  1. I’m not trying to defend Belcher, but he’s a friend of a friend and I wanted to state some facts. I know he does honor the past very well @ Pendleton (a lot of young coaches don’t do this).

At age 32 his career record to date in 4 1/2 seasons at PC is 82-64. Keep in mind that Dontaie Allen will have missed 40 games in his career. PC has won 3 of the last 4 districts. Not to mention, if Michael Antrobus didn’t transfer to Rowan County after his sophomore year his career record would be a lot better.

Belcher has done a great job of taking his teams all over the state of Kentucky and has played out-of-Region opponents.

I’m not saying he’s Billy Hicks, Chris Renner, Dale Mabrey, Mike Szabo or Allen Feldhaus but I do think he has enhanced the basketball program at Pendleton since he’s taken over in 2014. He doesn’t recruit other kids from opposing schools. He’s done this with homegrown kids. Unfortunately, the injury bug has hit his team hard for the 2018/19 season and his young, inexperienced team will struggle for the rest of the season.

  2. What he said.

It isn't hard to win games when you have the caliber of player that Dontaie Allen is, but I think a much clearer picture will be drawn over the next couple of years of exactly what kind of coach the beloved Keaton Belcher is. I know it isn't en vogue to discuss a coach in high school in terms of can they or can't they coach, but at some point, as a professional, it becomes a fair topic of conversation. I know he is a statuesque figure in Pendleton Co., so I'm sure this is going to be a super popular post (sarcasm font), but if he ultimately gets on the list of great player, subpar coach, he will join a VERY illustrious list of former star players.

Just curious, have you ever met Keaton Belcher? Ever talked to him?

  3. Would love to see Pendleton in some of the showcase events around the state. KOB, etc... I wonder if they got invited to any of the bigger events around the state?

Based on their schedule they played in two prestigious events already this season (Zip Zone Classic & Marshall County Hoop Fest) on two different sides of the state. Not to mention they played in the Lexington Catholic Tournament last year and they are scheduled to play in the Ashland Tournament this year.

  4. I have no knowledge why they declined, but I did read on this forum where they were invited and declined. I thought they were in the original pairing for the Lex Cath tourney. Does any have any input on the subject ?

I think you are getting Campbell and Pendleton mixed up.

Pendleton played in the Lexington Catholic Holiday Tournament last year.

This year Campbell County was invited to the KOB. They declined because they already committed to the post-Christmas Lexington Christian Tournament and some contract games before Christmas.

  5. I was referencing the post above stating 3 1/2 minutes left was when he was pulled. I stand corrected, it was the 5:12 mark.

It was a 90-54 game at the end of the 4th quarter though. Like I referenced, let him have all he can eat points wise for 3 quarters, but don't leave him in in that situation. At that point I question if you're simply chasing the century mark. The game was well in hand after 3 quarters.

Looks like he left with a little over 5 mins left against Augusta earlier this week. It was a 32 point game then. Just not a good look in my opinion, and it's gonna make things not very fun for what's left at PC after he is gone. Those things have a funny way of coming back around on you.

12/8 Bracken Game was 3 point game in the beginning of the 4th Quarter and Pendleton won by 18 points. Coach pulled him with 2:30 left. Allen scored 51 points but could have scored 60.

12/10 Augusta game was 81-49 with 5:30 left when Allen was pulled out. He had 45 points and could have gotten 60.

12/12 Robertson game Allen was pulled with 5:12 left in a district seeding game. He finished with 53 points and could have gotten 60.

Not to mention, tons of UK fans are coming to watch the kid play so playing 26-28 minutes a night is the opposite of showing bad sportsmanship IMO. I highly doubt that Coach Belcher would try to run up the score on anybody.

  6. Been touting RC for a while. Match-up Weds vs Pendleton could be a pretty exciting one to see. Robertson has a young roster of 5 jrs., 7 sophs., and 2 frosh. Probably best freshman in 10th (6'5" Justin Becker at 20 & 10) that shoots lights out inside/outside and from the line. They might be a year away; but, maybe not. By tourney time they could be a force. Dontae will have to put the hammer down early to overcome team depth, speed, and bulk of RC. See Pendleton in a close one. Parking might be a problem as the new gym might be overflowing.

Riherds says 6:00 tip. Is that correct?

  7. Did you see anything that Bracken could have done to have contained Dontae even a little? Usually a player of his talent has a supporting cast of at least one or two to keep putting up those kind of numbers and Pendleton doesn't have that. Do you see a way of slowing him down ? What kind of defense did Bracken attempt?

Lots of factors in this one...like One Great Scorer said in the pre-game thread Bracken had 3 practice days to prepare for Pendleton/Allen and he still got 51 points. Pendleton County was probably gassed from the road game at Clark County the night before. Pendleton had 0 days to prepare for Bracken and still won by 18.

  8. We go to sharp middle in Pendleton county. I am assisting during the 7th grade game . The 7th grade coach gets a technical but is having a relatively calm discussion with the ref. A guy gets up from the scorer’s table and approaches the two of them and tells the coach he needs to sit down. I say “do not approach him sir, the referee is talking to him.” He then Says that since he is the site manager for this game he can throw the coach out of the gym. I say “you do not have that authority, only the referee can eject him.” He then threatened to throw me out of the gym for challenging him.

    Did you win or lose?

I heard Pendleton's 7th girls team is the real deal. They are undefeated.

  9. Can Bracken contend for the 39th District? I wish the Championship was on Tuesday when Bracken and Mason plays. Because I’m afraid at the end of the season Mason County will have worked out all their problems, and Bracken is playing well right now.

True...and they could also draw each other in the first round of the 39th District Tournament.
