  1. After we (Lynn Camp) played Somerset in the regular season I said that Somerset would be playing in Louisville at the end of the season. This win by Hazard seems to have made the path a bit easier, especially since they now get to play the region championship game at home. I predict Somerset wins this game and also defeats whoever comes to town for the Semifinal game next week.

  2. I have heard that Lynn Camp may try to move the Whitley County game to the Sept. 21 date and try to fill the Oct. 12 Date. If that doesn't work out then they will have to fill the Sept. date. They could also keep the Sept. 21 date open and fill the Oct. 5 date, but that is a last resort because that is the week of their fall break and they don't like to play that week.

If any school has one of those dates open they should try to contact coach Mitchell at Lynn Camp to work something out. I know he worked hard to get the schedule finished early because he was worried about finding the extra non-district games.

  3. I know many of these teams are still playing and not quite ready to think about next year, but we are not and I am. So I will ask anyone with any knowledge of what these teams have coming back to give me a little preview. I know Western has the top rushing offense in the state, but I don't know what they have coming back. I thought Cumberland had a lot of seniors, but I may be mistaken. Campbellsville was a little down this year, but I think they were young, so they will probably be improved. We played them a couple of times back in the 90's and they beat us pretty convincingly.

I personally believe Lynn Camp will be much improved next year, assuming a good offseason (which we didn't get last year). We still may not have a great record early but we should be good come playoff time.

  4. I'm sitting here without a playoff game to worry about so I thought I would go ahead and get next years schedule out. I'm pretty sure about the dates, but I may have some of the sites reversed. I was glad to see that we were able to keep some of our traditional rivals while incorporating the new district games.

I am curious as to his yards per carry, he seems to carry the ball probably twice as much as anyone else. But regardless.....a 400+ yd game is pretty darn impressive, even if you do carry 40 times (10 yds per carry)..

Joe for the season has 172 carries for 1350 yards, which is about 7.8 yards per carry.

  6. Class A Region 4

    District 7

    Evarts

    Lynn Camp

    Harlan

    Cumberland

    Williamsburg

    Pineville

The only major change in this district is the loss of Somerset. Also, Evarts and Cumberland are supposed to consolidate with Cawood in the near future which will cost everyone some traditional rivalry games.

    District 8

    South Floyd

    Allen Central

    Phelps

    Hazard

    Paintsville

    Jenkins

The big change here is the loss of Pikeville. An interesting note, region 4 has 12 of the 37 teams listed for Class A. There would probably be some small districts elswhere unless there was some type of realignment.

  7. What about the Neace kid (I think that is his name)? He is supposed to be a very good OL for LC this year and will be a senior this fall.

Lynn Camp had some of their kids who didn't participate for some reason or another (out of town, injuries, etc.). Some of those who did compete finished just outside placing. James Neace, who is a two year starter at OT, did not participate because he is coming off an injury. He broke some bones in his hand the first day of spring practice. He is out of his cast, but he was not ready for the contest.

  9. Congratulations Coach Elam and Pineville. I believe this will be a good situation for both. Coach Elam has an offensive system that he believes in and will sell to the kids and community. If he is given time to develop his players, he can turn things around at Pineville. I look forward to seeing him in the future.

  10. I don't remember what it was exactly, but at last year combine at Lynn Camp Jimmy was at around 40 inch vertical leap.

According to the official results of the Lynn Camp combine, Jimmy had a 40 inch vertical jump. I believe that was the second highest behind the Blackwood kid from Corbin. I think his was 40.5 or 41. Jimmy is seriously athletic. I've seen him do things in practice that most people just can't do.

  11. At Lynn Camp the football and baseball coaches work well together on this issue. The football team puts off practice until about 5:00 while baseball practice is directly after school. Any baseball player who wants to participate in spring practice will just come over to the practice field after baseball practice is over. They are usually a little late but it has worked pretty well. We have had baseball players who chose not to participate in spring practice which is their option. It doesn't usually affect their playing status. In general, the kids are eager to get over to football practice. This doesn't have to be such a devisive issue if both coaches are willing to compromise a little.

  12. Highly doubtful, he will most definitely redshirt this year.

I hope Jimmy does redshirt this year. It will give him a chance to adjust to the system and to college life. He will also be able to compete in practice and participate in the weight and conditioning program. Jimmy is 5' 11" and I believe he can carry 200 # on his frame without losing any speed, possibly even gaining some. If you have seen him, you know he is a football player, not just an athlete. He will contribute to the program. He wanted to go to UK and play for the Cats. He had the opportunity so he took it. He gets to go to college where he wanted and keep playing a game that he loves so I don't see where people say that is a mistake.

  13. Love the way Chaffin plays but don't think UK is the place for him. Doesn't he weigh about 165 soaking wet? Good luck to an excellent player.

Chaffin is a solid 185-190 now. He played in the low to mid 180's this season. He told me the a few days ago that he had gained about 8 pounds of muscle since football season ended. He also has legitmate 4.5 speed electronically timed at the Michigan camp last summer. He will be a player at UK if he continues to work hard.

  14. Here is a list I was given. I believe these are the kids who were elected by the coaches. I'm sure more players will be added later.

  15. I'm pretty close to the Lynn Camp program and I haven't heard anything about anyone transferring in or out. People always talk about Joe leaving but I would be surprised if that happened. Lynn Camp will probably have the best line in the history of the school next year, and with the way LC runs the ball, Joe will be in line for a possible 2000 yard season. I don't think he could go anywhere else and get the kind of carries he will get behind nearly as good a line. If one of these other kids like Wagner, Bray, Abner or Simpson can come along as a viable second option and with the running ability that Jonah Mitchell has, it will be difficult to key everyone on Joe. I believe LC will be fine on offense, defense will be the key to the season. They are returning 5 players up front that got significant playing time this season, two linebackers who started at one time or another, and 3 defensive backs who started at least 2 games this season. Some of these players will be young and they need a good offseason, but the cubbard is surely not bare. ( I have also heard that some of the athletes in basketball and some other sports may be willing to give football a shot this year which would boost the overall team speed and depth instantly.)

  16. For Lynn Camp:

    Jimmy Chaffin-139 carries-1550 yards

    Joe Roskopf-138 carries-1139 yards

    Josh Reynolds-130 carries-900 yards

Joe only played in 10 games because of injury, Jimmy and Josh played in twelve. That's an average of about 9 yards per carry between them. As good as each of those guys are, I feel like we shouldn't overlook their offensive line. This was one of the best front fives Lynn Camp has ever had. The good news is that four of the five were juniors.
