how much Conner throws. Refering to the crew being short handed in a pass happy game. If they were short handed in the 3 yard and a cloud of dust days it would have been not such a big deal. You can never justify leaving the sidelines uncovered. Unfortunatley schools won't pay for a back up official for reasons like this. But you also have to realize without that extra set of eyes calls made by the Back Judge will go unnoticed.

  2. I think it was a combination of laziness, and them being very bad. I noticed the officials seemed to miss tons of calls, make several mistakes regarding spotting of the ball, etc.. Also the white hat went down with injury, and they didn't replace him. They went with no back judge, strange to me. That pass interference that was called near the goal line may have been one of the few they got RIGHT all evening.

Clyde, I was asking myself during the game why the other pass interference wasn't an automatic 1st down, because I was sure that it was supposed to be.

How far into the game did the white hat go down? If they moved the back judge in, then that was bad considering how much Conner wings it.

  3. Now you "Cross backs" are ticking me off. This post is total bull and I am not going to let you guys take your disaster of a season out on us. As wild as HC MAN's comments are, at least he is focused on his team and wants to do better. He isn't on here pointing fingers elsewhere and making crazy allegations. Just to be clear, what you allege above is bull and the attacks on Brilz are too. Let's talk about the game.

even though Cross Backs is in quotations, isn't this a kind of bigotted attack, similar to using a racial or predjudiced word or term? I don't particullary care for the language mister. If you were Jewish would it be ok for me to call you something derogatory? There has to be some validity with these accusations if multiple people are bringing it up.

As for the game, HC is grossly undermanned and will be lucky to get out of the 1st round. Beechwood only attempted two passes? They will need to pass more if they want to get out of the region with all the injuries they have encountered.

  4. Coming from a hugely reliable source that was at the game, in the stands, Kozerski was quite upset at what he percieved as Beechwood players throwing low blows in the pile. This comes from a source that has zero ties to either team. My source told me that he's heard of this going on with the Beechwood players in years past as well. I trust my source 100% with anything.

  5. You are preaching to the choir. The enquirer prep coverage was below the Post's in my opinion since I started reading the paper in the early 90's. The higher ups at the Enquirer will never spend the money on prep sports coverage in my opinion. Just another excuse to save money. Buying an Enquirer anymore is like buying a periodical more than anything. Feel bad the Richard Skinner has to get on BGP to tell people it was a mistake.

  6. Nardo is right if you coach at BW 7th and 8th grade or freshmen if you are not playing are expected to go to the games. I love to see a school that has alot of coaches that should tell you something about the school, coaching staff and program. Now for Coach Brilz he is a protector and if one of his players is being mistreated or feel's one is in harms way you bet your sweet - - - he is going to be in your face. I can say that about the whole BW staff don't back them into a corner they will protect their players. Great comments by quickslick another class act. Great job TIGER players & coaches. JD

If the so call Brilz v Koz incident happened during an injury timeout (assuming the player hurt was on the field), why was Brilz (an assistant coach) on the field? The only people on the field should be the trainer the players and the head coach(s). An asst. coach should not be close enough to talk to the opposing head coach.

  7. veteran NFL officials make enough off of the NFL to live comfortablly and support a stay at home mom. Most of these officials likewise have jobs that allow them to be gone 2-3 days a week or more (if needed) i.e. Lawyers, doctors self-employed etc. Officials want to keep thier current pension plan plus they want a raise, due to the fact that they will be held partially responsible when a player has a concussion and stays in the game. They are in fact being asked to be on the field doctors and officials. I can't blame them with all the lawsuits going on these days. The owners don't want the officials to keep thier pension seeing as how they are classified part time, and the owners own part time employees do not have a pension plan in place. I side with the officials on this one.

Speaking of officials i can't help but notice the vast difference in physical shape of the replacement refs vs. the regular officials.

  8. Never have I seen a coach at any level try and run a score up like I seen tonite. I feel for those kids, on both sides. The ones from CCH that didn't get in the game and the kids from Dixie that had to suffer through it.

Again people like Lionscoach is what is wrong with today's sports. Everyone gets there feelings hurt. 40-0 is hardly running up the score. They scored 6 TD's. What are the kids from CovCath to do? Lay down or let Dixie score so they feel better about themselves? Give me a break, if you want the score to be closer then stop the other team, or score some points on your own.

  9. This may be one of the most rediculous post I have ever seen. None of Spritzky's teams ever got beat like this by Cov. Cath. The mindset coach Spritzky instilled was one that proved Dixie could beat anyone backed up by the fact he coached teams that beat Trinity, Highlands, and has multiple wins over Cov. Cath. (Unheard of by a Dixie coach). People that make comments like this don't realize it is way more about jimmy and joe than it is about x's and o's. Dixie just doesn't have the talent right now to beat Cov. Cath. They should not be trying to 2 platoon in my opinion they simply don't have the numbers or talent to do it right now.

