  1. The 13th is in the same boat as the 15th. They are struggling and no one wants to change with them. Maybe they will change with each other or just stay in this year. I hate seeing the same referees in the region, love to see them switch with someone else. I think the 14th and 12th are exchanging again.

I feel sorry for anyone that gets the 12th officials. Not all are bad, but the ones that are are beyond horrible and give them all a bad name. I agree with what someone said earlier, refs keep your head in the game and stop paying attention to the ones in the stands, that might help you make the right calls and keep the ones in the stands happier. :thumb:

  2. If you would have asked me this time last year what my prediction of the outcome of the game was going to be i would have said Southwestern by 20+ but after seeing both teams play so far this season. I still expect Southwestern to win this one, but i do look for it to be a close game.. Coach Daniels has brought a completely new style of play to the team, and have impressed me in their first two games.. i'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out..

  3. Some of our players went to watch the final championship game. Somerset's name was never mentioned during the awards presentation for the All Region Team. For those who are responsible for scheduling the 12th region tournament in the future, please take note and learn from this past year's mistakes and make sure they don't happen to other teams and just an afterthought, try to find a place to host that at least have real restrooms (the portables ones are just nasty).

  4. I think you mean Chris Fitzpatrick. The home plate umpire went beyond terrible. The 6th inning should have ended 6-4, Price was dead on in the umpire's strike zone that night, we know he had three strikes on the two that finally got hits. Our catcher knew it too, that's why he was thrown out of the game. (Mercer's boys threw bats from the very first play of the game). Then there was the so called balk that gave Mercer another run, Somerset kept trying to fight back, our boys never gave up that night. Like I have said, it was just a shame for everyone involved. It is a fact, someone will win, someone will lose-it's just unexcusable when it comes down to bad calls that make that decision in a Region baseball game.

  5. Oh my I really don't want to get started again about the whole experience Somerset had in this tournament. It was quite obvious that night what was going on; this only proves it to the ones that tried to justify otherwise. It just leaves a bad taste is all I will say.

  6. After watching the game last night, I'm thinking it's a much better way to have a tournament. The officials are there to call the game, they are unbiased and don't know one team, player or coach from any other. My son is a senior, so we are finished with high school sports. I can't say I will miss all of it, but I am so proud of all our seniors. They represented Somerset with class all the years I've watched them play. Best of luck to all the future Somerset teams.:thumb:

  7. Like you said Joe, you weren't at the game. I take nothing away from Mercer or their seniors. This was a Region ballgame, having a consistent and fair called game is not too much to ever ask. Don't cast judgement on someone else when you weren't even at the game and then say that's what makes someone look bad, come on now.

  8. Victory isn't the first word that comes to my mind after having to sit thru one of the worst officiated games in all the years my son has been playing baseball. Mercer came away with a win, but it's not one they can be very proud of. What a shame so many seniors who've worked so hard to have their high school career end that way.

  9. It looks like Somerset may have bit off more than they can chew with that schedule. What was Grundy thinking. I know that Somerset is pretty good, but Dunbar, Lafayette, LCA, Henry Clay, Greenup, West Jessamine all on the road. That is a really tough schedule!! I know that they want to play a good schedule, but that is out of control. They played poor defense over here, but still hit Tanner Perkins better than anyone else has this season. Take a lesson and schedule a little softer and in your Region a few times and get a few Wins.

Scheduling Tough teams like this can only help you.. there still 10-7 an yeah they havent played great baseball yet, but Somerset has all the potential to be one of the best teams in the state, its up to them whether they become one of the best teams, but playing the best competition is only going to help..

  10.

After Somerset had just beat Greenup County in 12 innings they had to turn right around and play another game. They lost by 2 runs, not to shabby seeing as they had played baseball for a little over 6 hours straight. They are struggling with a few injuries and illness right now but they will go far this season. :thumb:

  11. Since theGuru closed the previous thread and says we can't use the "name" of a certain player from Mason", I wanted to start another one to get my question answered.

My previous question was can anyone show the excerpts from the KHSAA rule book regarding the action that this "un-named" player took in the semi-final game? I would like to see the specifics that they based their decision on.

Not sure the situation in this one, but I know Somerset had a similar altercation earlier in the season and the boy that came off the bench(who did not throw a punch or anything just got off the bench) was not able to play the next game..

