6th Region Week 9 Review
1. Butler (16-7): The Bears battled in a pair of overtime games, defeating DuPont Manual prior to falling to Pleasure Ridge Park. Maurice Tolley and Willard Minter are combining to average over 25 points per game for Butler, which is shooting 33 percent from 3-point range. 2. Bullitt Central (14-8): The Cougars bounced back to beat rival Bullitt East in overtime following a loss to North Bullitt. Jacob Mann is averaging 15 points per game for the Bullitt Central boys' basketball team. 3. Jeffersontown (13-8): The Chargers absorbed a three-point loss to Ballard. The trio of Blake Butler (16.2 ppg), Chris Trigg (13.2 ppg) and Brandon Rayzer-Moore (12.5 ppg) continues to lead the Jeffersontown boys' basketball team. 4. 1. Butler (15-6): The Bears suffered a one-point loss to Bullitt East in the Republic Bank Louisville Invitational Tournament but still own the best record in the 6th Region. Bullitt Central (13-7): The Cougars dropped two of three games in Week 8, falling to Trinity and Western before beating Elizabethtown. Jacob Mann is averaging 16-plus points per game for the Cougars. 3. Jeffersontown (13-7): The Chargers knocked off Central prior to falling to Waggener in overtime in the semifinals of the Republic Bank Louisville Invitational Tournament. Blake Butler continues to lead Jeffersontown in scoring with a 17 points per game average. 4. DeSales (11-7): Falling in its lone game in Week 8, DeSales lost to Seneca in the opening round of the Republic Bank Louisville Invitational Tournament. 1. Butler (15-5): The Bears fell to Fern Creek but bounced back to beat Iroquois and Elizabethtown in Week 7. Butler has won six of its last eight games. 2. Bullitt Central (12-5): The Cougars won two of three games in Week 7, topping Pleasure Ridge Park and Trinity. In between two wins, Bullitt Central suffered a five-point loss to upset-minded Southern. 3. Jeffersontown (12-6): The Chargers claimed back-to-back wins over Southern and Fern Creek prior to falling to host Christian County in the Toyota of Hopkinsville Classic. Jeffersontown has won four of its last six games. 4. DeSales (11-6): Competing in the inaugural Kentucky 2A Tournament, DeSales defeated Marion County prior to falling to Christian Academy-Louisville. The Colts have lost four of their last five games. 5. Fern Creek (9-8): The Tigers knocked off Butler 61-57 before suffering a three-point loss to Jeffersontown in Week 7. Prior to falling to Jeffersontown, Fern Creek had won four straight games. 6. Pleasure Ridge Park (9-7): The Panthers split games in Week 7, beating Bullitt Central before falling to Fairdale. Pleasure Ridge Park will look to return to the win column in the opening round of the Louisville Invitational Tournament on Tuesday. 7. Valley (9-7): Earning another win in Week, Valley outlasted Western 74-71. The Vikings are on a five-game winning streak. 8. Doss (7-12): The Dragons split two games in Week 7, defeating Western before dropping a matchup to 2nd Region title contender Hopkinsville. Doss has won three of its last five games. 9. Southern (8-8): Slipping to the .500 mark, Southern dropped games to Jeffersontown and Bullitt Central. The Trojans are currently on a four-game losing skid. 10. Moore (8-7): The Mustangs slipped back into the loss column during Week 7, falling to North Bullitt. As part of a balanced Moore scoring attack, Justin Weaver is averaging a dozen points per game while three other Mustangs are netting nine or more points an outing. 11. Bullitt East (9-8): Following a loss to Waggener, Bullitt East beat Spencer County. 12. Fairdale (7-11): Spitting games, Fairdale bounced back to defeat Pleasure Ridge Park after beginning the week with a loss to Central. 13. Holy Cross (9-7): The Cougars are on a four-game winning streak after claiming a victory over Shawnee. 14. Western (5-12): The Warriors dropped games to region rivals Valley and Doss. 15. North Bullitt (5-15): The Eagles won one of three games, pulling off an upset win over Moore after dropping contests to North Oldham and Breckinridge County. 16. Iroquois (4-14): The Raiders are on a seven-game-losing skid after dropping two contests to Shawnee and Butler over a three-day period. 17. Whitefield Academy (6-11): The Wildcats split a pair of games, defeating Walden before falling to Kentucky Country Day. 18. Evangel Christian (5-11): The Eagles picked up a win, topping Frankfort Christian. 19. Beth Haven (3-10): The Bearcats dropped two more games, falling to Portland Christian and Walden.

