Who are the referees? John Burton, Gary Crum, and Wendall Wallen?
-
Spike has his constituents -- and he makes it clear where his loyalties are, haha.

Does anyone know what time the game starts, and would anyone be interested in me giving updates?
I'd love updates.

Not trying to start an argument but if the HC/CCH game was the only game that you have seen CCH play then you did not have a good assessment of the Colonels. Young and Schult played awful, Cahill didn't play at all, and, since those 3 have started playing well along with Noll, CCH is a totally different team.
You haven't started an argument -- I actually do agree with you, I am just saying that I think HC will win because they currently are the hottest team in the region. Cov. Cath. proabably has a better chance of winning, but I am going strictly with a gut feeling; and I don't have much of a gut, so it may not be the correct feeling.
-
Have you seen CCH?
Yep, I have, and I think it is going to be a great game. It is a tough one though, because two of the regions best, play each other in the first round. I wish both teams luck, but I think Holy Cross will pull this one out. I say this because they have won 12 of 13 since their loss to Covington Catholic early in the year, and they have won their last 9 games. Nothing against Covington Catholic. Have a good day.

You'd be crazy to pick anyone but HC with the confidence the are playing with right now. HC by 6.
-
I had a conference there when it first opened. It is a great venue, and will be a wonderful atmosphere. Have a good day.

Holy Cross is the hottest team in the region right now, I think they beat Scott by double digits. Momentum is tough to overcome, confidence is the key when you play down the stretch. Holy Cross has won 8 in a row, and Scott has lost 8 of their last 10.

Paintsville High School, class of '02!

GOP--It doesn't matter what defense they play. They have played man and zone--both are terrible. They struggle playing either one because they don't understand what the concept of team "D" means. Until some effort is put forth, they will continue to be a weak team on the defensive end.
Well, I accept your remarks, and I guess I will agree to disagree on this one. Have a good one.
-
Well maybe you could use your connections to BMR to get him to re-think the defense that the Tigers use! Whoever's brain child it is still has to have BMR's blessing. BMR is too good a coach and the Tigers have too much talent to be in the position that they are in right now. I hope that they can change it, but time is running out quickly!
As for UK, even with the win tonight, I don't know if more coaches would help them or not. But that is another topic for another time!
He is a great coach, and I look for him to make some adjustments. With young guns, trying to put in a new defense is difficult, and if you scratch it then you show that you don't believe in it. I don't believe in it, but someone does, and maybe it will come around, or it will be changed.
I'll let Coach Runyon do the coaching, unless he calls me and solicits my opinion -- which isn't going to happen.
-
Well whoever it may be that likes this defense, BMR has the final say! So he must take the blame! BMR is the head coach, the Tigers don't need 6 coaches sitting on the bench. I don't even think that UK has that many?
Maybe if the coach started acting like the coach, then things MIGHT get better. I have seen the Tigers blow more double digit leads this year than I care to. The talent is there, but it is being wasted!
With that said, anyone could win this game. But I'll give the edge to JC, not because they are playing at home, which makes little difference to the Tigers, but because they are a little more stable than the Tigers, if that is possible. Flip a coin and you'll have just as good a chance of picking the winner.
Well I am not going there, Coach Runyon is basically my second father, but I will say that UK could use an extra coach or two, haha. I'll stand by the Tigers, but I am a little aggravated with the defensive side of the ball. We shall see.

I agree that Paintsville is a very talented team. However, talent does not always manifest itself as wins when it is found predominantly in younger players. This is a unique situation. I have never seen Bill Mike struggle like he is this season getting through to players. For some reason, these kids don't seem to want to listen and they refuse to play defense. The Tigers have an opportunity to do something special but in order for that to happen the players must first buy what Bill Mike is selling.
I think your post is primarily true, and I appreciate your ability to explain your point with clarity. I agree that this is a unique situation, I would, however, disagree with you on your analysis that the team isn't buying what Coach Runyon is selling -- I certainly do believe that they are buying it, but I guess we will see if it comes together in the end. You are right on the point about defense, and I have harped on it for a number of years with this team. Coach knows I hate the type of defense the team is playing, and by design it is a containment defense that is used to slow down teams and make them take bad shots...the only problem is, Painstville is a team who has always created turnovers, played up tempo, and gained momentum on the defensive end by turning turnovers into points. We have seen very minimal positive results from the zone defense we play this year, and I would absolutely be ecstatic to see us run something else. Someone on the bench obviously thinks this defense is good, I just can't figure it out -- and I am a relatively intelligent human.

