Mercer's D has been solid, what kind of O do the Maroons run?
Hope MJ mixes it up a little, this week. Aweful predictable last week.:walk:

Well, let's try this again. Guy's keep it to the game
Mercer' D was great, Offense had nothing, dive, dive, counter, counter and the hurried pass. Not much outside the tackles tonite for Mercer. If we are going to compete in 5A, we will have to add the passing game, at least a couple passes every now and then to keep people honest.
Lincoln D was great, offense at least had a little variety. QB had alot of dropped balls.

Mercer had 0 offense tonight, we will have to mix it up, if we are going to compete in 5A.

Coldweather I am with you, to be successful, I believe Nathan and Matthew have to have alot more touches.
Horn and Buster had huge games, they could play anywhere. Horn really showed good leadership. He's from a long line of Mercer Co LB's.

Do you remember in 75 when a Mercer player broke lose on a kickoff return and Henry Parks ran over him like a freight train on about the Harrodsburg 35? The Mercer player had 15-20 yards on everyone. It didn't take Henry Parks long to make up the difference.
It's good to have those guys on the same team now!
I also remember a young man bringing us water out. We might not have been the best team, but we sure had a lot of fun and made good memories.

Your dad came to a play-off game, and me and several other ex-players had a good trip down memory lane with him.

That would have been their most talented team if Nicky Yeast had not broken his leg early in the year and been lost for the season. Their only loss in the regular season was to Boyle County on a "hook and lateral" play at the end.
Imagine a healthy Yeast (Tank) with Henry Parks, Venus Meaux and Gus Parks. :scared:
I was also at the Boyle game, we were off that day (Mercer) and we went over to watch. Man that was a great game. I beleive the next year H-burg beat them really, really bad.

I also felt that had real problems with defenses that had tough ends/corners that would break up the blocking and get to the back. At Boyle some of the success Rall had against Alvis was because he had DE's that blew up the power sweeps and off tackles by just holding their ground.
The biggest example of what you said Network is Frankfort. Alvis' 2 best teams by sheer talent were '76 and '77. (Henry and Gus Parks, Nick Yeast, Venus Meaux) Frankfort had just as much quickness and a Great D Line that matched Harrodsburg's talent well. Raymond Webb always had them ready and beat them both years in the A Regional when the Pioneers were ranked #1 going into the playoffs.
If my memory is correct, I was at the '76 game, when the H-burg center snapped it over Henry's head, to give Frankfort the win. It was one of the coldest games I had ever been to.

If it wasn't Johnson's idea, he sure perfected it. They beat the crap out of us every year with it.
With the horses he had back then, he could have ran about any offense. Shame they never won it all.

As a Russell fan I think Mercer did have an advantage. You can say Harrodsburg was small and barely had enough for a football team. But then you look at what Mercer got from those limited numbers. Alot of speed and with alot of Varsity experience. That sure didn't hurt.
As for the state championship. It was a tough game between two evenly matched teams that could have gone either way with a different break here or there. It was very entertaining although not very satisfying from the Russell point of view.
Do I agree with the KHSAA's decision? No I don't. Do I understand it? Yes I do. Do I feel like Russell got robbed. Maybe, but they had every opportunity to win that game and none of it would have mattered. Mercer won under the circumstances that were given and they earned the AA state title.

If you all new the whole facts about the kicking game. You would understand that it takes three. A good snap, a good hold, and a good kick. Russell kicker had 7 PAT's that he actually missed when he put a foot on it. The other where due to a bad snap or a dropped hold. Plus you can not mess with a kickers head when one time he kicks and the other time he dont ????????
The FG was called with over 8 min left in the 3rd Qtr. This game was lost due to the terrible play calling by the coaches ?????????????
Mercer fans, could not understand why Russell did not run #24 at us all day.

Alot of upset Mercer and Russell folks, both bands were late. Mercer's band walked in from Crittenden Dr.

5A Mercer won 2A Championship Game ....
Next year let's put Trinity in 2a to give the legit 2a schools someone else to shoot at ... Devils almost did it and really gave it away , to the 5a power .. who next year will have to buy a ticket to get into the finals or semi finals .. we will be watching and posting ...

And as to the antics of some Mercer fans, coaches and players...........hey we won a big game, against the mighty Russsell, defending 2A champs, something we have been working for 10-12 years to accomplish, excuse our excitement. :banana: :banana: :banana: :banana: :banana: :banana:
I bet some Mercer fans, players and coaches have their own stories of some Russell antics, but they have kept them to themselves.

You Mercer faithful just have to be best in everything. You could have said the frazier kid is quick. Go gloat. If a Russell fan were to say the sky is blue you would say no it looks more red. Some of you are pathetic.
It's was although nice to see that the players and coaches are a class act.

Amen, Joe. You and me have seen alot at Mercer, and this very small group of parents, are the worst and most embrassing:cool: , that I have seen ( and believe me I have seen my share). I hope the singling out of kids stops.
