  1. Let me see if I can make it a little easier for you to understand cootyb25. Let’s say hypothetically, a player from Boone Co. went to a NAIA Div.II school to play basketball. If someone then posted on BGP, something idiotic like, “this was the best she could do, because she wasn’t talented enough to play DI or DII.” Would you think that fair cootyb25?

As others have posted, it is no shame in playing below DI. Lots of kids choose to play below DI for a variety of reasons. I just have a problem with you making the statement, “You are talking division I for Jayme and division III or maybe divison II at best for Allison at this point.” That is a disparaging remark, whether you realize it or not.

I listed your previous post about Conner to point out that you were dead wrong about Conner. Yes, I took everything you wrote then about Conner and now about Allison personally. You can write a lot of things from now on, but you can never take away their championship season. They showed all their doubters! You can also try to demean Allison all you want, but that only makes her stronger. She is an amazing player and an amazing daughter.

Lastly, look at my posts all you want, but you won’t find negative posts from me. I don’t single out teams as not being able to win and I don’t name specific players as not being talented enough. ;)

I think you have the advantage of knowing who I am because your hypothetical question and your other post suggests you are refering to my daughter. I will be the first to admit along with her that divison II would have been the best she could have done. NAIA divison II was the perfect fit for her and her education and to say that I am dispariging a player when I said she will be able to play at the next level is ludicrous. I do not know Allison or Jaymie but I do know basketball talent and the original question was does Allison remind anyone of Jaymie. So take your championship and be proud of it and quit trying to make something up that is not there.

  2. Sounds like you are the DI expert cootyb25. You know, I have always heard that if a player can only shoot from the outside, and they just don’t have any moves to the basket, it can prevent them from getting a DI scholarship. Would you agree cb25?

I’ve been reading some of your other posts. Back in July you wrote, “I see it as Boone, Highlands, and NCC with ND knocking on the door. Conner has some good players but other than Hodges I see no other rebounders. and once again they will get hurt by bigger teams in the paint. Long and Beasley will be pressed from the minute they leave the locker room. How they handle that will determine how far they go.”

•You gave Conner no chance to win the region…..hmm.

•You recognized that big girls would be a challenge for Conner. However, you underestimated Gela Haynes, Jordan Kremer, and Sammy Johns, helping Stephanie Hodges play great team defense in the paint.

•You thought all the teams would press Conner. You were half right on that one. Most teams did press Conner the first half of the season. After they realized that wasn’t very effective, teams didn't press so much.

    :D

Sounds like you have something personal in this. What does driving to the basket and only shooting from the outside have to do with anything that I wrote. I think if I had nothing better to do than to go back and check all your posts for prediction accuracy I would be able to write a few things on here also. Not once did I disparage Allison or Conner. IMO I wrote she is not on the same level as Jaymie at this point in her career, and at this point D-I would be a stretch. But hey only time will tell and then you can go back and check my posts and let me know how I did.

  3. I got a question does anyone think that Allison Long reminds you of old New Cath star Jayme Theim?

I don't think I would say old New Cath star she is still playing college ball at TMC. To answer your question Jayme was much better at this point in their carreers. You are talking division I for Jayme and division III or maybe divison II at best for Allison at this point. Jayme could take over a game by herself Allison is not there yet. Their athleticism is not even close, But that is just my opinion.

  4. Boone is very impressive but they rely heavily on Behrens. Also Bradley seems to crumble under pressure sometimes when Boone is losing. NDA is very good. But I think Conner is very capable of making it to the finals and winning and I think they will do so. Hodges is a very strong inside force and Long runs the point very well. If they can get past Highland then I see them facing Boone is the finals.

Beasley runs the point at Conner. As far as Bradley crumbling under pressure, you must not watch very many games. If I am a Ky coach and down to the last posession I think I would take bradley hands down to either score or make the good pass. I think what you are refering to when you say crumble is she tries to be the leader and when things don't work out the leader is the one who takes the hit as it should be, but I think she has pulled alot more games out of the fire than you give her credit for. Just watching her this year she has matured immensely and guess what you get to watch her next year also. I don't envy any point guard who has to handle her one on one because you will be in for a long night.

  5. BS - your motive is obvious...it's extremely tough to compete with the Lexington and Louisville programs for many reasons. Go on the girl's scoreboard and pull up past years. You will see that BC schedules brutal every year and dodges no one. They lost 6 of their top 8 players from last year including two potential D1 post players (6'2" & 6'3"). Her roster includes 10 soph's & Fresh and only 2 player's with major varsity minutes. She could have opted out, but still competed in the LexCath Christmas tournament. They went 3-1 only losing to Sacred Heart by 1pt on a last second shot. In Nov, she decided to have a one day event as a fundraiser for a local family. She made calls to Dunbar, Manual, Fern Creek, Madison Central, and they all immediately accepted. That's respect!

