Every year, just like this year, there are discussions about long bus rides for this team or that team.

Not even considering the length of travel, should Semi-State games be played at neutral sites?

I'd think at this point there are more than enough turf fields around the state that field conditions wouldn't be an issue. Have 20 or so fields ready for the 12 games, and chose the fields that would make the most logical sense between the two schools.

I feel like it's been discussed before on here that several states, do play Semi-State at neutral sites.

    No

I am not hating on the current coaches, I just don't think they will be around when Ryle wins a state championship.

    You do in many posts.

But to go back to the question at hand, the simple answer is when the private schools play in their own division. That would reduce a lot of the big competition that the NKY big schools need to compete with in the later rounds.

There’s definitely the chance of something similar to a Bullitt East 2022 run. I could see that out of Ryle the next couple years or Cooper in 2025 if they move to 6A the next realignment (I think that’s when the next realignment is).

Outside of those two scenarios, I don’t see it in the near future.

I know it was before Kentucky went to six classes but the Ryle team that made the finals when Bryson Warner was the head coach was very good and played a respectable game against Trinity in the finals.

If that Ryle team had an offensive philosophy in general or had the coaches to teach the technique of their power run identity, they certainly had the talent to compete with Trinity that year. The defense held early but was on the field a ton. I wonder what would happen if that team could be fielded with the current coaching staff at Ryle. You hate on the current coaches but I see so much more from their offense having followed them for 20+ years.

I am new this season to following Dixie football as my primary team.  I have a son in the band, so I've been at every game but 1.

Dixie definitely looks the part with their players.  They are overall big, & physical with decent speed and quickness.  They have some dudes.

Now, coaching has been questionable all year, especially defensively.  Dixie loves to rush 7 and sometimes 8 and play press man coverage.  That has burned them so many times, especially in the Beechwood game.

Offensively, I can't figure them out. Play-calling is all over the place and so is their tempo.  Kids are confused at crucial points each game as they are looking to the sidelines wanting a play signaled in, and it takes WAY too long. They don't have an identity.  I also believe they have played the wrong QB all year.  Fields looked really good in his first "start," but the QB rotation is never a good idea.  He throws the best ball out the 3 QBs I've seen this year, has really good footwork and mechanics.

I'm rooting for Dixie, hope they can stay positive and end this disappointing season somewhat positively.  I know nothing about Woodford County.

I do give the staff credit for their offseason program, the kids are definitely bigger, stronger, and faster than last year.

Good luck Colonels, I'm going to try make it down there for the game tomorrow.

By the way, I stumbled across this site last week, very cool!  It's much more civilized than the high school posting site across the river.

This is a great analysis. Dixie players look the part and they certainly have the talent, but the coaching and schemes seem very “gimmicky” and lack identity.

I voted for Dixie in the poll, but I think it depends on the scheme the staff enters this week with. I can see a close Dixie win if players are put in a position to succeed, or a Woodford win by 3+ scores. Despite my vote earlier this week, I’ll say 31-9 Wofo.

I know a lot of parents are pulling for Burke to use Rice more on Offense. But I am all for making sure he and Gregg both enter the playoffs healthy. He has been used this season as a decoy and as the primary, and very seldomly did anyone fall for it. I think it would be malpractice to use either one of those two any more than is absolutely necessary in this next game. That was a physical stretch of district play. He is capable sure, but this game means nothing to either team. Dixie does have a nice sized QB2 that has shown some flash. Got hurt last season early. Still getting his feet under him but is a very nice heir apparent to Gregg after next season. Dixie’s record is right about where everyone predicted them to be this season. However, nobody expected them to be this competitive. Staff has done well. Champs this year, not likely. Still a year or two away possibly, but from last season to now is night and day I’ll take it. I’ll also take Dixie in a close one on senior night 28-24.

Thanks MC44. You are correct, he said not likely. But that doesn’t answer my question.

I still pose my question to Finkle Ray, champs of what? What are they not likely to be champs of this year, but are a year or two away possibly? 5A state champs? District champs? Or champs of something else? Just an honest question. I’m curious how successful others think the team will be in coming years.

So that is literally what you took away from that post? I must have struck a nerve with you somehow there.  I was even acknowledging how somehow every year someone says this is the best freshman they have seen in years in reference to a player. Then I even said how we have been fortunate enough to see a lot of very talented freshman come up in NKY these last few years. We have had a very nice stretch of some top talent coming through NKY these last few years. Much like this year with Lorenzen, Fryman, etc.