1. Butler (13-4): The Bears defeated DeSales before falling to Oldham County in Week 6. Through 17 games, Maurice Tolley and Willard Minter are averaging double figures in scoring for 6th Region frontrunner Butler. 2. Bullitt Central (11-4): The Cougars opened 2019 with a split in Week 6, falling to Meade County before knocking off North Hardin on a neutral floor at Adair County High School as part of the Lindsey Wilson College Classic. Jacob Mann paces Bullitt Central in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 17.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. 3. Jeffersontown (10-5): Waggener prevented Jeffersontown from winning in its 2019 debut, defeating the Chargers 68-49. Blake Butler continues to lead Waggener, averaging 16.7 points per game. 4. DeSales (10-5): The Colts suffered an eight-point loss to Moore before pushing Butler for a win. Evansville Bosse, an opponent from nearby Indiana, defeated Doss 66-46 in Week 6. 10. Moore (8-6): Showing improvement in Week 6, Moore won two of three games. The Mustangs defeated DeSales and Rock Creek Academy, an opponent from neighboring Indiana. However, Waggener dealt Moore a loss. 11. Bullitt East (8-7): The Chargers slipped back into the loss column in Week 6 as host Kentucky Country Day held on to win 61-56. 12. Fairdale (6-10): Winning its lone game in Week 6, Fairdale edged Christian Academy-Louisville 75-74. 13. Holy Cross (8-7): The Cougars won back-to-back games in Week 6, beating Evangel Christian and Whitefield Academy. 14. Western (5-10): The Warriors lost to Seneca before knocking off St. Francis in Week 6. 15. Iroquois (4-12): The Raiders are on five game-losing skid after dropping contests to South Oldham and Boone County in Week 6. 16. North Bullitt (4-13): Suffering a mid-season setback, North Bullitt lost to West Jessamine in its 2019 debut. 17. Whitefield Academy (5-10): Splitting a pair of games in Week 6, Whitefield Academy defeated St. Francis before falling to Holy Cross in the 6th Region All "A" Classic. 18. Evangel Christian (4-11): The Eagles beat Beth Haven 46-39 in the opening round of the 6th Region All "A" Classic before falling to Holy Cross (Louisville). 19. Beth Haven (3-8): The Bearcats lost to Evangel Christian in their lone outing during Week 6.

6th Region Week 5 Review
1. Butler (12-3): The Bears continued to win in Week 5, notching three straight wins and claiming the Ashland Invitational Tournament (AIT) title. Butler pulled away to beat longtime rival DeSales 62-42 in the AIT title game. The Bears are slated to host the Colts for another matchup on Friday, Jan. 4. 2. Jeffersontown (10-4): The Chargers finished 2-1 in Week 5, claiming back-to-back wins in the Jean Schumm Operation Parent Classic at South Oldham High School, beating Holmes and Dixie Heights after falling to North Oldham. Jeffersontown is one of four 6th Region boys' basketball teams with 10-plus wins. 3. Bullitt Central (10-3): The Cougars finished 1-2 in the Magnolia Bank Holiday Classic at LaRue County High School. Bullitt Central beat Southwestern then dropped games to LaRue County and Muhlenberg County. Through 13 games, Jacob Mann is averaging 19.3 points per game for the Cougars. 4. Fern Creek (8-7): The Tigers reeled off three straight wins in Week 5, topping KIPP Nashville Collegiate (Tenn.), Walnut Hills (Ohio) and host Kenwood (Tenn.) in the Zaxby's Holiday Tournament. Fern Creek has won five of its last six games. 5. Pleasure Ridge Park (8-5): The Panthers won two of three games in the South Oldham High School-hosted holiday event. Pleasure Ridge Park's Week 5 stint consisted of wins over Dixie Heights and North Oldham. In another matchup, PRP suffered a five-point loss to rival Male. 6. DeSales (10-3): The Colts claimed back-to-back wins over host Ashland Blazer and Seneca before losing to familiar foe Butler in the Ashland Invitational Tournament title game. Matthew Ruckreigle and Keegan Brewer each continue to average 20 or more points per game for the DeSales boys' basketball team. 7. Valley (7-7): The Vikings excelled during the Marshall County Holiday Classic, posting wins over Apollo, Hopkins County Central and host Marshall County. Valley fared well after having dropped two of its previous three games. 8. Southern (8-6): The Trojans defeated host Eastern in overtime before dropping back-to-back games to Central and Mayfield in the City of Middletown Holiday Classic. Southern has lost four of its last five games after opening the season 7-2. 9. Doss (6-10): Following a loss to the host team, Doss registered back-to-back wins over Moore and Warren Central in the Taylor County Holiday Classic. The Dragons' 61-50 victory over Moore halted a three-game losing skid. 10. Moore (6-5): The Mustangs lost back-to-back games in Week 5, falling to John Hardin and Doss in the Taylor County Holiday Classic. Moore entered the new year on a three-game losing skid. 11. Bullitt East (8-6): The Chargers won two of three games in the Meijer Holiday Classic at Bowling Green High School, registering wins over Monroe County and Owensboro. 12. Fairdale (5-10): The Bulldogs beat Gulf Breeze (Fla.) while losing to Morristown East (Tenn.) and Harrison (Ga.) in Week 5. 13. Iroquois (4-10): Continuing to slide, the Raiders dropped three games in Week 5 - losing to Henry County, Garrard County an Western Hills. 