  1. Well one of the coaches they are not interviewing knocked the favorite for the job out of the playoffs and the other beat Madison Central 2 out of his 3 years he coached against them.

I'm not saying these two deserve the job, but to say they are not to be interviewed because they are a threat to the good ole boys is a joke.

OK, Johnny Hines is one, I can decipher that, but who is the other that went 2-1 against Madison?

  2. With the way the administration handled the Gandolfo and Turner firings, and this watered down list of candidates nothing suprises me there anymore. With the season Feldhaus is having, he should be next in line per the school's recent track record. The Central sports program as a whole is a joke now.

And I am not expecting Dale Mueller, Bob Beatty, or Dudley Hilton to leave their respective programs for this job, but Doug Carter is one of the finalists? Seriously? His record at Madison Southern was awful while playing a much much weaker schedule then he would face at MC. I have a hard time believing that list of finalists is the absolute best of the best who applied for job, with all personal agendas aside.

    Facts:

Madison girls basketball team is ranked 5th in the state BG preps poll, they are 18-1, 1 1/2 seasons removed from the Gandolfo firing.

Doug Carter was 43-44 as head coach at Southern for 8 seasons. They were 3-27 the three seasons before he was there, and have gone 1-19 since he left. (according to KHSAA website)

    Opinion:

Carter is a good football coach based on his record and extensive experience.

  3. Hey Bear you are right about Carter, but in his defense his last two years killed his record, but before that he was well over .500. and got them three playoff wins, before that Elkin was a consistant winner, he was always winning games and to this day lost what was probably the best playoff game this area has ever seen. Chuck Smith was even quoted a few years back saying that that was the most exciting playoff game he ever coached in. Boyle won that game with 30 seconds to go in the regional final. The "ELKIN" mentality is what Madison Southern has not had over the past 10 years. As tough as he was his players would have run through a wall for that guy.

Teddy Taylor killed Madison Southern. That guy had no clue...where's he at...oh yeah CENTRAL. He doesn't even show up for their meeting on Saturdays for coach Turner and that is a fact. All he does now is walk up and down sideline yelling like he knows what is going on. He was a great player, and was able to get coaching jobs on his name alone.

Anyway, "Fairly Successful" you can argue that...but its fair.

I really like this argument, given the fact that Mike Elkin was the head coach at Madison Central from 1982-1992 before he took over at Southern from 1993-1998:rolleyes:

  4. A lot of the alumni and players parents I know aren't real happy with the program right now, but they aren't the ones that make the decisions on these things.

The school has won one playoff game since 2000(in the second round that year they were beat 60-18), so what do they expect at South Laurel? They have had one good team in 1999 (thanks to Neil Warren) and since then havent really done anything.

Also, I think that overall their district is tougher this year than it has been in years past when they were playing in the Mountain 4A district.

  5. The only way the teams would give up is if the coaches give up on them.

That being said, North will probably struggle. South, who knows? They will win some games, but I don't feel they are as well coached as in years past.

And you make this observation after one game?

I have been reading your comments about SL and East Jessamine for the past 4-5 months...they are always so negative about the coaches...I for one hope that both teams and their staffs prove you wrong!

  6. Manual already had to play the best. Was the only team in the state that played all the Big 3 every year. We aren't afraid of competition, and we WANT to get better.

There's a difference between tough and impossible, though. And this crosses that line.

Now, they have to play 4 games in a row, on the road, against the three schools that have won 16 of the past 18 state titles.

Both situations are impossible for a team in this state. In fact, I think one of the Big 3 would actually have a better chance of getting past Atherton with no offensive line than going undefeated against Manual's schedule in the playoffs.

I did some research and found out that Manual has only won two playoff games since 1996, and never gotten past the 2nd round. They do not seem to be having much playoff sucess against the other district. Maybe now they will have some againt their own.

I didnt research their regular season records, but I would bet they have beaten X and Male at least twice in that span. I remember them beating Trinty a few years ago. I realize its a tougher road, but is anything really going to change for them?

This move does make sense in the fact that 1st round games will have more fans, becasue of less travel and more rivalries. It will also cut down on transportation costs for some, especailly in WKY.

Im not sure what the real motive here was, but its still football and although someones road may be tougher, its not SOO much tougher that they should just give up....