Coach Spritzky was my coach and I can guarantee anyone who felt he or Sorrell played favorites were not good enough to play so they or their parents had to have some excuse. I challenge you to find another NKY coach who has ever beat Trinity in the playoffs. I guess they just got lucky.

It appears I have struck a nerve. I would call beating Trinity fortunate not luck. You beat them fair and square. But no way you can tell me that Spritzky couldn't have been more succesful had he been more tough on his players and emphasized conditioning more.

  10. There is a culture at Dixie that is going to take years to change. Brossart is a good coach and he'll get it turned around in time.

Culture is a good word, but tradition might be a better word. You may not have the best talent or the best players but coaching can overcome those most times. The tradition of being almost afraid to make your players mad at you has set Dixie back years. A coach that does not play favorites and pushes his players to the max is what they will need for years to change the mindset instilled during the Spritzky/Sorrell years.

  11. FINAL 63-14. Note to ESPN family of networks: The next time you want to show Kentucky high school football....show Trinity!

Currently watching the game (I DVR'd it), can't help but notice that LC is killing itself with turnovers. Also saw a play where a player for LC makes a tackle for a one yard loss a tugs on his jersey to make it seems like they are dominating while they are in fact down 14-0 in the first. Also on Ensworths 2nd TD drive the running back was called out at the 30 when he should have had a td run, you can see an LC asst. coach point to the sideline then the offcial blows it dead. Replay clearly shows he was not out of bounds. Poor showing thus far by the Ky team and officials.

  12. After sitting in road construction in Indy for an hour, drove like a madman to make the game on time.

Ive been to lots of high school games, but last night I saw something I've never seen before.

The head coach for SC walked down the sideline to talk to one of his LB's after the play on JH's TD in the south endzone. The coach was screaming at the player at the top of his lungs. I was three quarters of the way in the bleechers and heard him plain as can be. The player was slowly walking to the sideline and the head coach started yelling at the player from the 20 yard line to the bench area at the 50 yard line. When the player stood at the 50 the coach, still yelling, went on yelling nose to nose for another minute.

So, my question is, where do coaches draw the line when the player makes a mistake on the field, to me, the coach didn't do anything but humiliate the player right in front of everyone in the bleechers.

Scott County has lots of play makers and talent, but I don'tthink the coaches know what to do with it.

Awww boo-hoo. Some coaches yell and some calmly coach. When are we going to stop babying todays players? You think coaches don't use these tactics in college? At the NAIA/D3 level. It only gets worse the further along you play. Football is a tough game played by tough people, coached by tough minded people.

  13. Glad I chose another game to go to this evening. I don't know how Scott Co. deserved so much hype. You may hate his guts but Dale Mueller can flat out coach, and you can never accuse his players of being "gassed". There should never be any excuse for players being gassed in a game. You may not be a good coach or your players are just outmanned, but you can always run and do conditioning drills to the point your football players are the most fit people in your school. With Mueller at the helm and with Ky's stupid 6 classes Highlands will only lose by beating themselves, and good luck there.

  14. Folks, I share your disappointment in hwo the Enquirer covers Northern Kentucky. The timeliness of online posts is not very timely and overall there needs to be more, more, more. For the record last week we did an advance on the Showdown games, an advance on Highlands-Boyle and capsules of the top 10 games of the week, then covered three games on Friday and then this week added a Tuesday football notebook. If I had my druthers we would have a football element a day (feature story, notebook, advance or game coverage) and cover either a volleyball or soccer game a day (or have a feature story or notebook) as well, but alas the budget doesn't allow that. That being said I would hope you target any complaints you have to the following:

    Publisher Margaret Buchanan: publisher@enquirer.com

    Editor Carolyn Washburn: cwashburn@enquirer.com

    Sports Editor Angel Rodgriguez: arodriguez@enquirer.com

The squeaky wheel gets the oil and unless they know you care enough to complain, they unfortunately assume you aren't out there (which as Northern Kentuckian I know isn't true, but "they" don't always know that).

Mr. Skinner I have nothing but respect for you, Ryan Ernst and Certainlly Terry Boehmker did and does for NKY prep sports. But the enquirer's depth of coverage is no near on par as the Post was. I've emailed the proper Enquirer personel four times to be exact and was told thank you for your concern and they were constantly working on improving the paper.

  15. I have been asking myself this questin for a few years now. When NKY had both the Post and the Enquirer, the Post out did the Enquirer in prep coverage. In my opinion the only time the Enquirer had good prep coverage was on Sundays, when the Post did not publish a paper. Now with the Post kaput for how many years now, you would think the Enquirer would improve its coverage. Instead it seems they have almost gotten even mor lax on their coverage on both sides of the river. Newark fan is the reason for this thread, asking for prep previews, hopefully no one wasted their time and money or his time in sending him the Enquirer's prep preview. It seems the Enquirer is putting as little money, time, and effort behind prep sports in our region.