So you are aware, LexCath begged her for weeks to take their vacant HC job. She finally told them that she is loyal to the BC program and a state championship at another program at this point in her career would be hollow. She recommended their current coach and he got the job. That's respect! By looking at your previous posts you appear to be a Ryle fan. Since you are new you may not be aware, but Coach Fookes brought Coach Olivero with her to Boone...out of loyalty! At Christmas, the player's presented a check (a large portion of their fundraising money) to a former player with breast cancer...that's loyalty! These examples are why parents love being part of her program and can overlook that sideline antics...they know!

With this roster, she has probably done the best coaching job of her career, but she will be overlooked as COY. Behrens has played phenomenal this season, but I bet she gets overlooked as POY. All because of the expectation's every year.

You may not like Coach Fookes' style or her success, but what she has done for Girl's Bball has earned respect.

Amen crunch time. I have known Nell a long time and anyone who has been associtated with her would agree whole heartedly. Its the people who only see her on the sidelines or in passing that make those comments about her as a coach and an individual. My daughter played for Nell for 4 years and would not change those years for anything. It prepared her for college basketball, which she is doing just fine, and made her a better person.

Boone's schedule every year is no doubt one of the toughest in the State she dodges no one and tries to get her girls ready for the regional every year no matter who she has on the roster. Winning the region this year would be something after losing all the players she did to graduation and transfer, but she still has 2 of the best in the region so watch out 9th her she comes.

  6. What does anyone think about Maggie Prewitt from Montgomery County. She is a terrific player and very unselfish. She might not have all the numbers that alot of the other girls have but she is a team player and does pass the ball. She does not try to get all the glory like alot of the front runners do. She tries to do what it takes to help her team to win. She gets my vote.

You are not getting the gist of Miss Basketball then. It is the best player in the state period. Not who helps their team win, or who is the nicest, or plays good defense. THE BEST PLAYER. I agree that Novosel is a great player but I think she still falls behind Reid in overall talent. I am not disparaging any of the girls who get nominated and there are some great talents out there but if Reid does not win then Miss Basketball is not truely the best player in the State and is a popularity contest. Everyone who has been mentioned I have seen personally play and I am not from Fern Creek either so this is not a biased opinion just my humble opinion.

  7. Why is DeSarae Chambers for Mason County not being considered. She has 2900 points over 1000 rebounds and very much gerts her team mates involved. She has also signed D1 with Dayton. I have not seen Reid play but have seen Novosel play three times and I would not trade Chambers for Novosel. Lets hear some reasons?

I have seen both play and they are not in the same category right now. Reid can dominate a game by herself Chambers can not. Not that Chambers is by no means not a top player Reid is just above that at this point in their careers. I can't see any other player in the state being able to dominate a game like Reid can. When I say dominate it is not against the lesser players she would dominate the best in Kentucky.

  8. I think in the 8th Carroll and Owen should at least be in the 60's if Ludlow is.

Either the 9th is over rated or 8th is underrated. I think Holy Cross is fine at it's rating.

Really does not matter though..in the long run.

How do you get that the 9th is overrated. Boone beat both Simon Kenton and Shelby County from the 8th but are still lower than Simon Kenton.

  9. I would like to clear some misconceptions up. First, the Boone County Middle School league is nothing like intramurals. In intramurals, students play within their own school. The Boone Middle Schools play interscholastic basketball, which IMO is a very tough league to play in. My school has played a few of the other schools outside of the conference and defeated them, i.e. Campbell County, who is supposed to be very tough in their respective league, yet we are at the bottom of the standings in the Boone league. So, from what I have seen, the level of talent and play in Boone County Middle Schools is very high compared to some other leagues around here.

Second, there is no rule that states that middle school players in Boone County can't play high school. The actual rule is that if a player chooses to play high school basketball, they are not eligible for the middle school conference games or tournament. The reason for this rule is probably so that girls who move up to play high school don't come back to the middle school to play in the tournament. However, the choice is left up to the high school coach, parents, and the player.

I have known two girls to be asked by a high school coach to play up, and neither chose to do it because they would get more playing time at the middle school level and they wanted to play with their friends. One is still playing in high school and having a great career and the other is on full basketball scholarship and starting as a freshman on their college team. Please keep in mind that these decisions are not made lightly and are made in the best interest of the player. The decisions are not made so that middle school teams can win a tournament!

