Sweet, if you'll read through the posts, it was mentioned that the family was not moving, but rather, the boy is going to move in with his brother who lives in Ft Thomas. Residency is not, by itself, enough according to KHSAA rules. Shooter simply read the transfer rule regarding guardianship and interpreted that it would not be allowed. IF the family moves to Ft Thomas, this is a moot point.

  2. If you read the KHSAA rules that I posted earlier, doesn't it seem that this is not a "done deal" as far as being allowed to participate in athletics at Highlands? If its true that he's moving in with his brother, then what I read is that the KHSAA will not grant him the right to play. It clearly says that just because his brother assumes some sort of guardianship, he is still not allowed to play. In order to play, his parents must be deemed unfit. I'm going to assume that they're good people, so that reason is out.

Am I missing something here? If his family does not move, the way I'm reading it is that the KHSAA will not allow him to play.

    Am I wrong?

Here's the link again - read section 6 and tell me if I'm interpeting this correctly?

I know KHSAA will certainly bring it up. But doesn't the question linger in the back of you head?

It is something to THINK ABOUT, not meant to discuss!!!

Help me out, Juggs. I'm not sure what your asking/saying. Are you saying that this topic is hot because it involves 'an awesome athlete ' from Sk going to Highlands? What will KHSAA 'certainly bring up'? What question might 'linger in the back of my head'?

I've reviewed it a few times and I still have trouble finding it when I go to their site.

Now that you've found it, does it seem that its not as simple as simply moving in with your brother? Man, I hope this has been squared away. While I'm never looking for Highlands to get any better, I'd hate to see it at the expense of the kid.

Of course, if he wants a good Catholic education, I know of a school that also plays football.......

  5. Here is a link from the KHSAA website rulebook regarding transfers. If I understand correctly that the young man is moving in with his brother, ie change of guardianship, Section C is quite interesting. It may not be as simple as simply moving in and/or changing guardianship. There has to be a just reason for such change (I'm starting to sound like an attorney). Hopefully, this has been looked into and the kid doesn't get in a jam.

Also, any transfer requires a tranfer form to be filled out.

Just like in Cool Hand Luke when they say 'if my man says he can eat fifty eggs, he can eat fifty eggs", if Oldbird says its a done deal, its a done deal.

Of course that was in jest. The Jackson folks seem to think that no one in NKY, Lexington, or Louisville know they exist, thus, no respect for the Haddix's of the world.

If you work hard enough you will learn what you need and graduate. In college it is similar, I can learn about any subject of my choice at just about any school of my choice. Take for instance NKU and Yale, if I work hard enough I will learn and graduate from both places. Would my degree from NKU carry the same weight as a degree from Yale??? Unfortunately not.

Blood, if you're saying that you can learn the same at both Yale and NKU but Yale helps you because of their reputation, I agree. However, I don't think that logic applies to high school , regardless if you're talking about athletics or academics.

Athletics: If the kid can play, he'll be seen at SK just like Highlands. Its not like he's stuck in the mountains in say, Jackson, where not many people get to see him.

Academics: Only applies for a college example - not high school.

Are you telling me that SK cannot prepare a good student for college? Is there something there preventing him from achieiving his degree in college? It sounds like it worked out alright for the other boys in his family.

I'm not criticizing his decision. I trust that he and his family have thought this through. However, call me a cynic, but to say this is as much or more of an academic decision is crazy. I know that Scott High School has an excellent AP program. Why didn't he decide to go there? He wouldn't have to move. Could it be their football program struggles as much as SK's?

As we all would, he wants to play for a team that can contend. Good luck to him and I look forward to watching my team match up with him and the Birds.

Who knows? Maybe he'll be so busy with homework that he won't have time to play any sport.

Take a position, Namecips. Do you think he's going there for academic reasons or for football reasons? Do you think if SK has had a higher level of success in football that his family would be moving?

As I stated earlier, if he goes by the KSHAA rules, there is nothing wrong with him wanting to change schools to get a better chance of getting college paid for. Its a decision that he and his family will have to make. Is he willing to leave his friends for football? Would I make the same decision? Hard to say without walking in the kid's shoes.

This is a football decision only. The strong academics at Highlands are nothing more than a bonus.

Great to hear that Jordan is a very good student. Your implication is that SK cannot offer him the academic challenge that he needs, thus, he needs to move to Highlands' school district. I find that hard to believe.

If he wants to go to Highlands to play on a good football team, I see no problem with that. If his family wants that for him and is willing to move, good for Jordan. If it improves his chances of playing in college, its a good move.

Just don't try to tell us that its for academic reasons. I know of several good students that have come out of SK.

Unless his family is moving to Ft Thomas, he won't be playing there next year. He'd have to sit out a year according to the state rules regarding transfers.
