  1. I would say that Pike County would be hard to handle, there is some good football being played there, plus adding in athletes from schools that have had lesser success

Perry County would be tough too combining PCC and Hazard

Greenup County would have some success as well (Raceland, Russell and Greenup Co.) something like 180 kids playing football in a relatively low population county

I dont know that Boyd Co would be much better than Ashland already is tho

  2. I saw their freshmen last year and nobody really stood out to me in that class. I'm not familiar with their current freshmen or middle school classes. Do they drop off that much after the current juniors?

GC has several Sophomores that contribute on Friday nights, 2 Sophomores started against Russell. The Freshman class is small but has talent and the 8th grade class behind them is very talented. GC is building a legitimate PROGRAM under Grizzle and the "window" isn't near to closing on wins

  3. Hearing that the Rams picked up a QB from Ironton and he looks to be the starter. My sources tell me that its his third stop in as many years. He should pair nicely with the OL from Ironton and the two former Boyd Co starters on the roster. Fairview 2.0 looks to be hard to handle in NEKy this coming fall

  4. Eli Sammons- Greenup. 6'5 200. 2432yds and 27tds last season as a sophomore. Has put on alot of size and strength this off season. Also has most of his skill players back this year.

I also Agree Sammons is in the discussion for top 5. He was invited to Elite 11 this year as a Junior to be, holds several school records for passing and has a burning desire to be an elite QB (not that the aforementioned QBs dont have that desire).Plus elite size and does very well academically. Most on here don't know the name because hes not slinging it at Private School or in a "Big Market"

  5. Other names to be on the lookout for with this Greenup Team is Austin Evans. He will be a Jr this season after starting last season at WR. Sammons has been throwing to Evans for a long time and they have alot of chemistry and Jacob Roe, (Jr. OT) who will be in his 3rd year starting. A real special talent and physical presence at 6'7" 310lbs with good feet and a bit of a nasty streak

  6. Greenup County returns alot of experience on both sides of the ball including all starting skill players from last years squad. 3/5 starting lineman and 7 starters on defense. This team will be exciting to watch offensively with school record setting receiver Patrick Kelly catching passes from Jr Eli Sammons. Dual Threat Running back Dalton Halstead will be featured in the back field. The Defense will be anchored by Senior Brecken Thomas at middle LB, a three year starter. The cast on defense will feature returning starters Kieth Sparks (Sr, DE), Alex Wellman (Sr, C), Gary Adkins (Sr, DT) and Tanner Euton (Jr, LB)

  7. I like the new district but I would like to see more schools than 4. Greenup, Russell and Ashland are going to be top 10 if not top 5 in 3A most years. This makes Scheduling 7 non-district games tough. Local teams may not want to add tough games to their schedules or potential playoff matchups to their schedule. This could mean some long travel times and tough in season opponents for Musketeers, Devils and Tomcats

  8. In my opinion the more tackles your safety has the worse your defense as a whole is.

Really depends on the Defensive scheme that your team runs? Safeties are not longer 15 yard deep last line of defense type guys. In alot of schemes they are asked to be a player for stretch/toss,quick screen game and have option responsibilities. In todays game Safeties have to be very dynamic against the run and the pass. Blanton from JC (2016) comes to mind as the best example of this

  9. I prefer having a week 10 bye week, i think that it helps get kids that may be banged up get healthy for a playoff run. It also gives the coaching staff a chance to go scout their first round opponent, which i feel is important because you get a good feel of a teams speed, how hard a team plays, tempo ect.....things that are tough on film. The extra week also means you get two weeks to prepare/install the game plan for the first round, something that can be the difference for a team going on the road in a 2 seed vs 3 seed matchup

  10. Im going with some local (to me) 1A schools that i feel were good enough to win state championship but fell short.

2003 Fairview Eagles- Went 11-1 with a second round home loss to runner-up Beechwood. The 2003 Eagles team was loaded with talent and featured an eventual NFL running back (Chris Jennings).

2006 Raceland Rams-Went 11-2 losing to eventual champions NCC in the third round at home. Raceland Dominated the First half of that game but got worn down in the second. the 2006 Rams had an explosive offense and a punishing defense.

  11. First off, I understand that officials are not perfect and no one can make every call. That being said officials should call the game without bias and with player safety at the forefront. Towards the end of a local game. With the score 43-7 the winning team substituted their Varsity QB for their Freshman QB. During the small amount of action the Freshman he took what looked to be a very late hit on a screen pass directly in front of the white hat official. No call was given. Upon explanation the official explained that "Had it been the starter he would have called it" and something about it being hard to penalize a team on the losing end of a running clock. I find that inexcusable. The score should not dictate penalties and age nor status of a player should not dictate calls. Luckily the young man was not hurt but the actions/explanations of the official in question shows he DOES NOT have player safety at the forefront of this responsibilities and he feels he should have the power to affect a game when he so chooses. these are two qualities that any referee should not posses. Am i wrong to be upset by this or do you feel this is acceptable. Thoughts? Opinions?
