  1. Look for this group of young men to make an impact in summer league this year. Composed of graduates and few seniors from BBHS, NCC, and CCHS, this team is extremely experienced and great competitors. Currently they are in Charlestown, SC for a tournament with a scrimmage game against East Cobb Thursday. Big local game will be against the Colonels on June 25(?) at Newport Central Catholic's field.

  2. I think it will be closer too, but I also thought that the Mayfield game two years ago would be a tight game... It's December and the Bred's are riding a 14 game playoff winning streak. My prediction goes NCC 24 FC 10. I just don't see FC scoring much on NCC and NCC might finally decide to play four quarters. Good luck to both teams. I hope the best team wins. Hopefully this game isn't decided by injuries or the zebras. Everyone drive safely with this weather.:thumb:

  3. College doesn't always mean more money or better facilities. There are many high schools with better facilities than a lot of college jobs.

Why do coaches stay as asst coaches for 20 years. Because being an assistant at many schools is better than being a head coach.

Idk if you have ever seen Newcath's facilities, but lets just say there is no stadium, the practice field resembles the Sahara desert on a good day, and the weight room is comparable to a walk in closet.

That being said, I believe he stays at the high school level because he loves molding teenagers into men. At he stays at Ncc because... well... why leave? He's got a good thing at Ncc. He teaches AP English, has a good turnout of players every year, great athletes, great assistant coaches, exceptional support from the administration and the community, and he's winning consistently.

  4. It would be amazing to see a 6A title come to NKY. To my knowledge I don't remember a 6A/4A team from NKY that has won state in that division. Can anyone correct me on that? The closest I saw was in '92 when we won and Boone lost to St. X. Any chance they have that in their mind and are hoping for some revenge? 6A has to be the toughest road to a state title. I am impressed with several 6A schools in NKY. I hope that someday one will be able to challenge the talent in the Ville.

As for HHS, this is a very special team. I hope they stay on their toes, if so, no one can touch them.

Beechwood's best thing that ever happened to them was NCC moving to 2A. They have a select few that will challenge their immense talent that is jam-packed into such a small school. Very Impressive!

NCC- The fact is, they have stumbled a few times this year and managed to pull out wins. I have heard many people say negative comments about the Breds, but you have to look at the fact that even when they don't play their best football, they still win. That is the point. A win is a win, even if done ugly. I think that NewCath, like any other Dynasty teams(HHS, Trinity, Beechwood, X, BG) know when the chips are down and its time to turn it up a notch.

Here is something to any of you seniors that may read this. This is your last chance. This could be your last chance to ever play football again in your life. You are going to remember these memories for the rest of your life and even 10, 20, 30 years from now you are still going to be sharing those memories with friends, family, children, etc. Your future is what you make it. Why not have some sweet stories to share. It would feel pretty neat to say you were on a Dynasty team, were part of No 17, Dethroned the No 5 team in the country, Added another trophy into the already full case in Ft Mitchell. Aside from the rings, the huge patch on the jackets, and getting to go to Frankfort and meet the Governor, there is a sense of pride and confidence that will stay with you forever. No matter your role on that team, even if you were a tackling dummy(like I was and we've all been at some point). No one is insignificant in the role they play in achieving victory. No one can ever take that away from you. Good luck boys and we would love to see 4 trophies brought back and are already proud of you for how far you have gotten to represent NKY well.

When did they stop the bolded practice above? It is a neat idea, in the same token as Super Bowl winners meeting the President. It hasn't happened for Ncc the last two years. Maybe someone else has an idea? However, the Cincinnati Bengals were gracious enough to introduce them in 2005 at a timeout during a game. The Bengals offered again in '06, but scheduling conflicts made it impossible.

