  1. The Ky-Allstars will have 40 Sr boys at try outs in Georgetown. Every head basketball coach has the right to vote for ten players. The player of the year from each region gets an automatic invite. The additional players are selected by the ballots turned in by the head coaches. The team is then chosen after try outs by the 16 coaches that won coach of the year in their region. No politics unless coaches decide not to vote. Indiana's team is selected by the game director and a few advisors.

  2. Looked like there was more than 1500 there, to me.

I think ticket prices could have been better. Prices were $15 and $20 a piece.

Ticket sales and comps were at 2127. Some bleed off after the girls game. Second year in Louisville, looking for ways to to have bloggers like those at Bluegrass and others to leave their houses and support the game and as a result the Charity. Ticket prices at this event for a two game series seem to be in line with those around the country. Would someone come for $12.00 and $18.00? Dealing with economy, time constraints, internet, and a myriad of other compelling reasons not to drive and watch a two game series. However; great media attendance. 64 print media credentials and 26 photo requests. Ky needs some wins, fixes alot.

  3. Was this in Indiana or Kentucky?

Game was in Indiana. Ky coaches did an excellent job. Faulkner kids like having extra coaches. Butler was a great surprise, added alot of speed and ball handling skills. Indiana is big, big and had more success with the three.

Mr. Basketball from Indiana was neutralized, but others filled in. Tomorow at Bellarmine, Ky. will have to challenge some of those threes and keep their big men from dominating inside. Looking forward to it.

  4. First I would like to congratulate the players that made the team!

Now, I'd like to say that the whole process was an absolute JOKE! How can you schedule the tryouts during the AAU state championships. You are asking the kids that play AAU to leave their teammates and miss the semis or final game of a state championship in order to achieve their own personal gain.

I take my hat off to all those kids for showing the class, in not leaving their teammates and coaches, that the organizers of the tryouts failed to show!

The high school coaches have to wake up and realize that the AAU season is as important, if not more, than the high school season and the kids should be given every opportunity to excel in both venues.

Again, congrats to those who made the team and hopefully there will be someone with some common sense planning the tryouts next year!!

Last year 15 players were chosen to scrimmage 2 games against the seniors.

This year coaches wanted a try out to start a system and be able to identify players in advance. Players also were filmed for college coaches recognition. Three major college coaches and four others have already requested film.

Next years plans are to have a similiar workout to Indiana's and to have a one game series against Indiana's Juniors. Seems to be a process headed in the right direction but with some growing pains.

  5. Seems like a bad weekend for tryouts...A lot of Jr's are busy on the AAU circuit. There are, however, a lot of really good Jr's. Is it by invitation, or will there be 50 Jr's show up at Spalding?

Number of Juniors showing up after AAU games, some by passed games. Some of the try outs are being filmed and put on the All-Stars web site at some College Coaches request.

  6. Size is an issue every year in this game. Indiana always has a handful of 6'7, 6'8, 6'9 kids that can post and step out as well. There's just not much size in Kentucky. Add in the population difference between the two states and Kentucky is behind the eight ball before the game ever starts. There is one thing not too be worried about, Kentucky has two of the best in the business on the sidelines. These kids will be ready to compete for Coach Hopper and Coach Listerman, if they aren't they won't be around long!

I would say that the coaches knew that they had a size disadvantage and had to look at those that would concentrate and be aggressive on defense at all times. I will have to agree, they have two no nonsense coaches that will challenge them as they have not been before. Good Luck

  7. There were big guys that can score defend and rebound that had good "tryouts" but were not selected. From what I am told it was pretty much decided before tryouts that Kentucky would be going small. There are guys on the team that did not have good tryouts at all, and they were still locks for the team apparently. There are many that will agree with these statements. To knock on the bigs because they are not on the final roster is in no way justified.

I don't believe there were any locks with the exception of Jon Hood and he still played hard at try outs. The current theme throughout this final roster seems to be defensive and team oriented. This years bigs seemed to have difficulty defending anything outside and may not have fit in with the coaches vision. Coaches of the year from most regions picked this team. Not the strenght of last year but hopefully the heart.

  8. Where should the game be played at? I think it would be embarrasing to only have 2,200 fans show up in Freedom Hall. The event would lose money. We had probably the best boys and girls team in years and no one showed up.

Correction / 3200 attendance, Fathers Day hurt attendance plus no Louisville Boys on the team and perhaps the first year in a new city. Maybe play the game at the Louisville Convention center or Broadbent?

  9. Superior speed and athleticism ruled last night. A great game to watch if you were for Bluegrass Girls! Maybe the best top to bottom team we've seen in some time. Great job by the selection committee. The coaching staff did great work with preparing the team and keeping players fresh. Indiana will have its work cut out trying to beat this team in the Gardens tomorrow. The ability to break down off the dribble and get layups or open shots causes problems for the Hoosier ladies!

Keep up the good work Kentucky gals!:dancingpa

Looked like the girls played extremely well as a team, even when Indiana started a run. Looking forward to a sweep this Sunday at Louisville Gardens
