  1. I've posted the details in various places! :)

Basically Highlands kicked off and sent it all the way down field. St. X wasted no time. Ball got to midfielder, who played a great ball down left wing to an All State Player.

All State Player A finds 2018 State Offensive Player of the Year in the goalmouth UNMARKED for an easy put away.

Not sure what Highlands was thinking. Dumb idea combined with blown assignments against a really good team.

Kinda sad it was the deciding goal, but I am sure Hopkinsville feels their pain.

Some really good teams got beat on some really bad goals.

    Why?

I wasn't at the game but the St X goal sounds like a good one to me. Build up from the back, through the midfield and then a nice finish. And then apparently St X played good defense and won the game, fair result well earned victory.

  2. ]Was the goalie noticeably off the line[/b]? Usually they give you the first foot off the line.

There is no argument no one in the stadium had a better view then the AR. He is about 8-10 yards away straddling the goal line, perfect position. He has only two responsibilities during a PK attempt. First to see if the goalie moves forward before the ball is struck, second to see if the complete ball crosses the goal line. Not the most difficult responsibilities, especially if you have any level of experience. Given his position and limited responsibilities, I would lean towards saying he got the call correct.

  3. Not saying Trinity is or is not deserving, no real way of knowing for certain until the top 50, top 100 whatever or so teams start playing one another or at least play common opponents. That is the problem with a national rank of HS teams in any sport if the teams never play each other. How do you know how a HS team from KY, OH, IN, (name the state) ranks against a HS team from CA, TX, NY, FL, (name the state) etc, etc if they never play each other nor play common opponents?

  4. Birds take their first “L” of the season. It was the second game in a row on a tight grass field. After going down a goal on a corner 3 minutes in, Highlands started moving the ball a lot better towards the end of the first half and again midway through the 2nd.

The boys are as athletic or more athletic than every team that they play. They have struggled breaking down teams through possession, especially on smaller fields. Today there was improvement there which was a big positive. Driving 2 hours to play on of the top teams in Indiana and being a saved penalty away from a tie, not too bad.

Let me say that the new offsides interpretation is the DUMBEST rule in history.

I could not agree more. I'm not sure to what level of play in the US this has gone. This new offsides interpretation is not being used in the top leagues in Europe, so it is obviously not being mandated by FIFA. I have yet to hear or witness myself one good thing about this new interpretation. The argument "well they are not involved until they touch the ball" or "they have not committed offsides until they touch the ball" only proves one lack of understanding of the game. The only rule I've seen that benefits the team breaking the rule... only in the US?

  5. The landscape of the 9th region will be interesting with this hire. As much as ppl think that this was a good hire for NDA, there are alot more that goes into coaching and everything that glitters aint gold. I know that there will be some girls that were suppose to go to NDA that will be looking for another school because of this hire.

NDA is certainly not right for everyone as no school is. But for the girl that does want to excel academically, be the best prepared for college academics as possible and is willing to be pushed and work hard, there is not a better school in NKY IMO. I would recommend any family thinking long and hard before going to another school simply over a coaching change.

  6. Yes i am dead serious. I certainly understand why they do as I have been around basketball long enough, but I dont like it. I also understand that it has worked for them. (And am extremely happy it did) However, looking at yesterday for example.

    1) They were able to trap our PG a few times to force turnovers, but SC was unable to capitalize. If they had turned those into points it could have been a different game.

    2) If SC was able to exchange 3's for 2 FT attempts, it could have been a different game. The lead was only 9 pts if I remember to start the fourth, so it would not take many of these 2 for 3 exchanges to get it close.

    3) We only had IMO two guys who if I was coach would be handling the ball in this situation. One of which got in trouble several times and had to either call time out or he turned it over. SC was very aggressive in their trapping defense and if they had played a bit more under control the outcome could have been different. IMO SC paniced way too early.

Again, I understand why the Colonels did what they did and of course the good thing is they came out on top once again!

If SC had scored more points then CCH it would have been a different outcome.

  7. All of those types are in it for the wrong reason. With them it's not about the kids, it's about their own kids. Find a coach with a proven track record who has no attachment to any of the players before taking over.

Do you have proof, "in it for the wrong reason. With them it's not about the kids, it's about their own kids."?

I would encourage you to ask his other players what they thought of their experience playing for him, do they share your "its not about the kids (them)" comment?

