  1. Early momentum swing for Corbin on a 4th down stop on the opening drive + Moorman fumble on the next possession put Franklin playing from behind very early.

Corbin owned the line of scrimmage. Franklin did a nice job run blocking for Moorman. Corbin didn't blitz (not uncommon at all) and forced Mattison to win with his arm. He hurt his leg and had no ability to get the ball downfield.

The common theme in every game is Corbin's depth and physical style of play. All three teams that have faced the Hounds looked miserable in the 4th quarter. Franklin made the right move subbing their starters out despite it being a 27-7 game with about 6-7 mins remaining in the game. Their stars were taking some big shots.

  2. It's my understanding that the rule is, once the ball kicked passes the line of scrimmage the ball is dead unless touched by the other team.

I called a few officiating buddies who advised the rule describes a scrimmage kick as live if it does not clear the goal line. Could be inaccurate or confusion with the college rule as this scenario doesn't arise a bunch, but it's an interesting talking point.

  3. 35 penalties between the teams. Lots of which were dead ball personal fouls. Shew.

London Stephney is fast, makes the Bell County offense go.

I like that Corbin made the conscious decision to establish the line of scrimmage and committed to running the football tonight. Best performance by the Hounds' offensive line of the season.

  4. I've mulled it over long enough, playing this game several times in my head. I've watched Corbin practice twice this week; the game plan looks very narrowly tailored to account for Boyle's strengths.

Boyle thrives on turnovers, +36 on the season. Seems like short fields is likely a norm. Corbin is stingy with the football; has excelled at not putting their defense with their backs against the wall. Corbin maintains the line of scrimmage, does not let Boyle wear down their defense with long sustained drives, and plays turnover free....

    Corbin 28

    Boyle 17.

    Go Hounds.

  5. Snyder did not start at corner last season; Lucas Ellison and Cam Maguet played corner, DJ Murphy at safety. Snyder did see some reps last season but did not start to my recollection.

I believe I'm right but correct me if I'm wrong. Boyle County has a starting defensive back who started for Corbin as a defensive back last year. I think his name is Snyder. Just thought that was an interesting piece of information and wondered if it could have any bearing in the outcome of the game?
  6. Corbin has to establish the line of scrimmage. They get Boyle's front blocked, they win; they don't, they lose. Sizemore throws a nice deep ball and it's especially effective when Corbin can run it.

Corbin needs to control the clock and tempo. The Redhound defense is vicious when it's fresh. Noah Taylor, Ethyn Simms, and Grant Gibson have been all over the field throughout the year. Taylor looked like a man possessed at Central.

Fulfill these keys and don't turn the ball over, I like Corbin 28-21.

  7. I would think that playing Powell Co, Bell Co, Jackson Co, McCreary Central, and Knott Co would prepare Corbin for the speed Central has.

I guess some Corbin fans see this as another cupcake game since Belfry was way overrated and Corbin beat Central last year and nothing has changed but the coach at Central.

You're dead wrong and your obsessive hatred of Corbin is truly sad. I think playing defending Tennessee state champ Alcoa (and winning), Beechwood, and Mayfield have them aptly prepared for game speed. But whatever, harp on the district games, ya know...the ones Corbin doesn't voluntarily schedule nor control, and ignore the front end, which is objectively harder than any other team in SEKY. Makes sense.

  8. I’m the only one who was not surprised that Central routed Belfry. I experienced my Central game in October and I know what I saw. Unless it’s an off night for Central or Corbin has something no one has been reporting, the experience for Corbin will be like nothing they’ve seen.

Does the regular season not count at this point or what? I don't want to slight the tremendous season Central has had or the most impressive win of the season they posted, but have you guys forgotten that Corbin gave Alcoa one of their two losses? That they gave Mayfield their one loss? That they lost by 4 to an impressive Beechwood squad?

I'd be a Homer to think Central isn't favored, but to say Corbin hasn't seen anything like Central is a notion I can't get on board with.

  9. Simms will be a huge loss. He is the heart of the defense and special teams, having scored TD's by blocking punts, returning an INT, by fumble recovery and returning kicks.

Will Mitchell be back this week? If both he and Simms are out, things could get interesting. Could we possibly see Sizemore or Estep make their defensive debuts?

Mitchell is out with a nasty infection; he was in isolation at Baptist per a family member. Gosselin can play free safety in lieu of Mitchell, he had a great game last week there.

As for Simms, the easiest move may be to move Money back to the outside linebacker and bump another linemen at d end.

  10. Interesting matchup...Powell is obviously playing much better than a 4 loss team (0-4 start), reeling off 8 straight with a good win over Casey.

Powell effectively shut down Casey's passing offense, but Corbin has a lot of nice offensive balance. Ran the ball particularly well last night vs Bell vs a stacked box when necessary. Mixed in some nice play action and double move routes to keep the safeties out of the running Lanes.

Ordinarily, I would say Corbin has a huge advantage due to their defense...but Ethyn Sims has allegedly been suspended via ejection last night. Definitely Corbin's best defensive player. Will force some new faces on the field. Certainly going to be a hostile atmosphere with a Powell team hungry for a region championship.
