  1. What was said at the tailgate was bogus. What i am posting is Fact. I for once in my life am finally not fighting a losing battle. I cannot disclose details on this situation hoping that the Corporate sponsors get a courtesy call from the Great minds involved to try to work out this mess.

There are currently two issues with signs that I am aware of. The one sign needs to go back up on the building and I know that is currenlty being worked on. Unfortunately it has not been an easy task and I am sure those of you that have been involved in the last few weeks of renovations know what I am talking about. Somehow this all needs to be worked out and hopefully it can be before the playoffs start. It may even invlove a number of volunteers once again getting together to get it accomplished, however if that is what it takes I am confident that we can get a group together to make it happen. The other sign was was nothing more than a misunderstanding and plans are already in place to correct the issue. I will tell you that both sponsors have been more than cooperative and understanding and we all appreciate their continued support of our athletic teams at Highlands.

  2. I thought that Holmes played a great game tonight and that they can come away of many possitives. Most everyone was saying that this would be a total blow out and although the score might let people think that, holmes hung tough through every down. Coach Lickert has a great deal to work with and I as a birds fan can only hope that that over the next few years he gets the program to where we can all say that this is the biggest rivalry of the year. Great game Coach Lickert and good luck to the Bulldogs for the remainder of the year.

  3. pccatsmom posted 8 PHS fouls in the 3rd quarter to 3 Bird fouls and all you can remember is the one walk Belcher had.............

That is not all I remember and all stated facts above are correct. Take nothing away from any of the players or the teams on the floor. Both teams played hard throughout the game. In any game good and bad calls are made and good and bad plays are made, in the end PC is a very good team on their home floor and HHS played them very strong. I personally think that Belcher is very talented and has the opportunity to play beyond High School. I wish him and the rest of PC the best for the remainder of the year. The Birds need to continue to work hard and still could very easily surprise some teams come tournament time.

  4. Please. Stop about the refs. Preseason talk about HHS hinted that their season would go as to how the two post players developed and played. I have not seen a game, so I cannot comment on that progression. Looking at box scores gives some indication as to how well players are doing offensively, but do not tell the whole story. Are the two senior centers contributing?

Scott Wise was not at the game last night, I believe he was on a college visit. I do not recall any pre season hype about the center position being the key to success this year. This team is very athletic and the more they use their atleticism the better they can be. I would love to see them play at a much faster pace regardless of who is on the floor.

  5. I wasn't there, but I've seen Kane play a lot and I can't remember a walk ever being called on him. He's got very good footwork.

I am not saying that he does not have great footwork and that he is not a great player, both of those statements are facts. The other facts are that he obviously did walk at least twice in the game. Once he stumbled and fell into a HHS player and the block was called, the other he was making a great attempt to save the ball out of bounds and he skipped on one foot at least three times, both of which were obvious travels that were not called. In both cases he was attempting to make an athletic play and just got his feet tangled. In no way is this implying that he is not a very good player.

  6. Actually PC had more called on them til the end of the game when Highlands had to foul to try and catch up. Highlands pretty well beat on Kane Belcher all night. He hung tough and had a pretty good night at the line. Willie's got alot of work to do.

I don't think anyone can say that Highlands beat on anyone all night long. The referees allowed Belcher to do almost anything he wanted all night long. He was allowed to hook in the post to get to the basket, he was hammering players as they drove to the basket, (I think only had one foul called on him), and allowed to walk with the ball numerous times without it being called. The one travel was crucial with the game still up in the air and he hopped about 3 times right in front of the referee and it was not called. The next HHS possession the same referee called a travel on HHS that was very questionable. Belecher did shoot well from the free throw line, however he was put on the line quite frequently. Were they legit fouls? Probably, however he was returning the favor quite often at the other end and they were not being called. All in all, HHS played a very spirited game and they continue to improve each week. The offense looked to be more active most of the night and a number of players stepped up and made some shots.

  7. What committee have you discussed this with? I think it could be run outside of the Junior Football League umbrella, but should be organized in much the same manner as it was previously. Perhaps this is where LN could provide some legal advice on how this league should be formed. My guess would be as a non-profit entity as it was before, but the big question I would have is liability insurance. What suggestions would you have regarding the selection of coaches? That was a big part of the problem when the city took over the league.

I spoke to members of the Jr Football League committee and they seemed to be somewhat interested. The details would need to be worked out but I think it would be much better to utilize the existing structure and resources to make the league stronger more quickly. The coaches would be selected just as they are now in Jr Football, hopefully a number of former palyers and parents that have an interest in the basketball program at Highlands would step up to coach. I think the bigger problem with the league after the city took over was poor management and not as much to do with the coaches.

