How about 2002:
Lost @ Bourbon by 18, then Beat them by 3 @ the fieldhouse.
If that tourny was held anywhere else, they would not have won it.
I think you need to do a little more research on that game. Let me know when you find it.
-
It was a play in game (5 team district), tonight was the #4 and #5 seed game...
So why wouldn't you play the #2 and #3 game on Tuesday and the #1 and #4 game on Wednesday like everybody else in the state does?

Here is a list of all the teams Mason had played @ in the regular season and then played in the fieldhouse in the Region.

None
3 times they lost an away game to a team in the regular season then beat them at home in the playoffs, 4 more times the score was shifted more in their favor, and only 3 times was the score shifted in favor of the other team, never changing the outcome of the game (Campbell's big win in the finals, along with a 14 point win down the a 12 point win, and a 10 point win down to a 4 point win .)
They have gone from a 2 point win to a 27 point win, a 4 point win to a 21 point win, an 18 point loss to a 2 point loss, an 18 point loss to a 5 point loss against the same opponents from their regular season away game to the region at home.
Can you honostly look at these numbers and say there is absolutely no home court advantage for Mason Co. in the playoffs.
I can't.
Nice research, but guess what, can you honestly say you know a year Mason Co. won the region without having the best team? I can't, and that is the REAL point here.

In reality, the district champion title means very little (maybe a slight edge in first round), however, Holmes is far from an absolute second place. With or without Rice, they will be tough to beat. If Hill ever realizes how good he is, he could take over...but I do like the Colonels chances against whomever at this point. Tuesday will be fun!
In certain regions it may not mean as much as say the 9th, 10th, 11th, 6th, or 7th.
9th--How would you like to get Holmes or NCC in the first round?
10th--How would you like to get St. Patrick/Augusta or Deming in the first round?
6th, 7th, and 11th--How would you like to host your first round game in the region?
Etown and John Hardin district title game means very little because 99% chance they play each other in the regional final as well.
16th region district title games mean very little as well because everybody is so even. Doesn't matter who you play/draw at Morehead they could all beat each other.
These are just a couple of examples.

Why wouldn't Magoffin get a night off before their next game?
-
Thought I would start this since I was the reason for the closing. Congrats to Holmes on the win and for making the the 9th region tournament. I don't expect them to lay down in the finals but I do expect the winner of the CCH/HC game to win the district.
-
I don't know why it wouldn't be on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday.
-
What's to argue? Holmes has to find a new plan, and have to do it on the fly. But in a one game setting, you still never know with Holmes vs either two. CCH/HC isn't the District Title game. Simple as that. One has to go home...
Aren't you in the wrong thread?
The winner of the CCH/HC game wins the distrcit IMO, so to me it is the district championship game. Sorry if you don't feel the same.
-
What did I rescue? I made a point, and was right. Sorry if that's not OK with you...
Its the way you always make your points. I thought you would argue my point though? I'm disappointed.

Can anyone name another high school team that gets to host region every year on their own floor besides Mason County and Henry County?
Hey, why don't we have the SEC tournament at Rupp every year? It perfect to have the region at or near the most northern point. Using that logic that would be great.
Don't you think that 16th region fans would be mad if Ashland hosted every year? Of course they would. What if Henry Clay hosted the 11th?
Who cares about fairness when tradition is involved. Come on you all can do better than that.
And yeah Montgomery can handle the parking.
How many times has Clay County hosted the region? Especially back in their glory days.
Is Rupp 3 times bigger than the Georgia Dome? I think not.
If Ashland seated 7,000+, MSU did not exist, and nobody else could even get 3,000 in do you think anyone else would host it? I think not.
Where will 5,000 people park at Montgomery County?

Deming won by 13.

Knowing kyhoop's posting history, it wasn't innocent...
If you could have given me 5 minutes I could have told everyone. But of course here is Gametime to the rescue.
Does everyone not agree CCH and HC are the two best teams in the district over the last 2-3 weeks?

The refs were bad "at times." I thought they let a lot of things go that could have been fouls but they decided to let them play. The free throws were lopsided because Newport was fouling toward the end of regulation and at the end of overtime. NCC was also in the bonus with 4 minutes to go in the forth quater. The officiating was not that bad.
What officials are working the 9th this year?
-
Coach Hampton might be the best postseason coach in the region.
-
Thanks i knew i was something like that. Man did Bracken change the name of the gym to the polar palace cause it was ice cold in there.
Was it a sellout tonight?
-
Glad to see this school participate in the regional tournament after the beginning of the season tragedy.
-
I meant otherwise. With the results over the past 2 weeks both these teams (CCH and HC) look like to me the #1 and #2 teams in the district.
-
First, Morgan County never overlooked West Carter at any point in preparation or during the game. The 100% credit goes to the West Carter basketball team. They out did Morgan Co. in every facet of the game. They had a game plan and executed to perfection. The Comets hardly ever turned the basketball over. 1 at halftime and probably less than 3 in 2nd half or maybe game.
While Kalen Jones was unstoppable...he would hit three's or simply penetrate and create his shot, I believe one of West's spark plugs was PG Daniel Barker. He ran an excellent PG, distributing, running the offense, and playing very poised. That is where I think the Comets really clicked.
Congrats to Stan McGlone and staff for an excellently played basketball game. It was well officiated, so nobody can say the "refs" cost 'em the game. It was a case in which West Carter beat the Cougars fair and square. They earned it and will advance.
Classy post. All us fans should keep this post in the back of our heads over the next 3-4 weeks.
Is the Fairview-Boyd game the regional championship?
-
Let me start off by saying that I hate most officials.......That being said I Don't want their job and know that I couldn't do as good a job as most of them. I had to referee a little kids tourney all day and I realize that they perform a thankless job for little money. For that I say thank you
Hate is a strong word isn't it?

Is the district championship between CCH and HC?
-
I don't care how many people the Field House seats or how much money it generates, it is not fair to have the 10th region tournament there every year. It's not fair to the people who live in the far reaches of the region...places like Clark County for instance.
Our best venue in the 14th region is no doubt Knott County Central's Morton Complex (5000 seats), but there is no way that the rest of the region will ever give KCC the advantage of hosting the tournament every year. The way it is right now, each of the 4 districts gets their chance to host the tournament in a 6 venue rotation. That way all fans throughout the region is given a fair shake. I mean, the distance between Stanton and Hindman is about 80 miles. Well, that road runs two ways, for both fans and players. Why should the 56th district players and fans have to load up and travel nearly two hours every year, while schools in Knott, Perry, and Letcher basicly have the tournament in their back door? What's fair about that?
Same thing for the people of Clark County when comparing the Mason County venue.
What about when one gym holds possibly 5,000 more people than any other gym in the region? Think the ADs, principals, and supers want to turn all that gate money down? I think not.

mhighfield..I appreciate your open-mindness...this is what I want to...just give it a try...then go from there.
Then go back to Maysville.

What about in the 9th or 10th when you draw St. Henry or Deming? You could get by with a so-so performance. But if you draw Holmes or Bourbon, Montgomery, Scott, or Campbell you better bring your "A" game.