  12. Are you kidding? I guess that could be true for any team. If we just had......

Looking at scores, Lincoln looks to be about 30 points better so you better make sure that point guard your talking about can shoot the three. Lincoln clearly brings it in the 2nd half .

Congratulations and good luck at state to the PATS.

Thats why you dont go by scores! Because,, Somerset gave Lincoln all they wanted earlier in the season but the final score was Lincoln by 13.. IMO I think what Slink is saying is that if Somerset had a point guard that could bring the ball up the court and run an offense it would allow Price to go back to running the 2 or 3 which was his normal position up untill this season.. With Price having to play out of position and be the point guard this season it has forced everyone's role to change, which in return highlighted some of the weaknesses of the Jumpers.. And had Coach Thacker been able to play Price at the wing I do believe the Jumpers would have been an all-around better team.. Although I do think Price has done an excellent job at the PG position considering he'd never been asked to handle the ball up untill this year..

Congrats on a great season Somerset, we'll miss all 10 seniors next year

  13. Spin, spin, spin...

By the way, where does the starting QB from Somerset's '07 football team live?

Take him off the team & SHS wins 4 games MAX! Where do more than 1 of your basketball players live? I'll give you a hint... NOT in the city! Let's not even get into the middle school kids who make up the better part of the basketball, baseball, & football teams. We can even talk about the girls team with certain starters living in the county. So, YES Pulaski County helps Somerset a lot more than some Somerset fans are willing to admit. Do away with the tuition list & Somerset would struggle to compete with the all A schools, let alone the rest of the region.

There is only one player for Somersets varsity basketball team that lives outside the city!! So take that one player away and Somerset still competes just fine in the region and most definetely still wins the All A Region..

That Quarterback your talking about has been in the Somerset school system since first grade!

  14. I was simply responding to a previous comment about "no love for the Jumpers." This thread is essentially picking the regional champion. Nobody was picking Somerset because they struggled to beat Rockcastle County and then were absolutely handled (and scored 36 points) against Pulaski County. That doesn't make them a bad team. It simply means that the way they are currently playing (6 losses in 9 games) makes them shaky heading into the tournament.

I do apologize.. I believe I took that comment the wrong way, it was very late when i read the post and I dont think I realized what the discussion was really about..

We have lost several of late so you are right, who is going to pick a team that is in a slump.. But, I wouldnt count them out just yet..

  15. They made it to the Region, that's more than most of the other teams can say. Give it a rest, if you can't say anything positive than why say anything at all?? I don't see any reasoning with negative people. GO JUMPERS, we would love to see them in the finals, but either way, we're glad they are in the region tournament.

  16. Past history; I'm a PC graduate-things happened in the 80's and things have happened in recent years-I was referring to the motto I've always heard, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. I was setting the record straight about Somerset's basketball team. (IMO)Feel free to drive thru the city limits and you will see many more of those "little bunny ears"; our seniors are very proud of them;they represent lots of dedication and hard work.

  17. As this is the Basketball thread, I am referring to the basketball team. One pays tuition on the team. The other team members all live in the city and have always gone to school together. You can rest assured that Pulaski BOE monitors this list very closely.....if I were a Pulaski fan, i would be very careful about what I said about bringing in others out of district/county to play athletics.

  18. Let me put it this way.

Swap out Thacker and the Monticello coach and see what happens. Somerset has enough talent and athletes to compete with anyone in the 12th, and they're consistently rated in the top half of region during the preseason. However, after a good start, Thacker's teams usually sputter and fail to post anything in the postseason. I bet you can put Shultz in at Somerset and he would have them in not only in the region tournament every year, but competing for the title.

Monticello and Somerset are both 1A schools, enrollment wise. But everyone knows in this region that Somerset has more basketball players and athletes than Monticello could imagine. And many times, Somerset has more players and athletes than the bigger schools (Southwestern, McCreary, Wayne, Pulaski, Casey, Rockcastle).

If thats how you feel then I guess Coach Jones should be in the same boat.. Atleast Thacker has gotten his team to the region the past couple years.. Maybe if we sent Thacker to MC then he'd at least get them to the region?

And I'm pretty sure Somerset is competing for the title this year, they're one of eight teams left..
