  1. If anybody can post updates here on the game please do so. The Vikings are here in FL again and don't of course have access to the game info. btw we will have two thophys coming back to somerset. The place as to either runner up or third place won't be decided untill tomorrow.

  2. Your memory is correct. I do like the idea of Bucs Jets combo playing what would be the future Maroons and Warriors.

Both leagues are very strong in their own right. The local LCYFL teams are more concentrated with talent having only two teams in each class--pee wee, Jr's, and Sr's. The county league has many more teams in each class as their teams are built around the students respective school. Due to the county league talent more widespread I would give the one on one edge to the LCYFL if one of our teams (Jets or Bucs) played any one of their teams (Burnside, Southern, Oak Hill, Nancy, Pulaski, Shopville, Science Hill, and Woodstock-Eubank combined). It however would be very interesting if we combined the Jets and Bucs and then played either the South All-Stars or the North All-Stars. You would then basically have future Somerset vs. future SW or Pulaski. I do recall 3-4 years ago the LCYFL Jets playing the PCYFL Oak Hill team (which I do believe was the PCYFL Super Bowl Champs). The Jets won by 3-4 touchdowns if memory served me correct.
  3. Very well said Jumper1. I also to jump on another point you made become to involved with my feelings on certian issues with the team I guess well should say know that comes from involvement with the team.

I don't think that anyone from Pulaski that will carefully read the Hines article can have much of a defense for him. It has increasingly become obvious that he stated several mistruths. As for Cobb, IMO he didn't jab at Pulaski any, Cobb took full responsibility for his teams defeat.
  4. My turn. Since I have alot of respect for Johnny Hines' gameplan against the Jumpers and the success his team had on Friday, you can't take the victory away from the kids any way you look at it. Yes the conditions weren't the best (for any of the 4 teams) and the locker room situation was what it was BUT I'm saddened by Coach Hines' remarks on behalf of the program. It was tasteless at best and to the point of classless. It was obvious that the SHS was to blame for lack of preparation but these kids have played with and against each other for many years all for the love of the game.

Following PC football for years, I can say that we haven't done a great job of accommodating the fans/ teams either. Until now all of our visitors walked the track to sit in bleachers they couldn't even see from. Let's be honest here, the best venue for the CORRELL BOWL is the SHS stadium. First, Ray Correll wasn't anything but a Jumper. Second, everyone had the opportunity to have a great seat for the games.

Personally, I thought both teams were pitiful on defense and neither should be too proud of their effort.

Also, to see our fans and players overly excited about an injured player does reflect leadership. Would we have been upset if Winston went down or Chris Muse and the fans on the other side went crazy? Something to think about. Should we expect Somerset to come out in 2 years and try to hurt Muse?

For the record, didn't Chris play in Somerset's feeder program as a youth? These kids like each other more than the adults. It was a great victory on the field but the saddest day for PC football. Apologies should be in order, but there's too much pride in the way. Both sides.

Yes Chris Muse did yes did in fact play for the Somerset feeder program. Hey played for Joe Ford's Jets team at LCYFL and traveled to Florida to play with the Lake Cumberland Vikings at the National Youth Football Campionships in Daytona Beach for 5 years. Won a National Runner-Up and National Championship with those teams. Don't believe me aske him and look at the paper too where he said he play for a quarterback for Joe Ford. Also feel free to drop by Rocky Hollow I will be happy to show you the photos of him on those teams in Florida and also the plack he gave Joe after his 6th grade season as a Jet. The LCYFL is the Somerset feeder program, but is open as it always has been to any child in Pulaski County. Cole Draughn played in the same league also for Joe Ford..... That does not take away from him at all he is great young man and an outstanding athlete he played a awsome game no doubt about it.

  5. Outstanding Jumper1. I could not have said that better at all.

They continue to play because of the revenue this event puts in their athletic programs. Also add that both SW and PC are basically getting another home game type atmosphere every year on there schedule without taking away a home game from there schedule. Thus one less away game that they have to travel to or one more home game, however you want to look at it. I like the Ray Correll Bowl and the way it is put on. I think that all involved benefit from the event both financially and from the fan stand point. I'm not for sure if Pulaski helps any with the coordination but do know that SW helps tremendously with there JROTC program working the parking detail. For those of you who went would say that is no small task with all of the people that attended--would like to know a figure. As for your statement suggesting Somerset jumped classes to avoid competition, we could argue this until the Guru personally makes a trip to Somerset and unplugs our computers himself. Somerset still has the likes of Breathitt Co, Russell, Prestonsburg, and Belfry to deal with on a yearly basis. PC has beaten Somerset 2 out of 3 times in the Ray Correll Bowl, anyone with any football sense looking from the outside would say that PC should beat Somerset most of the time each teams play, as of yet this has not happened (overall record). This is a true testiment to how well the Somerset program is and the support it gets from the community- a much smaller school annually competing with much larger schools. You claim that the article sais what many others wanted to say, please tell me what this is? Imo this bowl is a class act bowl that showcases all three local school in one night. Johnny has done nothing more than try to start an uproar among the two programs, his problems should have been handled between the two AD's, not the Commonwealth Journal. What were going to get now is people taking cheap shots at each other in the Opinion section of the paper.
  6. After some checking into the issue of dressing. Since the 2004 Ray Correll Bowl PC has shown up on the bus dressed ready to go out on the field as has SWHS. Rock in this case, but also Danville and Russell Co when they where in the bowl got the other locker room to dress in as they had the furtherset distance to the bowl. How this is an issue with Johnny driving all of what I think 1500 feet is beyond me. Its not like when the lighting delay happened he was told to stand out in the rain. No he used the locker room which was empty from the first game. He also used the same locker room for his halftime so there we go.

