they are based on the coaches ratings . a list is sent to each coach to list the top 40 refs. it is like alot of things a popularity contest. being an basketball ref for more bthan 25 years, it hard when you go to summer camps and not be rated by some coaches for some reason

I watched Zeke Pike play against highlands middle school team at turkeyfoot. It got pretty ugly, Zeke had around 30 points and Turkeyfoot beat them by about 30 or 40.

 

I have seen Brady play for his AAU team called the irish, he is a decent players however his size will affect him.

 

Hands down I believe Zeke Pike will be seeing more varsity time next year than any incoming freshman.

I would expect so. Being held back a year, he will have the body of a sophomore, so I think that would help him at least initially in high school.

Pike will be a very nice player in High School if he keeps working hard and

improving. Wanted to mention that the Turkeyfoot - Highlands game wasn't

all that ugly as the final score ended up being 53-43. It was a four point

game middle of fourth quarter. Pike had a nice game finishing with 18 points.

Did him and Romes from B-wood share the title last year?

Congratulations to many of the boys who played with FastBreak through the years. Several of these players will continue their careers playing college basketball on scholarship. N.Ky.FastBreak, which started up as a team when the boys were 10 years old, have won many tournament championships. For 4 years straight, in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 the team won the Ky. AAU State championship. Included in that run, was a 7th place finish in the Nationals. In 2002 and 2003 the team went seperate ways, but in 2004 most of the team came back as sophmores (16 yr olds) and won the Ky. AAU State Basketball Tournament once again. Last year, in 2005 the team was knocked out by the N.Ky. Tarheels in overtime. Hopefully these players will have the same kind of success with their new teams on the collegiate level.

Jeff will sign his letter of intent on Monday, May 8 in the school resource center at 2:40. Coach Paul Peck along with his assistant and his sports media director will be attending the signing. Jeff had been talking with other schools and has had a few other offers from D11 and NAIA schools but felt like Lindsey Wilson was his best fit. Lindsey Wilson is one of the top NAIA Division 1 schools in the country with many national tournament appearances in the last 6 years. Congratulations Jeff!!!

In regards to Vories and Johnson from Highlands, Johnson is very good with his timing and help defense and Vories is one of the top steal leaders in Northern Ky. In fact, during the Holy Cross game HHS was down 6 points at Half time and to start the 3rd quarter Vories made 2 big steals coming in from behind Ryan Bussey to start a 16-0 run for the birds. Vories had 10 points in the quarter to take the birds from a 6 point defecit to a 10 point lead before a desperation banked 3 brought it down to 7 at the end of the quarter.

Don't you think HC's defense dictated this though?

I thought HC's defense was very good. They have several players that hustle and play hard the full 32 minutes. But Vories ended up with probably over 20 something points in the game and most of those were in the second half. In fact, the only shot he missed in that half, I think, was a desperation layup at the end of the game. But during the last 2 1/2 minutes HHS's coach had other players, possibly using Vories as a decoy, to try to score. Some of these shots were contested, and I think with HHS being in the bonus should have only taken an uncontested layup or wait to get fouled with the ball in Vories hands. But hats off to HC for making the plays at the right time and hitting the foul shots that counted.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but wasn't it Vories who had the most costly turnover in the game at the end when HC double teamed him and he threw the ball without looking directly to Dane Lantry?

Porter22, I was at the game last night and the turnover you are referring to was around the 3:40 mark of the fourth quarter. At that point of the game HHS was still up by 7 or 8 points. It was probably still costly but aren't all turnovers. During the last 2 to 2 1/2 minutes of the game, the coach should have made sure Vories had the ball and spread the floor leaving the middle open. I'm sure HC was happy that Vories did not have the opportunity to make the plays at the end of the game.

In response to the light schedule for the Bluebirds, all 8 of their games so far have been away games. Coming up in the next several weeks they play 8 teams that are ranked now in the top 20 including Elizabethtown, Lafayette, Brian Station, Cov Cath, Holmes, Pendleton County and Shelby County. They could also play University Heights if they defeat E-town. Also Highlands has away cames with NCC, Holy Cross and North Oldham. Home games include, Dixie, Ryle and Brossart. Hardly a light schedule. Even though they could struggle in some of the games, this will only make them better by tournament time.