And who's to know he took the HC job and HC hired him knowing when his second son graduated he would step down. I don't know if this was discussed but could see this conversation having gone down during the interview process.

  8. Why wasnt Jake Walters more involved in this game?

Did Cooper take him it out it?

Did CCH not get him the ball enough?

I would think that a 7 footer would be a difference maker especially when Cooper has no one over 6-4.

Just a guess, (not making any excuses) was Walter sick? He came out for pregame late and after a few minutes of warming up went over and sat on the bench as his teammates continued their pregame warm up. It also appeared he was taken out a few times for defensive reasons, matchup issues on man defense.

Second the many comments about these two teams, a joy to watch them compete. The respect each team has for one another from the coaching staff down to each player is tremendous. Punk ball has no place any level, especially at the HS level. Hats off to both programs for playing the game the right way!

  9. While you're probably correct, if you consider CovCath/Cooper the real deal championship game then if they meet in the Semi's attend that game and consider that to be the championship game....Problem solved...

....sorta... unless the real championship game turns into a surprise, and then you'll kick yourself for not attending.

Nothing is for certain... See 2010 championship game for a bit of perspective.

That's why they play the game.

So many were certain in 2016 that the 9th belonged to CovCath, and then NewCath won.

So many were certain the in 2017 that the 9th belonged to CovCath, and then Cooper won.

    You really just never know...

I don't know anyone that thought the 9th belonged to CCH in 2017. These two teams went into that regional final as equal opponents.

  10. As a fan of good high school ball these rankings depress me. If the #4 team loses by 30 to Scott and couldn’t beat Cooper without Kunkel and Runion then the region is in bad shape.

My take, #1 and #2 are having a hard time finding competitive games inside the region which results in boring games for the fans that involve these two teams. The question I have, is it just one of those years where the top two teams are just that much better then the rest or is the 9th region #3 through #19 down?

I did not take this as "who else should be ranked 4?

  11. Apologize for temporarily kidnapping the thread' date=' but after watching the Champions League this week, wow the amount of really good young players making an impact on their teams in Europe is unbelievable. As an example, Bayer Leverkusen average age for their starting lineup on Tuesday was 23 yrs old. Hate to say it but the US on the mens side appear to be falling even further behind in developing world class players. May be a long stretch of 3 and done WC results...if we even qualify.[/quote']

I don’t buy it. There are more and more players getting into line ups inEurope and Mexico. The 22-26 year group was bad, but the talent behind them is prettydarn bright compared to what we have had.

First off, I am a huge supporter of US Soccer and only wish us well in all competitions. But as I wrote in post #25, IMO the US is falling way behind in developing young players. I did a quick search of some of the top international players, 24 years old and younger playing mostly in Europe and some of the top US players 24 years old and younger playing today. Below is just a short list, I am certain I missed some good players on both list. From looking at this list it is very very clear just how far behind we are, scary.

  12. Minnis spent this summer training with the Columbus Crew. Last year, he captained an American touring team in Holland. Made All-Camp at Wake Forest and Duke. Had upward of 10 good D-I offers (including Clemson, Wake and Old Dominion). He was also the state CLUB player of the year in 2016.

He is NOT just a stat padder.

Did he train with the actual MLS Columbus Crew squad or one of their many academy teams?

  13. Oh yea the weather this time of year in this area of the country. Just one more reason for KY to adopt a field standard/plastic only fields for post season.

HS athletics are an extension of the classroom. School buildings must be built and brought to to certain standards, such as ADA requirements, smoke detectors/alarms, etc, etc. Many of which are in place for student and staff safety, why not have the same requirements for all aspects of the athletic venues including the actual playing surface?

  14. Teams playing most of their games on plastic fields tend to struggle on poor quality natural grass fields. Maybe some day KY will do as OH does, all post season games must be played on the plastic stuff, or at least have a quality standard and maximum length the grass can be for a natural grass field to be used in the post season.

  15. CCH gets 2 goals in the first half, another in the second and then empty the bench midway through to cruise to the win. Dixie plays hard to the end, congrats to them on a good season.

The doubleheader is a huge success. Both NDA and CCH send their supporters home happy, and it attracts one of the larger crowds you will see at a local HS soccer game. Great atmosphere, great venue, great night for all of the players to have the opportunity to play in front of that size crowd!