I'd think the lack of a dressing area would be of more concern than the field condition?? At least give them a classroom or something?? Concerning Sears, if he choses to constantly bring attention to himself like he does; you'd better expect the attention it brings!!
  7. I bleieve you are correct

Rock was not fed either, well not by Somerset anyway. Rock's administration delivered 30 pizza's to the locker room after the game, they were already waiting on the players after the game. Somerset had no involvment in that. Also it mentions in the article that Somerset may decide to play PC next year. It is already a 2 year contract, PC plays Rock next year and Somerset plays SWHS.
  8. Actually no SHS players are fed before the game and not after. Even on road trips they have give only a sack lunch mean on the trip home. Now once again I have no idea what the deal is before games or what Jay and Johnny talked/agreed on. If a mean is part of the deal then yes be upset if not or was told it was not wanted or needed then there you go.

The field was pretty bad. More of a Dust Bowl, than a Ray Correll Bowl.

And if Somerset said they would feed the PC team after the game, they should have. I'm sure those PC kids were just as hungry as the SHS kids, and I'm sure the SHS kids got fed. Everyone should be treated the same. Whether it be a locker room, a meal, or whatever. Do that, and there shouldn't be any backlash. This is what gives schools bad names and causes animosity between the organizations.

  9. I agree with Jumper1 and will not talk about the locker room situation since I am not involved with that aspect of SHS and am not in on that decision making and will let the other talk about that. Johnny needs to get a life on some issues if they are the biggest issues he has and if they are insurmountable then get out of the bowl all together have his own bowl at his field whoopee freaking heeee. Do I want that no, but that man has issues many way to many. I know things weren't perfect for him at the games and some are things I'm sure that should have not happened and should be fixed even, but why were they in the paper. There are these things call the phones. Wow what an invention. He needs to call, yeah call the administration at Somerset and I don't know talk to them with the "real problems" of his game this past Friday. #1 the field. Last I checked humm this oh I don't know freaking 100+ temps are not helping this issue with that field. It was redone. Is it perfect? No it’s not, not at all. If this was last year maybe just maybe the it would have turned out fine for the game, but it didn't. Got a big issue with it sorry it happened that way its the past move on.... #2 walking around the track. Well we are not alone with that walk around the track as pointed by others here. Sorry there is not maroon brick path to walk on. Now once PC spends $250,000.00 on its track you'll see who gets to walk on that to the visitor bleacher, oh yeah what visitor side...... #3 Johnny sorry you are not the coach at SHS where you went to school. Get over it blasting the place is not how to get a job there or get back at them for not having a job there. #4 What would be a bigger game? Humm oh I don't know playing for the state semi-finals two years in a row. Yeah I would say that's more important. How many have you played for......? Oh yeah none.......

  10. Its odd Somerset has a lot of the teams PC played last year on there schedule now and I wonder who will win those... HMMM.....

Congratulations PC. At least now maybe we can be spared the arrogance and gloating from the purple and gold at least for the rest of this season. As a poster on one thread stated that they predict Somerset would still go 7-3 and Pulaski 3-7, Schedule? Schedule? Schedule?
  11. You proably heard them on the radio. They moved there from the PA side a couple of years ago when we moved in.

... Not being a jumper I did not realize that they had left. They did do a good job. I thought I heard them both last year, at least part of the time during last years Ray Correll Bowl. But if you say no I guess you would know. All you Jumpers sound alike to me... ...Nevertheless you guys do a good job too. All we want is a good called game. As stated, if you all need any help from us, do not hesitate...We're the new school across town in Pulaski County. SWHS...:thumb:
  12. No not as of yet when I was there this afternoon at around 3 no new speakers where there yet. Nobody know is if the guys who were coming to look and speck out the new stuff had been there or not. I talked to Bob about that and I'llr remind him in the morning as to what is due there and when.

elwhit95, did the new pa speakers come in today? Do they sound any better than the vintage speakers we have now?