14. Whitefield Academy (4-9): The Wildcats also continued to slide in Week 5, dropping games to Metcalfe County, host Danville and Webster County in the Hilliard Lyons Holiday Classic. 15. Western (4-8): The Warriors split two games in the Legacy Nissan Dribble Drive Challenge, edging former 14th Region champion Knott County Central before falling to host South Laurel. 16. North Bullitt (4-12): The Eagles dropped games to Tennessee opponents South Doyle and White County before defeating in-state foe Letcher County Central (14th Region) in the Sunshine Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla. 17. Holy Cross (6-7): The Cougars posted wins over Wolfe County and Rose Hill Christian while losing to Raceland in Week 5. 18. Beth Haven (3-7): Winning one of three games in the Berea Holiday Tournament, Beth Haven handled Heritage Academy prior to stumbling versus both Kentucky Country Day and Shawnee. 19. Evangel Christian (3-10): The Eagles have not played since December 22 and are scheduled to host Frankfort Christian for their next game on January 8.

6th Region Week 4 Review 1. Butler (9-3): The Bears finished runner-up in the Henry Clay Holiday Invitational, posting wins over Dunbar and Bourbon County before falling to the host team. Butler's week also included a victory over Holy Cross. The Bears are prepared to compete in the tradition-rich Ashland Invitational Tournament later in the week. The trio of Maurice Tolley, Jadon Lamb and Willard Minter lead Butler. 2. Jeffersontown (8-3): The Chargers won three of four games in Week 4, defeating Fairdale, North Bullitt and DuPont Manual while losing to Central. Blake Butler, Brandon Rayzer-Moore and Chris Trigg combine to average around 45 points per game for the Chargers. 3. Bullitt Central (9-1): After defeating Henry County, Bullitt Central rolled to three wins in the Smoky Mountain Classic in Gatlinburg, Tenn. The Cougars' run in Week 4 included a victory over two-time defending 15th Region champion Pikeville. Jacob Mann continues to average 20-plus points per game for the Cougars. 4. Fern Creek (5-7): The Tigers put together back-to-back wins, beating DuPont Manual and Moore before stumbling versus Scott County. Fern Creek is scheduled to compete in the Zaxby's Holiday Tournament in Kenwood, Tenn., later in the week. 5. Pleasure Ridge Park (6-4): The Panthers finished 1-2 in the Henry Clay Holiday Invitational, topping West Jessamine before falling to host Henry Clay and Bourbon County. Whitefield Academy (4-6): The Wildcats suffered two more losses, losing to Bullitt East and Southern. 15. Western (3-7): Splitting a pair of games, Western topped Atherton before losing to Frankfort. 16. North Bullitt (3-10): The Eagles lost games to Central, DeSales and Jeffersontown while upending Doss 57-51. 17. Holy Cross (4-6): The Cougars split games, falling to Butler while defeating Indiana opponent Rock Creek Academy. 18. Beth Haven (2-5): Notching its second win in the 2018-19 season, Beth Haven beat Kentucky School for the Deaf convincingly. 19. Jadon Lamb, Maurice Tolley, Marquis Dorsey and Willard Minter combine to lead a balanced Butler offensive attack. 2. Jeffersontown (5-2): The Chargers split games in Week 3, falling to Spencer County before defeating Western. The duo of Blake Butler and Brandon Rayzer-Moore has emerged as a tough tandem for the Jeffersontown boys' basketball team. 3. Bullitt Central (5-1): The Cougars carry a five-game winning streak into Week 4 of the 2018-19 boys' high school basketball season. In Week 3, Bullitt Central defeated both Moore and North Bullitt. Through six games, Jacob Mann is averaging 22.2 points per game for the Cougars. 4. Pleasure Ridge Park (5-2): One of the hottest teams in the 6th Region, Pleasure Ridge Park put together three straight wins in Week 3, notching victories over Valley, Bullitt East and Holy Cross (Louisville).Through seven games, Darius Osborne (14.7 ppg, 7.3 rpg) was leading Pleasure Ridge Park in both scoring and rebounding. 5. Moore (6-2): The Mustangs posted back-to-back wins after falling to Bullitt Central in Week 3. Bullitt East (2-5): The Chargers continued to struggle as part of a four-game slide in Week 3, losing to Pleasure Ridge Park and DeSales. 12. Fairdale (4-4): The Bulldogs put together back-to-back wins in Week 3 to even their overall record to 4-4 13. Iroquois (3-5): Showing some improvement in Week 3, Iroquois defeated both North Bullitt and Frederick Fraize while dropping a game to Fairdale. 14. Whitefield Academy (4-4): The Wildcats split games in Week 3, falling to Fern Creek then defeating Frankfort Christian over a four-day span. 15. Western (2-6): The Warriors dropped back-to-back games to Butler and Jeffersontown in Week 3 and are currently on a four-game losing skid. 16. North Bullitt (2-7): The Eagles continued to slide in Week 3, dropping games to Iroquois, Bullitt Central and Collins. 17. Holy Cross (3-5): The Cougars won one of two games in Week 3, knocking off Sayre before falling to 21st District rival Pleasure Ridge Park. 18. Beth Haven (1-5): Showing improvement in Week 3, Beth Haven edged Evangel Christian 55-53 to notch its first win in the 2018-19 boys' high school basketball season. 19. Evangel Christian (2-8): After opening the season 0-7, Evangel Christian entered the win column in Week 3, posting back-to-back wins over over Covington Latin and Danville Christian.

