  1. The Redhound Varsity Club does an outstanding job with the organization of the Cumberland Falls Invitational each and every year. I think there will be several interesting games as the week unfolds. I eagerly await the opportunity to see Dorman and Bell County play. Both teams always field a highly competitive squad. I would hypothesize these two teams meeting in the finals before a spirited crowd.

  2. Interesting turn of events tonight. It appears that one exceeded expectations and one fell below anticipated hopes. I suppose one has to remember that improvement does not always equal successes, especially when the opponent could have progressed at a greater pace. As for the youth factor, it appears to me that both teams had an abundance of new players with the victor having even more youth on the floor for much of the game. Injuries factored in to both sides of the equation with Whitley still missing some ailing players and Corbin being without the services of upperclassmen Barley & Cashen. With all this being stated, I for one thoroughly enjoyed the exhibition of effort and defense on the part of the Redhounds and would like to issue my sincerest congratulations to the coaching staff. Perhaps the true measure for this team of Redhounds will come next week with the likes of worthy opponents in Cawood, Bell, and Knoxville Catholic.

  3. As unusual as it might seem....Mr. Bubba seems to be the only reader who truly understood my post. Corbin has dominated Whitley for years....I believe Coach Deaton was the last Corbin coach to get swept by the Colonels in 95 but even then the Hounds took the Colonels in the district tournament and went on to the finish runner up in the region. I did not say the Redhounds needed the material for motivation. I said it may help them focus for the game. Since they have won nearly 20 in a row they may need to make certain as to not overlook the Colonels this season. I will attempt to further explain my posts next time so as all readers can understand them. So sorry for the confusion.

  4. 4chs- I think the game at Whitley will be a barn burner. If Josh Crawford scores 16 or more from the free throw line, Corbin wins a close one. If Crawford can not hit his free throws or if he wilts under the continual beating, Whitley wins in a close one.

Crawford will be the best player on the floor but, he will have someone holding and banging on him all night. Take Crawford out of the mix and the two teams are close talent wise.

My, my, my..what faith Mr. Mutt has in the Colonels. Is this the same Colonel group that lost 4 games in the Freshman and JV ranks last season to the Hounds? Have they improved this much? Not selling the new coaches, players or anyone else in Colonel land short, but I would think the Hounds have a nice supporting cast for Mr. Crawford. I would not be surprised to see Crawford have many nights this season with a triple double for Coach Pietrowski.

Many times players who are overly aggressive also become ultra emotional and find themselves confined to the bench due to excessive fouls, technicals and overall sloppy play. I have always found the best basketball players to be very controlled and maintain their poise in the heat of the battle. Let's hope this spirited game is played with class on both sides of the court. I am sure Coach Pietrowski appreciates the bulletin board material to help his players focus on the district showdown.

  5. This seems to be an issue that really has no solution. One only needs to look at history to see that some groups are simply not going to get along in peace and harmony. As long as none of the athletes or anyone else is in danger, then my advice is just ignore the ignorance and support your school. Let people say what they want to and wave all the flags they wish. These two teams and schools in general are very similar so thus arises the competitive spirit and the intense rivalry between them. Maybe you can relate it to..."Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me".

  6. These teams are a far cry from the days of Male, Lex Cath, and Moeller. It seemed that the Pigskin classic was one of the best in the state during this era. I suppose the financial backing is not the same as it was back in the "glory days". I wonder if Whitley County, Williamsburg, Lynn Camp were contacted about participating? Some sort of bowl game featuring these teams along with Corbin would draw record crowds, plenty of money and an overall great time for fans, players and media. If Middlesboro and Knox Central are added for local flavor instead of state level competition then this event is certainly headed in a downward spiral.

  7. Ahhhhh, the bliss of agreement.........

When it comes to the Colonels, well I have only seen them play three times this year and (Bell and the two home games). I thought they might be making some progress after the Madison Central game but they seem to have black slid some this past week. I don't know, I would think they they could win one of the two Laurel games although I am not prepared to say which one. Mike Campbell's 4-6 regular season and playoff birth is not looking to bad compared to this year.

Who made this schedule for the Colonels? Something tells me it was not Coach Black( Back) ..spelling check...

Things will pick up in the upcoming years. New scheme, new coach, and all that.

Face it things have been going down for area football for years. Whitley hit their peak in the mid ninties.....now it is much tougher.

  8. I actually agree for once with you Apex.....I say 5- 5 in the regular season for the Hounds and then 2 wins in the post season...so that would be 7- 5 and then the real test starts.....so far the Hounds have failed all quizzes...Mboro, Rock, Bell,Oldham, and South...maybe this time things will be different. How about the Colonels? Do they have a chance to win another game this season or will it be one win for them?

  9. Bell middle already beat Corbin in a scrimage earlier in the season by at least 4 touchdowns Bell middle is really tough this year they beat a Clay County team that has not lost a game in 3 years so it will be a good one at the end of the year when these two teams play.

Did Bell win both the 7th and 8th grade scrimmages against the Hounds? I was told differently by a pretty good source. I was told Corbin won the 7th grade scrimmage, both teams get a re-match soon according to my sources.

  10. Home field advantage seems to rule this series as of late. I know it is certainly difficult to come out of Somerset with a victory at any level. Maybe the Jackets will benefit from the friendly confines of Finley Legion field. Somerset should win easily, but Williamsburg will not back down. This would be a huge feather in the hat for Coach Herron and staff...A win shows they are a contender...a big loss shows they are a pretender...something tells me it might be closer than most expect.

  11. Pretty good match-up...4th smallest school in state playing the 6th smallest school in the state that field football teams...these 2 schools need luck just to field a team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D Colonels district is wide open...Lincoln may be the best team

So you are a member of the size matters....club.....some think the A schools can beat the 3 A schools. Where does this stop.... I say put all the football schools in a district like basketball. Let them earn a region berth...then let the best 16 face it off to win it all...everything is settled then.
