  1. I have heard Slusher from Beechwood is getting some looks from D1..

Brett has been contacted by UC, Western KY, Ohio University, Stanford and Lehigh for football and for baseball its been UC, Wright State, Indiana, Ole Miss, Highpoint University, Ohio University, Tennessee Tech and Western KY.

  2. I thought Brett Slusher was going to the PBR futures games.... But they just posted the roster and he's not on it. Anyone have any idea why?

The AABC World Series in Texas and the PBR Future Games are going on at the same time this week. Brett is in Texas with the Tomahawks.

  3. Who are some of the best sophomores in NKY we all should be looking out for?

    My short list includes:

    1. The Beechwood gang (ofcourse)

    2. Seiter (Bellevue)

    3. Evan Slone (Ludlow)

    4. Griffin Smallwood (Dixie)

    5. Rick Raisor (Highlands)

These are some of the kids I've seen and recognize as clearly talented baseball players with a bright future.

Who else should be on this list?

    The Beechwood Sophomore Gang:

Bankemper-getting starts in outfield and quality at bats for varsity.

Combs-varsity starter since 9th grade, played for Midland only as an 8th Grader.

Fieger-varsity starter, played jv as an 8th grader.

Rowe-getting playing time at 1st and 3rd and coming off bench with some clutch

    pinch hits.

Slusher-varsity starter since 9th grade, played in a couple varsity games as a 8th grader.

Stringer-varsity starter since 9th grade, played for Midland only as an 8th grader.

  4. Ohio has the rule where 8th graders are not allowed to play high school baseball. At 14U SWOL will start their season at the same time as the high school programs. So the NKY 8th graders that play for the Ohio teams either skip the frosh games and practice when the schedule conflicts or they just don't play. As an experienced travel baseball coach of 16 plus years, I just didn't start my schedule until after the NKY high season was over. This way the kids got to play high school and have the experience and the school did most of the preseson prep for my summer teams. On the same note the very talented 8th graders stuck with the SWOL Ohio because as a previous poster stated the talent level was better, which I agree.

  5. Does anyone know Beechwoods possible starting lineup for this spring? Where do you see who playing where?

This could be the line up based on last years games.

    1) Stringer CF

    2) Suchanek SS

    3) Combs 3B

    4) Slusher LF

    5) Schimdt C

    6) Hamilton 1B

    7) Booth 2B

    8) Fieger RF/P will probably play Cf when Stringer pitches

    9) Allen / Rundle / Colosimo will depend on pitching rotation and the spots they need them to fill.

Again this is just my guess.

  6. This is not pointed at Beechwood in any way but I don't put much faith in team reported stats anyway. On several occasions last year I saw where teams reported a guy going 4-4, when there were 2 of either errors, walks or HBP's included!

If I'm not mistaken Beechwood has a bench player keep the book and I'm pretty sure they aren't the only high school following this practice.

  7. If going on pitching alone, the staff of Suchanek, Combs, Stringer, Randolph, and Fieger is going to be tough to match. Their only variable will be the lineup in the 5 slot on. If Hamilton, Schmidt and Booth all hit the way they did in 2012, that team could be special.

You forgot Brett Slusher. He hit 4th last year for Beechwood and had a monster summer hitting 2nd for the 18U Colonels.

  8. Slusher 2 run HR in the top of the 1st for BW just made it over the fence and (IMHO) was wind aided, as the CovCath CF came in a couple steps then drifted back and back and back.

Hey, Give the kid his just dues. Brett Slusher is a 15 year old freshman going up against the Cov Cath hard throwing senior 17/18 year old ace. Slusher hit a fast ball to dead center field for his first varsity homerun. So if you have to down play his accomplishment to make all your blue colonel buddies feel better, then more power to you.

When you start down playing or making excuses to make your guys feat sound better, all it does is bring out your insecurity IMHO.

Can you tell me another high school in the state that plays 3 freshman and 2 sophomores, has a record of 27 and 7 and has accomplished what this team has? I don't think so. So when a young player does something worth mentioning congratulate him. Instead of my hit was better than your hit. Again this is IMHO. Go Tigers take state!

  9. :lol2:

Definitely not wind aided..........Ramey needs no wind help.......

If they were playing CCH and he was hitting against CCH's ace, thats the only way Ramey could have hit one out (wind aided). Oh I'm sorry that would be TOG;s IMHO. Great job Todd keep it up.

  10. My personal thought on this one is the same as soccer....

I am ok bringiing any Freshman down....even if they are playing Varsity.....it is a class tourny (Freshman class)

Different feeling about the JV tourny.....if you are getting signficant V time, or have or are started (ing) then you shouldn't come down. It isn't a class tourny (FR, So, Ju, Se)

Could you imagine the pitching rotation Beechwood would have if they played all the Frosh down for the tourney.

Combs, Stringer,Slusher,Fieger,Bankamper,Rowe and Sherron. If this group stays healthy what a strong rotation Mullins will have their Senior year.

  11. Would one of the Beechwood fans/players identify the kid that pitched the last inning during yesterday's Beechwood/Ryle Varsity scrimmage? Of all of the pitching during yesterday's outing I will give props to that particular kid. Nothing against any of the other pitching as all had some pluses and minuses but all and all the last Beechwood pitcher put up a good showing... IMHO.

The last two to pitch were Stringer and Combs. Both are freshmen.

  12. Combs and Stringer have played against the top talent at their age group in the country. I think they will be able to handle varsity baseball in Nky...

Slusher started for the 16U Kentucky Colonels at 14 and was one of the top hitters in thier lineup. He held his own against many 18 year olds.

Another freshman talent for BW is Kyle Rowe, he pitched JV last year as an 8th grader.

  13. VOR you are exactly correct on every one of your points. I am certain if things don't change, basketball will lose the talent at the JV and freshman levels. These kids will chose to lift for football and workout for baseball. The same thing happen years ago when Miller was the JV coach,he just runs off the players.

Miller didn't move Beechwood up. Shumate did just before he left.

I look at performance on the court and results. Beechwood had good results and performances with 3 different coaches over the past 10+ years. The results last year and so far this year are very disappointing. If Shumate were still coaching and playing the same schedule, Beechwood would not lose by 30 points to every good team they play. They would win more than 10 games in a season against the schedule they are currently playing.

There are no obstacles at Beechwood and that statement is very far off base. Every coach at Beechwood knows it is a small school and kids need to be "shared". Coach Rash and everyone else in athletics encourage kids to play other sports and get involved in other activities.

Beechwood has enough talent to be competitive.