6th Region Week 1 Review 1. Butler (5-1): Preseason favorite Butler suffered an overtime loss to Moore in between notching wins over Bullitt East and Frankfort during Week 2 of the 2018-19 boys' high school basketball season. Following a two-point loss to Moore in overtime, less than 24 hours later, Butler defeated Frankfort 71-64 in the Kentucky Bank Shootout at Bourbon County High School on Saturday. The Bears are clinging to the 6th Region's top spot early. 2. Jeffersontown (4-1): The Chargers dipped into the loss column for the first time in the 2018-19 boys' high school basketball season in Week 2 but managed to defeat both Atherton and Valley. Eastern dealt Jeffersontown its first loss, defeating the Chargers 64-48. Blake Butler is averaging a double-double of 16 points and 11.2 rebounds per game for the Chargers. 3. Bullitt Central (3-1): The Cougars claimed wins over Nelson County and Louisville Collegiate in Week 2. Through four games, Jacob Mann is averaging 23.8 points for the Cougars. As a team, Bullitt Central is shooting 49 percent from the field. The Cougars are 42-of-104 (40.4 percent) from 3-point range. 4. Moore (4-1): Moore picked up a pair of wins in Week 2, rolling past Shawnee 65-46 and knocking off Butler 57-55 in overtime. Quintin Anderson and Dowan Green are averaging 13 points apiece for the much-improved Mustangs. 5. Pleasure Ridge Park (2-2): After opening the season 0-2, Pleasure Ridge Park recovered in Week 2. The Panthers notched back-to-back wins over DuPont Manual and Western. Pleasure Ridge Park's balanced offensive attack has featured multiple leaders thus far in the 2018-19 boys' high school basketball season. 6. Fern Creek (2-3): Fern Creek lost two of its three games in Week 2, continuing an up and down start in the 2018-19 boys' high school basketball season. The Tigers topped Seneca before falling to Doss in overtime and to Trinity in regulation. Fern Creek is scheduled to take the floor for six games in a busy stretch Dec. 10-18. 7. Doss (3-4): The Dragons won two of three games as part of a busy week. Doss defeated Iroquois and Fern Creek before falling to Christian County. The Dragons outlasted Fern Creek 73-71 in overtime on Friday, Dec. 7 . 8. Valley (2-4): The Vikings, following an 0-3 start, posted wins over Beth Haven and Brown before suffering an eight-point loss to Jeffersontown. Valley won convincingly over both Beth Haven and Brown. 9. Bullitt East (2-3): The Chargers pushed Butler before dropping a six-point decision; then fell to Marion County in the Clem Haskins Classic at Taylor County High School. Marion County beat Bullitt East 80-68. Zak Perdew leads Bullitt East with a 15.6 points per game scoring average. 10. Southern (3-1): The Trojans notched back-to-back wins over North Bullitt and Fairdale in Week 2. Isaiah Jackson is averaging a team-high 18.3 points per game for the Trojans. Tobias Thompson is averaging a double-double of 16 points and a team-high 12.8 rebounds per game for the Southern boys' basketball team. 11. DeSales (3-1): Following a loss to Bardstown, DeSales claimed back-to-back wins in Week 2, defeating Henry County 72-66 in the Kentucky 2A sectional tournament and topping Christian Academy-Louisville 73-61. 12. Fairdale (2-3): The Bulldogs are on a three-game slide following additional losses to Louisville Collegiate and Southern. 13. North Bullitt (2-4): The Eagles' losing streak stretched to four games following losses to Southern, Holy Cross (Louisville) and DuPont Manual. 14. Iroquois (1-4): The Raiders lost to Doss, DuPont Manual and Gallatin County but pushed for wins in each of their first two games in Week 2. 15. Whitefield Academy (3-3): The Wildcats showed improvement during the second week of the season, notching back-to-back wins over Brown and Villa Madonna following a loss to Kentucky Country Day. 16. Western (1-2): The Warriors went 1-2 in week 2, knocking off Holy Cross before dropping back-to-back games to Pleasure Ridge Park and LaRue County. 17. Holy Cross (2-4): The Cougars split a pair of games in Week 2, falling to Western before outlasting Sayre 70-66. 18. Beth Haven (0-4): The Bearcats remain winless following a lopsided 21st District loss to Valley. 19. Evangel Christian (0-5): Remaining winless, Evangel Christian suffered a lopsided loss to host Portland Christian in Week 2.