That’s my misinterpretation then. My mistake! I agree with all about the excitement for these upcoming years in NKY.

That’s fair. Guess there should have been more discussion about Keagan Mayer and Ryker Campbell last year.
I think the point that’s being made is NKY is fortunate to have a ton of talent at multiple schools at the freshman level year in and year out of late and we should all celebrate the positivity of that situation for our area.

    100%

I feel like every year we have a person say this is the best freshman we have seen in a long time. Just like it would be easy to say two players for Cooper who currently have multiple D1 offers were two of the best freshman to come along the last two years as Cam O’Hara and Austin Alexander didn’t even play freshman football and started varsity as freshman and produced right away.

At the end of the day the NKY area has been blessed with a lot of really good young talent that has been coming up these last few years. Fryman, and Lorenzen are two more great freshman now on their way up. Definitely an exciting time with a lot of young talent in NKY.

How long are we going to hold onto Cam O’Hara and Austin Alexander not playing freshman ball at Cooper? Every week last year in the NKY freshman thread it was talked about that O’Hara was not playing freshman ball. They are both great athletes that played varsity as freshmen. We know. That has been done before.

I see this as a typical Ryle team.  High expectations, solid 6A team, nothing special, normal...

I had much higher hopes for them. Was thinking they could really make some noise this year.

Just seems like a regular old Ryle team.

Understandable. I’m interested to see how they fair in district play after some tougher non-district competition. I don’t know much about Great Crossing, but it seems like the Simon Kenton game will be a good matchup.

Ryle is definitely not what everyone hyped them up to be at the beginning of the season.

Going w the Camels in a nail biter on this one. Ryle has been very disappointing once again.

What about this year’s Ryle team makes it a disappointing season? Or “normal for them” season? Is it just the fact of being 2-4? Or is it something different? Ryle’s losses have come to 4 teams ranked pretty high in BGP rankings (two are #1 in their class) so I’m curious the reasons you feel it’s been disappointing - if it’s more than the record.

I was thinking the same thing.  As bad as things are at Boone they have an excellent coach giving it his all.  Once he leaves look out, Boone will be so bad at that point it will be hard to fathom.

The same coach that wrote a letter trying to back out of district play because even he felt they couldn’t compete? Towel has already been thrown in.

  13. This sounds like the Boone County head coach trying to find an easier route to wins. I feel for the student athletes at BCHS. Wins are needed for morale. But first he’s contemplating not playing a district schedule now it’s this. Have some pride in your players, work with them, coach them. Don’t teach them to try to find the easy way out in life.

I guess getting reps. He is a good qb. Was qb at Twenhofel last year won big school championship.

Sounds like he could be a a good multi year starter once Crone graduates. What was the Simon Kenton vs Ryle freshman score? I don’t see it posted anywhere here. I hear they both have great numbers and good freshman teams this year.

So eight of 12 semifinals were either running clocks or close to it. My, what a great system.

One of the 12 I don’t think you can blame on the system. I’d say at this point, Male will be close to or will put a running clock on any team in the state. That team is GOOD.

Is the way to fix this to not play within district the first two rounds? Change RPI? Or both?

While I’d give credit to Beechwood’s team defense having given up the least points to date of NKY teams, saying that they have the best line backing corps in NKY is a bold statement. Much less in the state. Cooper and Simon Kenton each have a player in the top 25 in the state (all classes) in tackles. Both of Ryle’s linebackers are in the top 25 in tackles in the state (all classes). I agree Beechwood has a really good defense, but I have to disagree with your claim.

Since we can’t use stats to discuss defensive positions, I guess we are left to only our opinions.

    I’ll rephrase my original post:

Multiple Northern Kentucky teams have had great defensive seasons led by their linebackers. Beechwood has a great team defense. But, there are some great linebackers in Northern Kentucky. Cooper’s Jack Lonaker as a sophomore is very impressive. He will be fun to watch the next two years. Ryle’s Belk and Savage are the most impressive duo I have seen play high school football in a long time.

…There we go. Stat-free opinion post.

Beechwood in my opinion has the best all around LB core in NKY and maybe the state.
Austin Waddell, Mitchell Berger, Michael Hatfield, as your starters. With Bomani Hughes and Avery Courtney to fill in on specific packages or when somebody needs a breather. Without these kids playing in the middle of the field, tough to say beechwood would be nearly as good on that side of the ball.
