I'll have to go with Kasey, anyone who can have that kind of performance on a torn up knee gets my vote. Also, the whole Russell D should get the MVP, I believe they only gave up 40 yards to Mercer in the second half.

I'm not saying the weather didn't hurt Mercer, but they seemed to be running just fine, you know they had tight hamstrings? It's cold for everybody.. The wind took away 1/3 of Russell's offense. Mercer doesn't pass the ball.

Why is Commonwealth not suitable? Lexington is more centrally located to the rest of the state, I think having it there would raise attendance. I know alot of people who don't goto the games, because they don't enjoy going to Louisville.

I was clearly wrong about Russell. I thought Mercer would blow them out, but Mercer was able to win against the hardest opponent that they had all year. Great game played by both teams and the defense by both teams was amazing. Mercer's defense ended up being the difference in the outcome instead of the offense and that was quite a change for Mercer. I was very impressed with Clark and Wills and the size of Russell's offensive and defensive lines. Mercer has not played a tougher opponent on the line of scrimmage. The offensive line for Mercer could not hold blocks against those guys which severely hurt the explosive running offense that Mercer has. I have every reason to believe that if Russell had gone down the field to kick a field goal to tie the game that would have won in overtime. Fortunately for Mercer they got the turnovers when they needed them to stop Russell. I was puzzled why Russell didn't just go to Clark on every play. It seemed as though he couldn't be stopped. Once again, congrats to Mercer for winning their first state championship. Maybe at some point they can begin a home and home series with Russell so we can continue to see great games between these two teams.

 

I also think the weather played a part in this game. The cold windy weather seemed to help Russell more so than Mercer. Just my opinion though.

I don't think the cold was much of a factor, the players weren't feeling it after the first minute of play. The wind took Russell's passing game away, Mercer didn't have a passing game(10 passes in 14 games I believe), So I'm gonna have to go with the weather helped Mercer.

I can see an argument for forward progress being stopped, but just watched the replay and he DID get the ball stretched out over the goal line, where it was consequently batted directly down beside #75 who was laying in the endzone and just gathered it in.

Maybe shouldn't have been ruled a fumble after all.

I have nothing to say but 3 Private schools win, and in 2A, a team that is twice 2A wins, KHSAA might as well not even exist. Give examples of what good they do?

Has anyone congratulated Rusell on being the best 2A team in the state? Mercer may have won, barely, 2td's each team. Point afters were huge. Great game Russell, Ive never been prouder of a Russell team.

Will any team from the west ever win a Championship in 3A? Hard for me to see that happening.

Yeah I felt bad for Tyler, it had to be tough throwing passes in that kind of wind. The wind was blowing so hard that sometimes the refs had to hold the ball for the center so it didnt blow away.

I heard that the basketball teams will not be consolidated. Is this true?

Anyone know Mercer's rushing total for the 2nd half? Russell seemed to move the ball well in the 3rd quarter, they got inside Mercer's 30 a couple of times but could never finish it off. Terrific D by both teams, Russell really impressed me, they gave up 2 big plays, but shut Mercer down other than that.

Boyle beat Russell 34-6 on their way to the 1999 AA title. If you include Danville, you have to include Boyle.

 

For what its worth many of those teams are west in the way that KY was "the west" in the days of Daniel Boone.

Yeah I was at that one, didn't think Boyle was a passing team, till that game.

I wish Russell would have picked up the LC game, instead of Lawrence or even Raceland, the 2000 game was great.

Boyle Co. did it for awhile, they moved up to 3A and won 3 straight if my memory serves me right.

Most of those games haven't been played in decades.

Well after reading all of these, Im gonna need a snow mobile, umbrella, golashes, tanktop, sunscreen, boat, windbreaker, ski gear. I can't bring all of these to the game, I have a camry, 4 door.

We get kinda tired of the merge getting shoved down our throats. We know it's an advantage. We aren't alone in this state with that regard. It's the people that keep saying that it isnt Mercer's fault it's the KHSAA or the ones that say it was done for athletics. Now that's a shot at our school and I'm not just going to take that without a reply. Yeah we are a little arrogant but that's been slowly brought out all year. It's in overdrive now that it's title week. All year people on here were like wait till you get deep into the playoffs and you will see those blowouts will stop. Well they didn't up til this point and people realize how much better this team is then everyone they've played. We get tired of the garbage too!

Reggie Bush has 4.5 speed? Hes a lil faster than that buddy.

Not by much, he runs about a 4.4, I think at nfldraftscout.com he is listed at 4.37.

Our semi-final losses don't come to teams from the west, I believe 2 of the AAA semi-final losses were to Highlands, I dont consider them a western team. The rest I would say are from SE mountain teams.

How much football do you watch? A 14-15 pt. game means if the ball would have bounced a little differently here and there for the opposite team, it could be a different ballgame.

Why does last yrs game even matter? The game was over mid 3rd qtr. They scored two td's late in the 4th, with Varsity vs JV. That was last year, they have older kids and new kids. This should be a fun game to watch. Last year's game has no effect of this years game. IF you go by the recent 6 or 7 year history, this shouldn't even be a game, but I think it will probably be the best one to watch at State. I think the other games will be completely one sided, 1A has a chance to be good.

I agree with the strength of schedule argument, but it also punishes a kid like Kasey, the KHSAA made us play 7 (can't think of a word without offending someone) teams, in comparison to those that are in the final 8. He could be somewhere around 3000yds all purpose and 80td's this season, but sometimes he only got a handful or rushes in a game, and would still get 5 td's. Im rooting for him, but I believe with the tough defenses we've played, and with them putting 9-10 guys in the box, his stats from the last 2 games will hurt. Good Luck to all.