6th Region Week 1 Review
Every 6th Region boys' basketball team made its 2018-19 debut in the new season's opening week. The early 6th Region rankings follow. 1. Butler (3-0): Preseason favorite Butler opened the 2018-19 season with close single-digit wins over 6th Region rival Valley as well as Seneca and Franklin County. The Bears, under the direction of head coach Kentreal Goodin, edged Valley 63-61 in a season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 27. Butler is set to Bullitt East, Moore and Frankfort during the second week of the 2018-19 season. 2. Fern Creek (1-1): Fern Creek didn't have an ideal start to its latest hardwood campaign. Two-time defending 6th Region champion Fern Creek dropped its season opener in overtime as Ballard, a rival from the neighboring 7th Region, pulled away to win 83-76. But the Tigers bounced back, defeating Huntington (W.Va.) 87-54 on Saturday. Fern Creek is due to face Seneca, Doss and Trinity in the second week of the 2018-19 season. 3. Jeffersontown (2-0): The Chargers opened the 2018-19 boys' high school basketball season with back-to-back wins over Moore and Pleasure Ridge Park. Jeffersontown pulled away to defeat Moore 61-45 in a season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 27. In a closer contest, Jeffersontown topped Pleasure Ridge Park 54-51 on Friday night. The Chargers' week two schedule will include games versus Atherton, Eastern and Valley. 4. Valley (0-3): Don't let Valley's record fool you. The Vikings suffered single digit losses to Butler, Wagener and LaRue County during the first week of the 2018-19 season. The three losses were by less than 10 points. Host LaRue County outlasted the Vikings 64-60 in overtime in the Corky Cox Classic on Saturday. Under the guidance of head coach DeJuan Wheat, Valley has games on tap versus Beth Haven, Brown and Jeffersontown in the second week of the 2018-19 season. 5. Pleasure Ridge Park (0-2): Pleasure Ridge Park suffered a pair of single digit losses during the first week of the 2018-19 season. Region rival Jeffersontown outlasted the Panthers 54-51 in a season opener on Friday. Then, less than 24 hours later on Saturday, Seneca spoiled Pleasure Ridge Park's home opener, topping the Panthers 61-52. 6. Doss (1-3): Doss opened the 2018-19 season with a hard-fought four-point win over Southern but dropped games to Bullitt East, Moore and University Heights later in the week. Bullitt East defeated Doss handily, pulling away to beat the Dragons 68-52. In the week ahead, Doss has games scheduled versus Iroquois, Fern Creek and Christian County. 7. Bullitt Central (1-1): Splitting its first two games in the 2018-19 season, Bullitt Central dropped an opener to Taylor County but beat claimed a 20-point win over Bethlehem. Taylor County topped Bullitt Central 72-65 in a game which served as a season opener for each boys' high school basketball team. Through two games, Jacob Mann is averaging 28 points for the Cougars. 8. Moore (2-1): Following a 16-point loss to Jeffersontown in a season opener, Moore posted wins over Doss and Whitefield Academy. The Mustangs, under the direction of head coach Roy Sutton, defeated Doss 57-47. The second week of the 2018-19 season has Moore scheduled to host both Shawnee and Butler. 9. Bullitt East (2-1): The Chargers suffered a 20-point loss to Trinity in a season opener before notching back-to-back wins over Doss and Rock Creek Academy (Ind.). Bullitt East beat Rock Creek Academy 83-58 in the Love My Neighbor Classic at Spencer County. The Chargers are slated to face Butler and Marion County in the second week of the season. 10. Southern (1-1): The Trojans split games with Doss and Western during the first week of the 2018-19 season. Following a four-point loss on the road at Doss in its 2018-19 debut, Southern bounced back to beat Western 70-64 in a home opener. Through Southern's first two games, Isaiah Jackson is averaging 22 points. In the same stretch, Tobias Thompson is averaging 17 points and 14.5 rebounds. 11. DeSales (1-0): The Colts defeated visiting South Oldham 79-64 in a season opener. Following a week-long break, DeSales is scheduled to visit Bardstown. DeSales has additional games scheduled versus Henry County and Christian Academy-Louisville in the second week of the season. 