To stay on topic I'd pick 2. My heart says 3, but there is a lot of football left to be played and numerous things can happen to cause either Ncc, Beechwood, or HHS to lose. Even though it appears they are all favored to win their respective classes, when the teams actually play the game, all of these posts and votes mean squat. Good luck to all teams for making it this far and hopefully there will be four state championship football teams in NKY come Christmas. Impressive considering no teams in 3A or 4A.:dancingpa

  5. I personally hate the idea of only letting the top two teams from each district advance. As someone stated earlier making the playoffs means getting an opportunity to make something happen. I don't know many high school seniors that wouldn't want to strap up one last time after the regular season. Even if that team is playing the number one team in the district that beat them by 50 earlier in the regular season. I think a team should get fired up to leave it all out on the field in quite possibly the last football game they will ever play. The winter is always long when you lose in the first round.

Also let us not forget that just last year NCC was 5-5 heading to the playoffs as a 3 seed. Should they have not gotten a chance to win a state championship? Do we just say too bad you should have played better in the district? IMO, anytime there is a game with seniors playing with a sense of desperation and with desire to play football for just one more week, anything can happen.

  6. If you hadd to hold to give your qb time to throw....it didn't happen.

I disagree. I believe the touchdown still would have happened had the holding penalty not occured. Its not rare for linemen to hold unneccessarily. Also my point wasn't to challenge the holding call, it was to say that the one passing td was a misleading statistic because the 'breds were doing a fine job passing and had another touchdown called back. As for a prediction my heart says Ncc and my head says Ryle. Not having seen Ryle makes it all the harder. However I will say that Ryle is probably the toughest team on their schedule and I look for it to be a low-scoring hard fought game. I agree with a previous poster that a couple big plays (turnovers and special teams) might decide the game. Good luck both teams.

  7. There are multiple Chris Grossers at NCC. Is this the one from St. Thomas? If so, he would make a great wide out! In FTJFL he and Kues were a formidable passing combo for the Greenies! And congrats to Robbie Kues for a FABULOUS DEBUT!

This is the one who went to St. Thomas. He's an incredible athlete on the soccer field and the baseball diamond. He also came up and a made a tackle on one of his kickoffs that wasn't bouncing through the back of the endzone.

  8. Lets keep the comments to the game . I thought Kues threw the ball very well . What really impressed me was NCC's kicking game , the punting , placekicking and kickoffs were exceptional . Playing soccer obviously helps .

The punter is senior Johnny Pabst, who plays linebacker and also punted well last year. The kicker is Junior Chris Grosser, soccer kid playing his first year of football. All of his kickoffs were to the goaline except one or two inside the 5. He also made field goals of 37 and 25 yards (if I remember correctly), and was 5/5 on PAT's. He looked a little rusty at the Dixie scrimmage, but as to be expected when going from a round ball to a pointy ball.

  9. I love seeing the enthusiasm for a program and NCC homers coming out of the woodwork, even if it it the preseason. From what I saw at the Holmes scrimmage this is a very talented group that seems to be gelling quickly. I think 7-3, give or take a game is my best guess after only seeing one scrimmage. This is more in tribute to a cut-throat schedule then to the team's quality. Too early to get a good feel of how deep they are until they play some of the 6A teams on the schedule. After tonight I think everyone will have a better feel of how good this team is. And hopefully IT IS the greatest team NCC has ever seen. I could think of nothing that would please me more. Go prove me wrong, I would be delighted to eat crow if they go 14-1 only losing to Beechwood.

  10. NCC coaches play this as "game conditions". They have spotters in the press box with head phones to the field. Just like game conditions.

To the Dixie coaches, just another scrimmage.

Yes, but its a tune up for the coaches too. You wouldn't want to get the headphones out for the first game and realize it isn't working properly. Even the spotters should get a game for practice before the real thing so why not?

  11. Which is why I posted what I did. I am not sold on CC being a top ten team yet either. Will they be? Probably, but before the results of week one come in you won't hear me saying so.:D

Bonus question - Can anybody tell me which team is grasping air behind the red jersey with the ball in my avatar? :D

The decal-less helmets hint at maybe a scrimmage game before the season. Also the gold pants are a trademark of some team in NKY. I just can't put my finger on it though.
