This is a really cool idea.

Mason County at Pendleton County tonight cancelled.

How many HHS kids play football. Mason will be at their full compliment, but HHS may be hurting for players for another month.Highlands will come ready to play and they have a Top 10 9th Region performer in Steve Kowolonek who will most probably shoulder the scoring. I know Mason Co has the advantage of probably having their entire squad and no football players missing. Highlands unfortunately is waiting for a couple 6'5 post players who are currently leading the football team to its 18th state championship.
With that said, I think this is a great opener for both teams but playing on the road against the defending state champs will be a monumental task for the Junior laden Birds.
I have heard that Mason Co has 3 kids over 6'4 who are athletic and can do many things with the basketball.
See post #12 and let's leave it at that.Who else did Mason scrimmage and what was the outcome?
I will pick Mason to win this one.
Downing out is a coaches choice. He will be back for the Cov Cath game for sure.
Mason County has only one more scrimmage, tomorrow afternoon. They have only scrimmaged Greenup Co.

Well Mason County deserves some love after all they are the defending state champs. Of course Russ Middleton will be the focal point of the offense and I think he has what it takes to put them in the top 10 even though the royals lost 4 of the 5 starters from last season. Also Madisonville-Norht Hopkins I know as a whole is not the best team in their region but because they are blessed with Jon Hood on their roster who is nationally ranked. I think his team has to be in the top 10 if he is ranked on Rivals as high as he is.
I didn't know Mason Co lost all that. They will have a tough time getting in the top 10 then.
-
Yes, they are having a team.
-
Sounds like you're pretty close to the program, but I think you're overlooking the obvious. Predictions are that Downing will assume the leadership role for the team this year.
-
OK Mason Nation, I'm prepared to get my socks handed to me, but if Mason Co. is relying on Russ to carry this team, there will be disappointment in the Royal kingdom. Russ, though a very good player, does not have the ability to carry this team. He will only be a pre-season consideration for Mr. BB due to his program. Now that he will be relied upon, he will show the weakenesses in his game. He is a Scotty Pippen, not an MJ. He needed to be in the shadow in order to shine. I know, let's wait and see, but watching this young man for several years, the loss of leadership will be displayed front and center.
Leadership comes in many forms. One of the reasons Mason County has been successful is that all the players bring something to the table. The leading scorer is often not the leader of the team. Let's watch what the TEAM does - because Mason County does TEAM very well.
-
Do you know why?
I have heard he won't play, but it is just hear say now. I think playing at UK and summer classes are his priority.
-
I agree... Remember the party that Mason Co had planned in 2007? Looking forward to basketball season this year and watching all the talent that the 10th region has.:thumb:
Please get your facts straight. A few people had a party planned, not the whole school or anyone affiliated with the team. You make it sound like everyone was in on it, which isn't true. Those people were stupid to do that too and it makes everyone from Mason County look bad.
-
I'm sure if he was moving to Maysville this would not be a problem.
Look at Mason County's roster this year. There were kids from Bracken Co. and Ohio just to name a couple of places. I know I am forgetting some other places. But my point is Mason County has been getting talent to move into the area and everything is fine and dandy. But when another 10th region school get some fresh meat. Then some people want to complain. Seems strange to me.
Besides Barner, all of the kids that aren't from Mason County transfered here at a young age (around elementary school). This is not the same as kids transfering in the middle of their high school careers so stop acting like it is. If Zollo came to GRC in the 4th grade, then yeah, everything would be "fine and dandy." But he didn't.
Barner should have had to sit out as well in my opinion. So therefore, I would still not agree with Zollo being able to play even if he came to Mason County.

I've been told there will be an overflow room with TV's to watch the game. I plan to be there early enough to see Mason win in person!

I was disappointed that they didn't go inside to Miller from the start. Without Boyd and Moses HC didn't have anybody tall enough or good enough to stop Miller. They could have dominated from inside start to finish. There was even a couple of times HC had a freshman on Setty underneath who was 8 inches shorter than Setty. And they couldn't get him the ball. Setty got off to a bad start and started his pouting and complaining routine which made it worse.
QUOTE]
When did Setty start pouting? It looked like to me he couldnt score last night but became a force on the boards. He had 9 rebounds and 8 in the second half. Hes a passionate player but the only time he really pouted was after a rebound and he got the the ball knocked out of bounds and the call went Henry Clays way but it could have gone either.

1. Lexington Catholic
2. Scott County
3. Bryan Station
4. Tates Creek
5. Henry Clay
6. Dunbar
7. LCA
8. Franklin County
9. Madison Central
10. Lafayette
11. Western Hills
12. Woodford County
13. Madison Southern
14. Berea
15. Model
16. Sayre
17. Frankfort
There is no way Scott Co. is in front of Station. They handled them easily at their place a couple weeks ago.
-
Mack is averaging near a triple-double for Station who hasn't lost a game since @ Mason in game 1 of the season...and in that game Miller didn't outshine Mack by any means. My vote is for Mack.
Mack is having a better statistical season. He also has to do more for his team than Miller does. Miller will get it because he is going to UK.

Aaron Boyd has a visit set up with Arkansas for this weekend.
-
It won't be long before Talbot from Harrison joins this list... if he can stay on the floor.
Is he coming back?
-
1.Darius Miller (Mason)
2.Trevor Setty (Mason)
3.Russ Middleton (Mason)
4.Brandon Rash (Montgomery)
5.Owens (St. Pat)
6.Pat Nerl (Campbell)
7.Pete Albrecht (Campbell)
8 & 9. King Brothers
10. Jake Reiger (Brossart)
Good list but I dont think that Nerl, the Kings, or Reiger should be aheah of Jordan Stephens. Ethan King is better than them too.
-
Now that we have seen most of the season, what players in the 10th region are in your Top 10?
-
The key to this game is the health of the Royals players. Trevor Setty has been out of school for the past 3 days for flu like symptoms and Russ Middleton has been out for 2 days because of the same.

Mason by 25

Believe me guys Coach O'Hearn was very gracious here.Mason played 15 players tonight 15 and almost all of them scored. The Starters didn't play 10 minutes of the entire game.Yes the 3 Freshman played the entire 4th and combined to score about 15 points. On to Brossart and the Elliott fan running his mouth in this thread has no idea what he/she is saying by saying Mason run up the score,But i believe your team makes a visit in about 5 weeks to Maysville so we will see then.Congrats Royals,And coach simms will get things going at PC if they give him time.
They scored 12 points.
-
What # is Setty on the team? If he is #32, I wasn't that impressed with his game. Reading this board you would've thought he was the second coming of Darius.
Setty is number 14.

I think injuries and lack of quality leadership is the main problem for the Cats.
Major venue pricing vs. high school venue for regionals

At BOK for the 9th/10th region - it may cost $8, but that is only at the arena. Since it is all reserved seating and we do not live anywhere near the arena, we will pay Ticketmaster fees. I paid $63 and some change for 4 tickets. How much of that will go back to the schools and into the programs? Not much I am guessing.