12. Fairdale (2-1): The Bulldogs posted back-to-back wins over Western and Holy Cross (Louisville) before suffering a 12-point loss to much-improved Grayson County, an opponent out of the 3rd Region. Fairdale is slated to host both Louisville Collegiate and Southern during the second week of the season. 13. North Bullitt (2-1): The Eagles notched back-to-back wins over Shelby County and Bardstown before falling to Waggener on a neutral court in the Love My Neighbor Classic. North Bullitt has upcoming games scheduled versus Southern, Holy Cross (Louisville) and DuPont Manual. 14. Holy Cross (1-3): The Cougars excelled in their season opener, upending host St. Fancis 68-44. But Holy Cross dropped games to Beechwood, Fairdale and North Oldham later in the week. Following an overtime loss to Fairdale, Holy Cross suffered a 16-point loss to North Oldham at Spencer County. 15. Iroquois (1-1): The Raiders split a pair of games during the first week of the 2018-19 season. After suffering a 10-point loss to North Oldham in a season opener, Iroquois topped Atherton 48-40. The second week of the season will afford Iroquois games versus Doss, DuPont Manual and Gallatin County. The Raiders are scheduled to host DuPont Manual in a home opener on Friday (Dec. 7). 16. Whitefield Academy (1-2): The Wildcats opened their latest campaign with a win over Beth Haven. However, Whitefield Academy couldn't carry any momentum from the season opener into its next matchup. Western dropped back-to-back games to Louisville Collegiate and Moore during the first week of the 2018-19 season. 17. Western (1-2): The Warriors started the 2018-19 season with back-to-back losses to Fairdale and Southern. But Western managed to land in the win column over the weekend, defeating Kentucky Country Day 74-56 on Saturday. 18. Beth Haven (0-2): The Bearcats are 0-2 after opening the 2018-19 season with back-to-back losses to Whitefield Academy and Kentucky Country Day. Beth Haven is set to face Valley and Danville Christian this week. 19. Evangel Christian (0-4): The Eagles struggled during the first week of the 2018-19 season, dropping games to Shawnee, Lee County, Owsley County and Berea. Evangel Christian is scheduled to visit Portland Christian for its lone game in the second week of the season.

Sixth Region Preview Butler is poised to enter the 2018-19 boys' high school basketball season as the favorite in the Sixth Region. After capturing back-to-back Sixth Region boys' basketball championship, Fern Creek much replace all five of its starters from the 2017-18 season squad but remains a title contender. In addition to Butler and Fern Creek, the Sixth Region will have Pleasure Ridge Park, Doss, Jeffersontown, Valley and Bullitt Central, among a few others, in the title mix. A look at the Sixth Region follows. Sixth Region Boys' Basketball Preseason Rankings 1. Butler (27-4): Preseason favorite Butler returns leading scorer Maurice Tolley (14.5 ppg) as it looks to dethrone back-to-back champion Fern Creek. Tolley is a senior guard. Butler lost four starters to graduation but returns an overall experienced group. Junior guards Trey Minter (6.1 ppg) and Jadon Lamb (5.7 ppg) and junior forward Cameron Underwood are also back on the court for the Bears. Butler lost to Pleasure Ridge Park in the 2018 Sixth Region Boys' Basketball Tournament quarterfinals. 2. Fern Creek (27-7): Two-time reigning Sixth Region champion Fern Creek is faced with the tough task of replacing all five starters from the 2017-18 season. Senior forward Jaxon Gaddie is left to provide leadership the Tigers. Along with Gaddie, Fern Creek returns sophomores Jaden Rogers (G), Devean Franklin (F) and Darrius Washington (F). The Tigers lost to eventual state champion Covington Catholic in the quarterfinals of the 2018 Sweet 16 Boys' Basketball State Tournament. 3. Pleasure Ridge Park (21-11): After reaching the Sixth Region semifinals, Pleasure Ridge Park lost its top three scorers to graduation. Leading scorer Gerald Gray (17.3 ppg) was among the losses. But the reigning 21st District champion returns senior forward Darius Osborne (7.9 ppg, 7 rpg) and junior power forward Antwan Lockhart (5.3 ppg, 2.5 rpg). Other returning players for Pleasure Ridge Park include senior guards Cashawn Beasley, Shawn Paris and Tyler Anderson. 