I don't know if you are talking about my daughter but she was asked to play up when she was in the 8th grade but decided to stay and try to win the 8th grade tournament with the girls she had been playing with for 3 years. She felt she owed her school, coach and friends that much. Looking back I think she might have been better served moving up but we let her make that decision and she is starting as a freshman on a full ride scholarship so I think it worked out fine for her.

  10. My original beef is not about wins and losses in the 9th it was when you said the 9th is lacking in talent and has been for the past few years. I said I would be willing to bet the 9th has as many or maybe more girls playing college basketball than any other region in Ky. We just have not had the superstars. We will not have as many playing divison 1 but the other divisons will be comparable. Now go a head and give me your observation on that.

  11. Guys , this is what girls basketball has come to . The coaching the refs is just BAD I cannot watch it no more .Its :scared::scared:

for someone who bad mouths NKY girls basketball you sure do know alot of the players and evidently see pretty many games. Sounds more like jealousy from someone who never make it for whatever reason.

Highlands does have a good team but I think they were taken lightly last year since they were so young. this year no one is making that mistake so they will find that every game they are getting a team that is prepared for them.

  12. Steelers you only print these things to get a rise out of people. You say the

9th region has been down the past few years but I would be willing to bet they have as many or more girls playing college basketball than any other region. They may have not had any superstars lately but as a whole have been as good as any other region from top to bottom.

On a side note I agree Monique Reid is the best in the state right now.

  13. I'm not putting Conley down whatsoever she is a very good player, but I wholeheartedly disagree with you. I don't think she is the best ball handler or defender and I think Coach Stowers should have made a change and was just outcoached. It would surprise me if Fookes would have moved Bradley over to guard Tolliver. BC doesn't have a guard Tolliver couldn't have posted up.

Im not taking anything away from BC , they played to win and they did a great job ! Jacy and Katie did their thing and the younger girls hit big shots as well. I am sure they both learned somethings about themselves and each other. BC deserved to win the game and thats why we play the game. Looking at it on paper doesn't mean much in girls basketball.

I have never seen Toliver play with her back to the basket. She seems more in her element catching and shooting. She has a pretty good jump shot in the lane also so it might have been out of her element to try and post up another gaurd. Connley has been the point for 4 years now I don't see a coach switching that up midstream. I don't think Tolliver would have been any better at the point plus it takes away from her scoring to run the offense. It just looked like they got rattled and could not get it turned around. Another thing I noticed why would they have Smith shooting from the outside, she did hit 1 but she is definitely not an outside shooter. It also takes away from her rebounding.

  14. As for the game, I believe SK will be hard to beat. They lost their best big girl to graduation and two starters to knee problems, but they are still deep. They have a pretty good starting 5.

I haven't seen bc play this yr. so I cannot give them a fair shake but I can say their not going to lay down and quit. Its pretty obvious Bradley and Behrens make it happen for Boone. This could be a good game , or it could get ugly.

SK might be deep but you would never know it looking at the game last night. If not for foul problems Stowers would have only went 6 deep all game. Boone's speed gave SK fits all night only giving them uncontested shots when there was a lapse or breakdown. Tolliver got her points but she is good enough to score on most any team. Boone did a great job holding the rest of the team down. JC, Katie, and Heather Sandlin did a great job balancing out the scoring so SK could not focus on one player. The biggest mismatch was SK had no answer for Beherns. When she got the ball in the post all they could do was let her score or foul her. If Katie hits her foul shots early Boone might have run away with it. Watching the game I think Stowers should run more plays for That Ferris girl she was by far the most athletic of the SK girls that way teams could not focus on just Tolliver.

  15. SK should win big...they are returning their entire team, BC lost 5 of their top 8 from last year, it's on SK's home floor, and they beat BC last year...shoud be a no-brainer!

If Boone could keep the loss within single digits it would be a nice boost for their confidence.

I think it will be closer than that. Boone is quicker this year than last and can guard the perimeter better with that speed. foul trouble should not be a problem because SK likes to pass and keep the ball outside rather than inside so the starters should be able to stay in the game. The one thing SK doesn't have will be someone to hold Katie down if she and JC are on the same page it will be very interesting.

  16. If Simon Kenton can stop Bradley from penetrating and dishing it will come down to the wire. If they let JC run the floor and dish to Behrens they will be hard to beat. Boone will have to find a way to match up to Simon Kentons guards and make them beat them on the inside where Boone has the advantage. Should be a very entertaining game with 2 of the best coaches in their respective Regions trying to outstratagize the other.