  8. I agree that Coach Schlarman can be more active in the community and at the school to help promote the basketball team. However, he is not the one responsible for the Junior Basketball League not being in Ft. Thomas nor is he responsible for starting the league again. The ft. Thomas Jr Football League is run by a bunch of dedicated and hard working parents that want nothing more than to have their kids play football at Highlands. Yes, Coach Mueller fully supports the league and in most cases goes out of his way to make the league better but he is not involved in running the league or was he involved in starting it. The leauge was around well before Dale ever coached at Highlands and I am quite confident that he actaully played in the league as a kid.

There was at one time a Ft. Thomas Jr Basketball League and it was a great success and it may not be a coincidence that the basketball program was in better shape at that time. The downfall of the league was when the city decided to take it over and a few years later the league was gone. If enough people really care about the league and truly thought it would help then they should get together and get it organized, possibly under the Ft. Thomas Junior Football League umbrella. I have discussed this with the committee and really feell it would be a great help to the Basaketball Program at Highlands. The real problem is everyone wants to complain but no body wants to step up and do what is right to fix the issues.

  9. Elder's mvp was their punter....That kid killed the ball all night long..Simons needs to play wideout and be out on the field . He is the only wr they have that is any type of a weapon. I know Dale doesn't want to have kids play both ways but he needs to be out there...:ylsuper:

I as much as anyone would like to see more kids play both ways, however, in years past all I keep hearing was that the only way that we can compete with teams such as Elder and St. X is to not have so many play both ways. I think when Coach Ramsey made the comment that this was the best Highlands team that they have played, he did not come from the fact that we have the most talented individual players. Don't get me wrong we have some outstanding players, (ie: Jordan Kramer) but do we have the talented players such as Jared, Derrik, and Gino, I don't think so. I believe that this team is stronger as a group of 22 then any of those other teams, therefore that is why Coach Ramsey made his comment.

If some of these kids did play more both ways could it help our offense some, I think so. However, does it hurt our defense some, I think so. If by playing more kids both ways and we score one more touchdown per game and give up one more touchdown per game have we gained anything?

I believe towards the end of the year you will some more players going both ways sparingly. The idea of developing depth and keeping guys fresh for the entire year will go a long way in helping us achieve our ultimate goal of #17. If you have the talent you should use it. Now that we have the talent on this team and the JV and Freshman teams, I think the days of playing both ways are gone for at least awhile at HHS. This alone will allow us to better compete with the much bigger schools in the GCL.

  10. According to the broadcast crew, Conner's qb was hit from behind while attempting a pass. He was carted off on a stretcher and believed to have a severe concussion, but was moving his limbs somewhat. Our prayers are with him! Conner fans, please let us know what you hear!

After Speaking to the trainer last night and seeing the newspaper this morning it sounds as if the young man will be okay. The trainer said that the injury most likely came from his head hitting the ground more than the actual hit, which was a monster hit. Our prayers our with the young man and his family and we sure hope to see him back on the playing field soon.

  11. How did that football player do in the tourney for the Jazz?

(Drew Simons). Has the fence between he and Willie been mended?? Or is he playing to "stay in shape" for the "run to state" this year in football?

I heard he was going to play this year and that he really missed it last year. I heard that Highlands' first open gym is tonight so I guess we will know after tonight if he is playing or not.

  12. Not sure, they played in a tournament up in Franklin OH this past weekend so possibly another member on here could give us the results.

The Jazz did play in Franklin this past weekend. I heard that they won the tournament and beat every team by more than 15 points. I was also told that in the last 12 games played including the state AAU tournament they have beaten every team except one by double digits. It sounds as if they have a very sound team and maybe they should start getting the credit they deserve. They have only been beaten by one local U16 team this year and lost to one other U16 in Columbus. The fact is they beat a very talented DS team with or without Big Al and they beat every other team that weekend by 20 points or more until the finals. They then beat Charlotte Court, which is extremely talented in the finals by 4 points.

  13. IMO they would have beat the Jazz in pool play which would have had them playing the Truth instead of Charlotte which is a lot better team than the Truth. Then they would have played the Royals in the semis.

I am not sure how you can say they would have beaten the Jazz in pool play. The jazz played very well all weekend and won every game except the finals by double digits. I agree one player helps a team but I am not sure one player completely changes the game.