4. Doss (24-7): Reigning 22nd District champion Doss is expected to reload for the 2017-18 season. The Dragons lost leading scorer Stephon Franklin (13.6 ppg) to graduation. However, senior guard Jeremiah Boyd (8.4 ppg, 5.4 rpg) and senior forward Shawnkel Knight-Goff (4.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg) are key players back from the Doss boys' basketball team's previous campaign. The Dragons' 2017-18 season ended with a loss to eventual champion Fern Creek in the Sixth Region semifinals. 5. Jeffersontown (17-14): With its top three scorers back from the 2017-18 season, Jeffersontown figures to be ranked among the Sixth Region's top five teams consistently. The Chargers finished runner-up to Fern Creek in the Sixth Region last season. Senior forward Chris Trigg (12 ppg, 5.6 rpg) is due to lead the way for the Chargers. But Trigg isn't alone. Jeffersontown also returns two other senior forwards, Blake Butler (9 ppg, 5.6 rpg) and Justin Baker, along with senior guard Adrian Hatcher. 6. Valley (18-11): For Valley, replacing Sixth Region Player of the Year Curtis Lewis (25 ppg) might take some time. But Coach DeJuan Wheat returns a talented squad. Senior guard Cam Wilson (14.5 ppg) is back to lead the Vikings. Along with Wilson, Valley has welcomed back seniors Xavier Johnson (G), Tyreek Ingram (G), Rajae Johnson (G), Jerry Davis (F) and Isaac Clair (F). The Vikings fell to rival Pleasure Ridge Park in the quarterfinals of the 2018 21st District Boys' Basketball Tournament. 7. Bullitt Central (20-13): With all its starters back from the 2017-18 season, reigning 23rd District champion Bullitt Central is an experienced unit. Junior shooting guard Tyler Tatum (14.6 ppg, 2.1 rpg) and junior guards Jacob Mann (11 ppg, 3.3 rpg) and Chander Ocasio (10.4 ppg, 5.3 rpg) form a talented trio for the Cougars. Forward Trey Kearney (Sr., 8.3 ppg, 4.2 rpg) and point guard Aiden Terry (Sr., 6.2 ppg, 3.2 rpg) provide leadership for the Bullitt Central boys' basketball team. 8. Moore (7-22): Look for senior forward JJ Weaver to make a smooth transition from the gridiron to the hardwood and lead a much-improved Moore boys' basketball team in the season ahead. After an exceptional football season, Weaver (11.3 ppg, 7 rpg) returns as the Mustangs' top scorer. Moore lost leading scorer Larz Smith to graduation but in addition to Weaver returns senior guard Deiontay Branch (6.5 ppg) and junior guard Quintin Anderson (5.6 ppg). Along with its returnees, Moore added senior Hunter McCutcheon, a transfer from Male. As a sophomore during the 2016-17 season, McCutcheon averaged 13.5 points per game for the Bulldogs. 9. Bullitt East (15-16): After nearly finishing the 2017-18 season at the .500 mark, Bullitt East must replace leading scorer Luke Ezell (14.5 ppg). However, another player who averaged double figures in the scoring column last season, senior guard Thomas Wisehart (12 ppg), returns to pace Bullitt East, which lost in overtime to Jeffersontown in the 2018 24th District Boys' Basketball Tournament quarterfinals. 10. Southern (11-14): Senior guard Rickie Wright (8.7 ppg, 2.7 rpg) and junior guard Isaiah Jackson (8 ppg, 3.6 rpg) form an experienced tandem for Southern, which lost leading scorer Matthew Jones (11.9 ppg) to graduation. Along with Wright and Jackson, Southern features senior center Tobias Thompson, junior guard Kaden Crawley and sophomore guards Camden Pfeister and Devonte Wilson. 11. Holy Cross (16-13): The Cougars return one of the most experienced units in the Sixth Region. The group features a pair of players that averaged double figures in scoring during the 2017-18 season. Senior guard Cade Crawley (12.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg) and junior small forward Sam Bearden (10.2 ppg, 3.9 rpg) are the top two scorers back for the Cougars. Holy Cross also features senior guards Keeton Thornsberry (6.3 ppg, 2.9 rpg) and Jaren McDonald (6.1 ppg). 12. DeSales (14-15): Graduation took its toll on DSales as leading sorer Sam Weining (20 ppg) moved on. But a new leader is expected to pace the Colts. DeSales returns senior point guard Keegan Brewer (15.1 ppg, 2.4 rpg) as well as senior power forward Matthew Ruckreigle (9.6 ppg, 6.4 rpg). Another player expected to contribute for the Colts is Logan Lautzenheiser, 13. Fairdale (21-11): Forced to replace its top five scorers from the 2017-18 season, Fairdale will need new leaders to emerge early during the upcoming campaign. Kentucky All-Star Markelo Sullivan (23.2 ppg) leaves a scoring void for the Bulldogs. The leading contributors back for Fairdale are senior forward Jacobi Dixon, junior guard Stephen Moore and junior forward Tristan Bertrand. 