  1. Wow, nothing like a good forum to settle any doubt about Russell's superiority over a struggling Lewis County team. Yeah, Yeah I know this is all about opinions and predictions, free speech, etc... Maybe Russell can bring up the middle school and finish out the 2nd half! Or possibly the JFL! I'll be the first to say that Russell is a stellar team, but so was Ashland, and I believe they will be again. I know what its like to go thru a devastatingly long season, and the character it takes for a high school kid to know he may not get one single win in his senior year, but he keeps on playing! Pride is one thing, arrogance is another. No, I'm not from Lewis County, in fact I'm not even one of their fans. I believe Russell will win this game, predictions are inevitable, just remember other kids read these posts. Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Prov. 16:18.

  2. I agree with kyball and yahoo! Its stuff like this that makes it easy to explain why so many people do not subscribe to the "ASHLAND" Independent. And yes, I know some Ashland sympathizer will remind me that its just "The Independent". However, it means something when coaches and the young men playing earn a position of ranking rather than have it handed to them on a silver, I mean, PAPER platter.

  3. If East losses by 10 or less than they are a better team than I thought.

East beating Raceland was not a surprise they should beat them.

    Mason - 45

    East - 14

There is no doubt that Mason is a quality, ranked football program. However j-russell you predicted Raceland to beat us I believe 45 to 7. And now you're saying it was "no surprise" we beat Raceland. At the least you should stick to your predictions! East is content to enter this game the underdog as before. Who knows what might happen on a Friday nite!

  4. We appreciate the post jerico51. No doubt Raceland is an outstanding team and well coached. Congrats to them for their Ashland win. Fairview beat us fair and square last Fri. nite. From watching both games IMO Boyd is and was the better of the two teams we've played. New offensive schemes take time to learn, unfortunately we're still working thru the X's and O's. Penalties abound usually from frustrated players that got manhandled on the previous play. Something Coach Baldwin will have to deal with one on one. Friday's game will reflect how well the new coach adjusts to different teams ability to move the ball, as well as defending the end zone. Looking forward to a competitive atmosphere in Ram-Land come Friday Nite!

  5. To those who contend that the East/Boyd game was an upset may I say that Boyd has never beat East in a regular season game. I'm not even sure Boyd has scored on East in any of the three games, but I may be mistaken. Boyd is a good team, and I think they will surprise a few teams that take them lightly. As for the concept of "UPSET", I'm content to say East won a hard fought game against a worthy opponent.

  6. Well its bout time to get this season underway. I'd like to wish you Boyd County players and fans a safe trip over here to the East Carter field. I'm lookin forward to a good matchup tonite! Of course I'll be rootin for my Raiders on the sidelines. I'm glad for both teams that the powers that be decided to move the kick-off back an hour. See ya at the game. Go Raiders!!!

  7. Over the last few years East Carter has literally risen from the ashes! After two seasons with a 1 and 19 record, EC has made repeated post season appearances. Playing the likes of Russell, Flemming as well as other well coached teams in the area only encourages coaches and players to work harder to compete at a higher level. I'm rootin for the underdog Raiders in this one and am thankful for the tough teams in our district for raising the bar of competition!