The Tigers couldn't play defense on 5 old ladies with walkers. Also, when is the last time they set an offensive play. The last time I watched them they were Run & Gun. What were they like against Betsy Layne? How many no-look (HA HA) passes did that Bundy kid throw.
I agree with your commentary on the Tigers defense, but not so much on your analysis of their offense. The fact is, if they play defense then they don't have 9 losses, they only have about 3.
-
Well, the fact is, Paintsville is much more talented than any team in the region. After watching them at Sheldon Clark on Friday, they seem to be coming together, and are taking a much more positive approach to playing.
I guess it is yet to see if they will play to their talent level and ability. If they don't, look for a very close game, but if they do, look for a double digit win for the Tigers.

I just wanted to make it clear that this thread is a little bit funny. "Paintsville A Little Too Confident?" -- this suggests that the Tigers, with a 15-7 record, 4-2 in the District, is somehow cocky. Well, if anyone is cocky with the losses we have accrued, then there may be some mental issues that the team needs to take care of.
I hope the Tigers will rebound, and become confident, but for now, there is little to be confident about.

I agree GOPNATE! No second place trophies should be awarded! People might say it is bad sportsmanship or what not, but if you don't win, you don't win. Plain and simple. And if you don't win, then you lost. You don't need a trophy for losing. These are high school kids which most now a days are men rather than kids. I personally know a player from Paintsville's 2003 team that gave his regional runner up medal to someone that thought more of it than he did. It was an elementary student and that medal means more to him than it would to the player. A second place trophy is just a reminder that you lost!!!
It is interesting you mentioned that PVILLE GRAD -- I gave my second place medal to one of my coaches son's and I certainly don't miss it.
-
I played in the touney when I was a freshmen. It would have been great but the referees were miserable, literally. Good luck with this years, I hope everyone enjoys.
-
Well, it all depends on the ability of the player. If he is a good player, he will move "up", or he will already be "up". If he isn't a very good player, he will move at the speed necessary to continue his own individual and team achievment.
-
You cared enough to respond to my comments.
Good point, I do find myself wasting my life and time on answering these posts.
-
And in response to you:
Folks spent money for those trophies to give to Paintsville or whichever team would finish second in that tournament. As for folks cleaning up after them, it's something that could've been avoided and no one could have done a better job at hosting that tournament than the staff at Allen Central.
Wonder what BMR thinks about it? Does he think it was "their right" to throw their hardware away? Surely ol' Bill Mike would have more class than that to willingly let his team act like that?
There should be no 2nd Place trophies to begin with. Basically they say: "Congrats for being the first place loser". Nonetheless, I agree, noone should throw them away, but I must say, who really cares.

Rumor has it that when some parents from South Floyd (15th Region All "A" Chanps) tried to get rooms in Richmond for the upcoming tournament, most places had no vacancies. Come to find out, Paintsville had reserved 26 rooms down there weeks ago. OOPS!!!!
Hope they didn't put a deposit down on those rooms or it has went in File 13 where rumor has it the 2nd place trophy went.
The All "A" schedules the rooms. Confidence is a big part of success. If you don't think you are going to win, you probably won't. Geez, this is a ridiculous forum.

Ugly game!!!
Basketball Jones -- As far as I can tell, you happen to catch all of the games. Can you let me know what defenses the Tigers are running? I am more than a little concerned that in the All "A" South Floyd only had 12 turnovers. Send me a note if you don't mind. Thanks.

I'd say Paintsville, but if they really threw their trophies away after they lost the game the other night, they wouldn't even be playing in Knott Co. They dismissed a player over there for not shaking hands after a loss. Did they really throw their trophies away or is that a rumor?
They shouldn't give second place trophies anyway.