14. Iroquois (20-11): After recording a 20-win season, Iroquois must place its top five scorers, three of whom averaged double figures. Keelan Kennedy was among the five graduates. Kennedy averaged 20.9 points per game for the Raiders during the 2017-18 season. Senior Antayvione Hubbard and junior Antoine Butler are the top two players back for the Raiders. 15. Whitefield Academy (14-14): Minus leading scorer Tyler Nauert (13.8 ppg), Whitefield Academy will rely more on two other proven scorers. Junior guard Trevor Nauert (11 ppg) and senior forward Will Hedgespeth (9.1 ppg) will lead the Wildcats. Whitefield Academy fell to Fern Creek in the opening round of the 2018 24th District Boys' Basketball Tournament. 16. North Bullitt (13-16): The Eagles lost leading scorer Lance Johnson (12 ppg) to graduation. A guard, Johnson provided a spark for North Bullitt throughout the 2017-18 season. But North Bullitt returns an experienced group. Senior guard Corey Girton (11.7 ppg), sophomore TJ Toney (8.8 ppg) and juniors Logan Steinmacher (6.3 ppg). Michael Richerson (5 ppg) and Branden Hill (4.3 ppg) are back for the Eagles. 17. Western (4-22): Leading scorer Neairon Finisson (9.9 ppg), a junior wing, returns to lead the Warriors. However, Western must replace three of its top four scorers. Another junior wing, Demarcus Avery, as well as junior guard Jaden Neal and senior forward Seth Sales, return for the Warriors. 18. Beth Haven (6-21): Following a six-win season, Beth Haven must replace the top two scorers from its 2017-18 team. Senior center Zach McClain (10.2 pp, 7.3 rpg) is the top player back for Bearcats. Along with McClain, junior guard Austin Whitehouse (4.3 ppg) is back for the Beth Haven boys' basketball team. 19. Evangel Christian (3-21): Replacing leading scorer Malik Shabazz (23.1 ppg) won't be easy for the Eagles. However, Evangel Christian returns junior small forward Nick Cruse (11 ppg) as well as senior guard Cameron Steffan, senior point guard Dawson Cartia, senior power forward Daniel Cano and sophomore center Colan Trudeaux. Top 10 Players 1. Cam Wilson (Valley): One of the state's most underrated boys' high school basketball players, Wilson was in the shadow of Sixth Region Player of the Year Curt Lewis throughout the 2017-18 season. Wilson averaged 14.5 points per game for the Vikings during the 2017-18 season and is ready to lead his team as a senior guard. 2. Maurice Tolley (Butler): Preseason favorite Butler is looking to live up to its billing as Tolley, a senior guard, carries the biggest load. Tolley averaged 14.5 points per game during Butler's 27-4 run last season. 3. Darius Osborne (Pleasure Ridge Park): A senior power forward, Osborne is capable of averaging a double-double for the Panthers. Osborne averaged 7.9 points and 7 rebounds per game for Pleasure Ridge Park last season. 4. Chris Trigg (Jeffersontown): Trigg, a senior forward, averaged a team-high 12 points and 5.6 rebounds per game for the Chargers as a junior. 5. Jaden Rogers (Fern Creek): The most productive player back for the two-time defending Sixth Region champion, Rogers is a versatile performer. He'll take on a large role for the Tigers during the season ahead. 6. JJ Weaver (Moore): Set to play NCAA Division I Football, Weaver isn't quite finished on the hardwood. A senior forward, Weaver (11.3 ppg, 7 rpg) is another player capable of averaging a double-double. 7. Keegan Brewer (DeSales): Among the Sixth Region's top scorers, Brewer averaged 15 points per game for the Colts last season. Brewer, a senior point guard, connected on 53-of-151 3-point field goal attempts during his junior campaign. 8. Jeremiah Boyd (Doss): A senior guard and a proven leader, Boyd is poised to reach double figures in the scoring column on a regular basis for the Dragons during the 2018-19 season. 9. Darius Washington (Fern Creek): Another key player for Sixth Region two-time reigning champion Fern Creek, Washington excelled throughout the offseason. 10. Tyler Tatum (Bullitt Central): The consistent Tatum averaged 14.6 points per game for the Cougars as a sophomore. He's heading into a promising junior season that could have him scoring over 500 points.
